Abstract

1,085,208. Removing incrustations from metallurgical converters. VEREINIGTE OSTERBEICHISCHE EISEN UND STAHLWERKE A.G. Dot. 27, 1964 [Oct. 28, 1963], No. 43824/64. Heading F4B. Apparatus for removing skulls from the mouth of a tiltable converter comprises a pusher head 7 pivoted at 9 to the main beam 10 of the support structure and urged by an hydraulic cylinder 11 into the arcuate path of the converter during tilting, the cylinder being fed by a rotary pump 11. A pressure limiting valve controls the pressure exerted by the head 7 to a figure which will not damage the converter drive. As shown by the dotted lines, an annular section is cut out of the skull by oxygen lances to weaken it.
