Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:1060069/C2/1> wherein R1 is an alkyl group containing at most 4 carbons, R2 is hydrogen or an alkyl group containing at most 2 carbons and R3 is hydrogen or an alkyl group containing at most 2 carbons, in the form of the racemic mixture, and physiologically acceptable salts thereof. They may be obtained from a ketone of the formula <FORM:1060069/C2/2> wherein X is a halogen atom, by converting the carbonyl group of the ketone into a -CHOH group by reduction and converting the halogen atom into an isopropylamino group by amination with isopropylamine and, if a salt is required, forming an acid addition salt in which the anion is physiologically acceptable with the resulting isopropylamino group. The reduction step may either precede or follow the amination step. The compounds have pharmaceutical properties and may be administered by injection or orally, generally in the form of compositions comprising the active substance in association with a pharmaceutical carrier. The compounds are stated to be blocking agents for b -receptors.
