Abstract

Lubricants comprise one or more of the following novel esters, optionally together with another ester oil: di-octyl isobutenyl-succinate, di-octyl iso-octenyl-succinate, and a mixed n-hexyl, n-octyl iso-octenyl-succinate. The other oils include esters of trihydric alcohols with aliphatic mono-carboxylic acids, esters of dibasic acids with monohydric alcohols, and dialkyl alkenyl succinates other than the novel esters mentioned above. missing page 110ALSO:The invention comprises di-octyl isobutenylsuccinate, di-octyl iso-octenylsuccinate, and mixed n-hexyl, n-octyl iso-octenylsuccinate which are prepared by reacting the appropriate alcohol with the substituted succinic anhydride, optionally in the presence of an acidic catalysts, e.g. H2SO4.
