Se divulgan métodos para mejorar el crecimiento de las plantas, que comprenden a) tratar semillas de planta o la planta que germina a partir de la semilla con una cantidad efectiva de al menos dos lipo-quito-oligosacárido, en donde, tras su cosecha, la planta exhibe al menos uno de mayor rendimiento de la planta medido en términos de bushels/acres, mayor número de raíces, mayor longitud de raíces, mayor masa de raíces, mayor volumen de raíces y mayor área foliar, en comparación con plantas no tratadas o plantas cosechadas a partir de semillas no tratadas.
