Abstract

Un polímero basado en isocianato espumado que tiene una estructura celular y que contiene un material superabsorbente, siendo el polímero capaz de: (i)absorber cuando menos aproximadamente 20 veces su peso de un fluido acuoso mantenido a una temperatura de aproximadamente 20°C a aproximadamente 25°C e(ii) retener cuando menos aproximadamente 20 veces su peso del fluido acuoso absorbido que se enlaza con el material superabsorbente. Dicho materialsuperabsorbente es un polímero sintéticotal como un polímero celulósico o un polímero de cuando menos uno de un monómero acrílico y un monómero de vinilo,aunque también pueden utilizarse copolímeros de ácido maleico e isobutileno (típicamente en forma de fibra) y poliéteres. Un proceso para producir unpolímero basado en isocianato espumado, el cual comprende los pasos de: proporcionar una mezcla sustancialmente uniforme que comprende un isocianato,un compuesto que contiene hidrógeno activo, y un material superabsorbente,siendo el material superabsorbente capaz de absorber cuando menosaproximadamente 20 veces su peso de un fluido acuoso mantenido a una temperatura en la escala de aproximadamente 20°C a aproximadamente 25°C,agregar a la mezcla sustancialmente uniforme un agente de soplado acuoso y un catalizador para formar una mezcla de reacción, y expandir la mezcla dereacción para producir el polímero basado en isocianato espumado, en donde el compuesto que contiene hidrógeno activo comprende de aproximadamente el 10 porciento al 100 por ciento en peso de un compuesto que contiene hidrógeno activo hidrofílico y del 0 a aproximadamente el 90 por ciento en peso de un compuestoque contiene hidrógeno activo no hidrofílico.
