Abstract

Se describen en este documento los métodos para modificar el contenido de nitrosamina específica de tabaco de un material de tabaco. Un método ejemplar comprende poner en contacto un material de tabaco con una composición que comprende sal, azúcar, enzima, bacterias de ácido láctico, levadura o una combinación de los mismos para reducir el contenido bacteriano total; curando el material de tabaco; y fermentar el material de tabaco en presencia de uno o más microorganismos. El método puede proporcionar un material de tabaco fermentado que tiene un contenido de nitrosamina específica del tabaco que se reduce con relación a un material de tabaco fermentado que no ha sido sometido a las etapas del método descrito. En ciertas modalidades, el contenido de nitrosamina específica del tabaco del material de tabaco fermentado no es más que el del material de tabaco curado. También se proporcionan productos que contienen tabaco que incluyen tales materiales de tabaco tratados.
