Abstract
Un catalizador sólido (es decir heterogéneo) útil para preparar un glicol de alquileno del óxido de alquileno correspondiente así como un proceso para la hidratación catalítica de un óxido de alquileno a un glicol de alquileno utilizando un tal catalizador, son proporcionados. El catalizador de la presente invención es basado en una resina de intercambio de ión que incluye un poliestireno entrelazado con desde aproximadamente 2 a aproximadamente 10 % de peso de divinil benceno. La resina de intercambio de ión posteriormente incluye grupos de amonio cuaternario o grupos de fosfonio cuaternario. El proceso incluye reaccionar agua y un óxido de alquileno en al menos un reactor bajo condiciones para formar un glicol de alquileno en donde al menos un reactor incluye un catalizador basado en una resina de intercambio de ión que incluye poliestireno entrelazado con desde aproximadamente 2 hasta aproximadamente 10 % por peso de divinal benceno.
