The direction is fantastic and full of symbolism. They focus on the train track from the beginning of the anime. However, as Shin's mind was completely disturbed and he had no hope. The track was always represented at the end with a block. Then we have Lena on top of the tracks walking towards the horizon, in search of her goal.

And in the end we see the Rail lead to the meeting of the two, showing that now Shin is free to walk his own path. In episode 22, we have Lena on one side being lit by the sun, and Shin in the shadow, symbolizing light and dark. When she approaches, the light takes over everything. Symbolizing that she is the light that brought him out of the darkness. I even put this in the opening I made of 86 in Portuguese.
