And yeah, thank you as well. We can agree to disagree. Hope you enjoy the movie!
We can agree to disagree on that, but for what it's worth I would say at the very least, they did Akagi and Santa's Puberty Syndrome's really well. Even Sara's up to some point. There is a bit more lore left that will be revealed in the final movie.
I believe the marks was herself from the other universe giving her a message. Maybe it's because I've read the other 2 LNs, but it does make a lot more sense later. I'm not sure if the anime explained the messages properly tho cause I can't remember. But it makes sense to me, they're exchanging messages. Like I said, the movie should explain some of it, so I don't wanna go into too much detail...
I wouldn't say it's been put on hold. It just has reached it's peak. It's fully developed and can't get any better, they are practically married atp. But there was one scene from the LN they cut that they shouldn't have and that was Mai showing off the ring Sakuta gave her in an interview. This season was mostly about Sakuta trying to save Mai from an impending death. As for it being the main selling point of S1, i don't exactly disagree agree. While I think it was the main selling point of arc 1, and post that, it was still important, but other aspects were given more focus.
As for Puberty Syndrome, sure it needs to be logical to its own continuity, and it should be in line with what has been established. But, that doesn't mean it cannot establish new things without contradicting the past. Every arc in Ao Buta, minus one, has focused on a different supernatural occurrence. I don't think there was anything in S2 that contradicted S1 in that regard. But there is one common theme and that is insecurity.
No that wasn't really my point with bringing up Kaede. Yes I do agree that Kaede's introduction and character development are better, but my point was that you didn't know about these characters before they were introduced in that season either. Like you met Koga, Futaba, Mai, Nodoka and Kaede all in that season, and got to know more about them throughout the season. It's the same with Santa, Akagi and Sara in S2. Zukki was in s1 as well, so she's a bit different. That's why it felt like you had given up on the new cast, without giving them a chance.
It sounds ridiculous, but it is completely realistic. Also it wasn't just that one event. As it was explained in her arc, she was out of work, and Mai coming in completely overshadowed her, stole everyone's attention and crushed her confidence. Idk how you can call that random and meaningless. Episode 11 and 13 explained it perfectly imo.
Edit: I realize you were referring to Zukki not Santa. I will say, it's still very realistic for teenagers to be that way. I do think that's it's the least fleshed out arc though. But she wasn't really a normal teenager either. She was always on the spectrum, and going to university was a big change for her, which caused all that.
I think your points are very weak, to be honest, and I will respond with a few points.
First, when it comes to romance, Season 1 and Season 2 are extremely different. The romance has clearly been put on hold. By romance, I mean the development and focus on the relationship between Sakuta and Mai moving forward, which was very much present in Season 1. In fact, it was the main selling point of that season, and if you disagree, I think you need to maybe rewatch season 1 or find a recap that has been made for the first season.
With regard to Puberty Syndrome, what I mean by it being illogical is its continuity within the universe. Obviously, Puberty Syndrome cannot be explained scientifically, but any story with a supernatural element still needs to flesh it out, and each arc needs to be explained well in line with what has already been established.
Kaede’s introduction and character development were handled much better, and her arc was set up from the beginning of Season 1 all the way to the third movie. She has always been there during Sakuta’s ups and downs, many of which stemmed from the trauma he experienced because of her puberty syndrome. Comparing Kaede’s development to that of any character introduced in Season 2 is, in my opinion, completely ridiculous.
Lastly, that one random, meaningless event causing her to feel that way for such a long time is ridiculous to me. It just comes across as plain stupid and weak writing that didn’t convince me.
For starters, the romance has been on the backburner since the first arc of s1. It's nothing new to s2. Post arc 1 of S1, it has been consistent with the way it's been in s2.
Puberty syndrome had always been a supernatural syndrome, so looking for logic in it, isn't really fruitful.
As for the characters, I really don't get this criticism, because, even in S1, you were meeting all the characters for the first time. You didn't have any reason to care for them either, but you got to care for them through the season. It sounds like you alr gave up on them before that. I don't wanna say anything more in case of spoilers, but the Mini-skirt Santa had a similar journey as Kaede, being a constant presence throughout the season.
Also you say that the entire conflict comes from one random meaningless event, but that's what people are like irl. One thing can set them off and send them into a spiral. I do agree that overall S1 was better, but S2 more than lives up to it.
I also agree with the romance being sidelined, that was honestly one of my biggest complaints I had with Season 2. For some reason, the anime wanted to be that gateway to introduce otaku culture when it had no necessary reason to do that, it's like watching Dr. Stone without realizing what makes Dr. Stone somewhat fun to watch (because the main character is already a walking genius, and it already established that from the start, so it's acceptable).
