well i know those websites but i never actually use them, i dont stream, i just download and torrent all the time, i also always watch japanese dub with subtitles, so i wouldnt know anything about the western VAs, if an anime is released without japanese dub then i will wait until it does otherwise im not going to watch it, i just value original dub above all, in my early days of watching anime i watch with indonesian subtitles so i remember some meanings and words so even if i watch anime with bad english subtitle today i would still know the original context based on the japanese audio

well MAL was created in 2004 actually, theres also AniDB which was created in 2001/2002, baka-updates for anime also created in 2002 but already shutdown now, but yeah my point is these websites already exist in early 2000s, but theyre only popular among internet dwellers at the time, i think you missed them because you watch anime on tv instead of on internet, if you started watching on internet in early 2000s you definitely would stumble on these websites much earlier than 2009

idk those tv channels lol, i heard of cartoon network, adult swim, toonami but i never watch them, we have different channels here, had some western cartoon like chalkzone, fairy odd parents, jimmy neutron, dora the explorer, spongebob, etc, but theyre aired in local tv station and dubbed in indonesian, as for anime we have them in multiple local channels as well, but there is also this one called spacetoon, oh but in 2000 i was just obsessed with teletubbies lol, i didnt start watching anime until 2007-ish on tv then in 2012 i started watching seasonals from download sites

i called you veteran not only because you joined in 2009, but because of the amount of anime you watched. i joined in 2013 but my completed anime is still under 1k

and yes i know about crunchyroll started as illegal streaming site at first, if im not mistaken fakku also started being illegal doujin site but now also become legal site
