These stories feature a main character who is isekai'd into one of their favorite (or perhaps least favorite) stories. Once there, they will do whatever it takes to protect their "oshi" (推し, often translated as "bias"). Sometimes, their bias is an NPC; other times, they adore the stalking horse of a second male lead. For the sake of this stack, the main characters will typically be female.

Of note, having a bias for a character does not necessarily imply romantic attraction.

What is Otome Isekai?
“The short answer is that Otome isekai is a sub-genre of Isekai where the main characters are in some way transported to another world that resembles an otome game.” - r/Otomeisekai

Of course, there’s more than that. Otome Isekai (OI) tend to revolve around some variation of: “Female Leading character (FL) dying and reincarnating inside a romantic game or novel, usually as Villainess or side character, and now she must do whatever the plot demands this time to survive, usually helping or being helped by the Male Lead (ML), who doubles as the romantic interest.

It’s a genre that has a lot of attention nowadays, so I made this list for those wanting to see what the hype is about without having to read the lesser good ones (since this genre has A LOT of entries, a lot of them being at best boring and at worst actually problematic or screwed up *cough cough On the Emperor’s lap cough cough* ).

I tried my best to include some variation because at the end of the day this genre is very trope-y and you’ll probably start to guess a lot of what happens in any OI if you get caught up with like,, two of these.

I also included the genres (note, ALL of these have Rofan - Romance Fantasy in them because that’s like,, the point of this genre) and notes so you can pick what you’re interested in.

If you do get into this genre and now want to find memes and stuff about this, I recommend r/OtomeIsekai (I swear I’m not a mod there or anything) fun place and good to be able to rant or gush about any OI.)

As for where to read these? Well, you could purchase them from sites like Tapas, read them mostly for free if you're lucky on Webtoon, or use places like Batto or Mangapill if that’s not an option for you.

FL is a highly respected knight who decides to find a partner for a political marriage after her father passes away as the whereabouts of her little brother, the next heir to the family, are still unknown.
She meets the ML, a legendary war hero known for being merciless and possessing monstrous power, at a lake she often frequented in her childhood. One thing leads to another, and they end up getting married but the reason behind it slowly changes as the story progresses.

Empress Cesia Wears Knickerbockers (8/10) (2025/1/27 - 2025/1/28):
FL recalls her past life as a clothing designer after hitting her head and vows to revolutionize the outdated clothing dilemma in the medieval country she now inhabits.
She dresses up as a man to work as a designer and is scouted by the ML, the empress's brother, who is tasked to find someone who could make comfortable clothes for the empress.

The long-haired character must be the main love interest. Any hair color is okay. This is limited to pseudo-European settings since long-haired MLs are fairly common in Korea/China/Japan-inspired pseudo-historical series. As such, murim is also excluded.

The character should have long hair for the majority (>50%) of the series, so having it cut for a short time is okay. However, if they cut it at the beginning and it remains short, then they won't be included.

Of course, I will not be including any series where the love interest is a spoiler. The male lead should be obvious based on promotional artwork/covers/synopsis. Also, if there are multiple love interests, but all of them have long hair, then that also gets a pass.
