What definitely makes manga great would be that it goes over a broad range of themes/topics. Manga isn't afraid of addressing taboo topics, nor does it avoid concepts that most other entertainment mediums WOULDN'T DARE to touch. They also provide an imaginative exploration of how the Japanese perceive these topics. We rarely get cultural perspectives on certain topics.

Actual kino. None of that boring mainstream bullshit for pseudointellectuals. Manga that you pick up, read, and think "that was fucking awesome/cute/silly/depressing".

(This title is obviously a joke enjoy what you enjoy this shit is just stuff that's stuck with me the hardest!)

I love reading tragic and twisted romance. So I made this stack for myself and also for the people who enjoy reading them. Hope you'll be able to find something new through this stack ^^

A great manga has the ability to drag the readers into the story and make them experience what the characters are going through. Intense battle sequences will make you hold your breath in excitement while heartbreaking scenes will make you bawl your eyes out.

But there are times when you don't want to feel such deep emotions from manga. Sometimes you just want to sit back, relax, and enjoy the story. In that case, a wholesome manga that can make you smile throughout the story is the one you should read, and these are some selections of manga that can do just that.

All of these stories center around a main character with depression.

It is revealed or majorly hinted that they have depression within the first few chapters.

Important note: Not all of these focus specifically on depression, but it is almost always a major component of the main character's development.

Only manga with kanojo in the title...(I cheated on some of them)

Manga about protagonists that's lives changed for the better due to a change in how they see the world, themselves and those around them, though there are some that must go through hardships before they are able to change.

The change in these protagonists aren't instant and some of the included protagonists take a long time to change or just have a more natural gradual change that is more apparent once you have gotten further into the story.

Stuff that made me feel weird

Slice of life manga involving things like death, suicide, murder, depression, anxiety, paranoia, racism, survival, dark secrets(ex.cloning), loss/decline in/of civilisation etc.

I've included the fable and Kizudarake no Jinsei which aren't labelled as slice of life but they lie somewhere between gritty crime drama and a slice of life story.

The characters listed in this aren't necessarily confirmed to be autistic but can be very autistic coded

I'm not a psychologist so I am not able to give characters an accurate diagnosis so these are all just coming from my own experience as an autistic person

Feel free to recommend series with possibly autistic characters!
