Synopsis

There is one cat at the local pet shop that has been waiting a long time for someone to bring him home. He has reached adulthood alone in his cage, avoided by potential owners for petty reasons like not being cute enough or being snotty. His fortune changes one day when an elderly gentleman named Fuyuki Kanda comes into the store and chooses to take him home. As a widower left behind by his grown-up children, Kanda seeks a feline companion to alleviate his solitude.

At times humorous and others heartwarming, Ojisama to Neko follows Kanda and the newly named Fukumaru as they experience the joys of living together and learning about each other.

BackgroundOjisama to Neko ranked fifth in the 2019 Kono Manga ga Sugoi! for the Female Readers division.

The series has been published in English as A Man & His Cat by Square Enix Manga since February 11, 2020. It has also been released in Polish by Waneko since September 20, 2021.

The manga was adapted into a Japanese live-action TV series that aired from January 7, 2021, to March 25, 2021. The cats in the show were portrayed with puppets.

This heartwarming manga is a must-read for any animal lover and anyone looking for a heartwarming story that will tug at your heartstrings.

The story follows a middle-aged man named Kanda, who is going through a difficult time in his life. He's recently lost his job, his wife has left him, and he's struggling to find purpose in his life. One day, he comes across a stray cat and decides to take him in. The cat, whom he names Fukumaru, is an adorable and loving companion who helps Kanda get through some of his toughest moments.

Plot - a widowed man buys a cat. This is their life together. It's a very simple idea, but wow. It's executed SO WELL. The themes of found family, friendship, love and caring for each other are done so well, as are those of loneliness, hopelessness and abandonment. It's definitely a series to read if you love cats. If you like music, it's probably a series you'd enjoy as many of the main characters are either professional players or teach at music schools.

It’s too mundane for me

Which is insane — I am one who reads pretty varied manga, I’d like to say at least. Bar a few genre’s like ecchi there aren't many types of manga I wouldn’t give a fair shot. However, this manga bored me.
