| There are waves of anime popularity, and watchers come and go with those waves. Anything before the current wave is going to have fewer numbers simply because fewer people were using MAL. And anything pre-2000 practically doesn't exist for many people. Jujutsu Kaisen not only has the typical shonen audience, but it also seemed to catch a bit of the SnK outflow after that ended. HUNTERxHUNTER is long considered to be one of the biggest shonen milestones in existence, up there with One Piece and Dragon Ball. I think it will always stay fairly high, no matter what. |
