This episode takes a darker turn, especially for Ruby. After finally landing the lead role as Ai Hoshino, this isn’t a “clean” victory, but the start of a much heavier mental burden. Her trauma regarding her parents begins to resurface, and it’s clear that Ruby is slowly heading toward a state of increasing psychological distress.

On the other hand, Kana lands a role in an idol group that hates Ai; unfortunately, Kana’s current feelings are being manipulated within Aqua’s game of revenge.

Aqua, edgy and manipulative as usual, but her reunion with Akane after their breakup shows that their relationship isn’t truly over—there are unresolved emotions, but also a gap that can no longer be bridged. This ship has already sunk; it was toxic from the start, let alone now.

This episode isn’t about major plot progression, but more about affirming the direction: Ruby will be the center of the next tragedy, and all the other characters are just orbiting around that game.

Not sure if it's because I watched this episode on the same day a family friend passed away, but witnessing Ruby's true feelings about her mother's and the doctor's deaths and how she is still haunted by their deaths, hit hard. Not to mention that after credit scene, where Ruby's feelings towards her mother from her previous life came boiling back up.

At least the cat is finally out of the bag and Ruby now knows a little bit about what her brother has been up to this entire time. And not only her, seeing the reactions of Kana, Frill and Akane to the script in the episode was a nice touch.

Excited for the final episode of this season.

i actually really hate that it was not Akane for Ai's role. She truly understands Ai as she was during that period of time, which Ruby has never bothered to figure out on more than a surface level.
Ruby may "understand Ai's pain" as her daughter, but I don't feel like that was enough of a reason to grant her the role.
And Ruby pulling that as the reason she should have the role? "I'm Ai's daughter"? She wouldn't be able to do that unless Aqua made that information public. Which she told Aqua off for. She told him she couldn't trust *anybody* because of that, and now that's her reason?

Ruby is not ready to take on this role as she is right now. and that showed in the end credits.

Ruby's trying so hard despite still struggling with the trauma of Ai's death, and now she'll potentially have to deal with the turmoil of meeting her own (Sarina's) neglectful mother. Her resolve is admirable, but I hope she doesn't push herself too far or she'll really break.

On the other hand, Aqua's aura is becoming increasingly sinister after fully dedicating himself to revenge, especially with how he challenged Akane to stop him if she can and mentioned how easy Kana is to manipulate. He's clearly already planning on drawing out Hikaru using the movie, though I wonder if he'll hesitate to actually kill him when the chance comes, as he might realise during filming that Ai wouldn't want this.

I'm also excited about the final episode of S3 being an hour long, since I was a little upset when I heard it'd have two less episodes than S2. It should give them more time to build up towards the 15-Year Lie arc, which will hopefully deliver a fulfilling ending to the series.

Ruby playing Ai just makes sense. Akane is truly an amazing actress but the role just suits Ruby. Even if she wasn't the daughter of the woman the role is based on, her ability to easily connect to Ai's true depressive side is on point. Kind of like, you could cast any actress to play a lesbian who could easily kiss another woman. But it's entirely different story when the person casted is an actual lesbian.

@Fairytelly I totally forgot about that until you mentioned it! Yeesh, now the last scene makes more sense as a cliffhanger. Will be interesting to see if they reorder things for this finale coming up.

Akane is such a bitch, ruby was literally talking about her mom (and of course they knew it was true, not a lie), and Akane fkng goes and impersonates as Ai lmao

I appreciate that Ruby's classmate actor saw the script and immediatly understood that, without even really knowing him, Aqua is a piece of shit lmao

And what does Aqua plan to do after everything is solved? Fkng kill himself? lol

So that's why this season is listed with only 11 episodes, we're getting an hour-long finale. Still can't believe how well they're cooking this series, I can't wait for next week!

I liked it! I am not fully on board with where the story is going at this point, but the adaptation itself remains top notch, with the animation, visuals, music, and overall production in general being S tier. This is also a really sympathetic depiction of Ruby, which makes her incredibly easy to empathize with in spite of her obvious sociopathy. I guess that just serves to make her that much more tragic (yes, in case it was not clear, that post-credits scene really hit hard for me; in fact I'd say up to that point this episode was a 3/5 for me, and that basically singlehandedly lifted it to a 4/5).

A 1 hour finale next week, let's see Doga Kobo bring it home.

So Ruby will play the lead role of her late mother but the lady that was introduced at the very end is supposedly her other, or first, mother? Damn I can see that really complicating things if Ruby sees her, hope it doesn't mess up her acting role. Meanwhile Aqua got visited by the crow girl again and I think that she's in his head, in other words imaginary but that was after I thought maybe that was Ai reincarnated... not really sure. Anyways, I'm looking forward to the 1 hour long finale and I can't recall watching a series with an extended final episode, especially one that also had an extended first episode.

I knew this is where the downfall started in the manga, from how every cast is written this episode, I can already see the drop in writing wise. Like how corny it is to see Ruby when she thinks of the past or how Aqua acted in some scenes, I really don’t like it like their expressions and dialogue its so overdramatic and corny.

I was really turned off by how we're just skipped to Kana quitting as an idol. Like it was a whole major build up to the creation of B Komachi and now it's cast aside. Everyone's an actor now except for mem who is tossed aside. I know the group's days were always numbered but it feels like they wasted all that development just to jump to the revenge story.

I may need to reread this part in the manga because Aqua seems noticeably less, how should I put this, maniacal as he is in the manga. He isn’t smiling evilly when daring Akane to try and stop him and he doesn’t laugh when Kana storms out of the room.

Aqua is starting to really pmo someone gotta whoop his ahh. Crazy bird lady is back and even trynna give him hints but nothings getting through his thick ass skull. PLEASE arima wake up and stop crushing over him save yourself. I kinda like his development though he might start turning into someone you dont root for which is kinda unexpected but well see. Also plesase give akane more screen time and development.I used to think arima and aqua should be together but i feel like akane with aqua has a lot more poential. Ruby still not there yet but its obvious next episode is gonna be about her with the appearance of what im pretty sure was cancer girls mom at the end of the ep. And oh my god please i hope this season doesnt only have 11 episodes, i cant wait another yearrr man.

Animation quality of this episode was shockingly poor, sometimes I wondered if it's Champignon Witch powerpoint instead of OnK? The sudden lack of chemistry between Aquamarine and Arima Kana also stood out like a sore thumb and their conversation was simply jarring. The franchise has been terribly massacred.

(It also doesn't help that the "grand finale" is taking place against a real-world backdrop of early stages WW3, thus making OnK's basic premise feel totally insignificant: a single orphan-turned-idol nixed vs millions of Epstein pedo files and forever wars killing tens of thousands created to cover that up...)

Ruby being honest and covering it up as acting has to be one of the greatest scenes of all 3 series, and we all know there is plenty to choose from,
but those two are pros so they surely realized which one was real, as even confirmed by Akane's follow-up, which was also really good.
Mood and expression switches in those scenes are once again brilliant.
Aqua manipulating Kana was also a great scene in the end, but poor Kana, blinded by love and not realizing his recent change of attitude is too fishy to be real.
We got introduced to a creative process of another medium, this time film-making, although it would be even better if they were more thorough with it, like with the others (2.5D Stage Play, Reality show).
Even the after-ED scene showing and explaining Ruby's grind was insane.

Again and again thanks to Oshi no Ko for constantly outdoing itself and confirming to be one of the best.

I'm also a bit disappointed that we seem to be wrapping up the B Komachi element of the plot. Everything seems to be culminating with this movie, but the idol element of this series was such a focal point of the first season that it's a shame to just quietly phase it out and focus on the acting side.

I was hoping that they'd at least perform together at the Tokyo Dome before calling it quits.

As for my thoughts about the rest of the episode, I knew Akane was perfect for the role of Ai and I knew that Ruby would end up getting it instead. At least they're taking things in an interesting direction with her character, so I can't be too mad. Looks like Ruby's just as suicidal as her brother. Good grief, what a mess they're in.

The little (death god?) girl is talking some mad shit to Aqua. Is she auditioning to badmouth Ai in the movie, too? I kept wanting him to turn around and just outright say, 'Okay, but why are you pestering me so much?'
I mean, he knows, but it'd be nice to see him just try and put her in her place to see what happens.

My wife and I had no idea who that lady at the end was or why the cliffhanger dropped with the camera focused on her. I won't lie, I didn't really take in Sarina's last name because I figured it wouldn't be that important to the plot. It's pretty cool that I ended up being dead wrong about that. This is why I read the comments!

Onward to the hour-long special (or thereabouts, with ad time removed) - I have a bad feeling that we're gonna be hit with some real drama, otherwise they wouldn't need an hour to wrap this season up.

Very good like always, feels like the shows dragging its feet on its way to actually producing the movies
its just a little bit of background before producing, and its whatever
so, what ever, very fun thought really liked how supernatural the show is turning by like semi hinting at an explanation as to why ruby and aqua were reincarnated
Loved how the sun look in that scene, so pretty
cant wait for next episode and you will have no clue what that end credit scene means without reading the manga so not really sure why they included it
Maybe to slim down their introduction for the season finally?

I feel like I haven't read the manga, and the more I watch, the more confused and annoyed I get with these characters. Akane straight-up annoys me. Who is she to stop Aqua from doing what he feels he wants? I can see why he dumped her. Instead of supporting Aqua, she's making decisions for him. She may mean well, but it's selfish in a way to determine what he wants. So, I don't think she truly understands anything.

I really hate that Aqua is messing with Akane. Aqua can get his revenge without being such an asshole. That's the one thing that irritates me about his character. It's like a grown-ass man is in the body of a teen, being a jerk to an actual teenager.

I find it interesting that Aqua is visited by some death lady who informs him of his reincarnation purpose, but I don’t get why Ruby hasn't been shown having the same visit. So, can someone explain to me—are their purposes just to avenge Ai’s death and then die again? Both of them, I mean? The show hasn't really explained how reincarnation works and why. Does the manga explain it? No spoilers, but if someone can answer that question, it would be great, because then I’ll read the manga.
