@Inexplicable If you're making these conclusions just based on the poster, then I'm afraid it's wishful thinking on the level of "they're close so they're gay." The official website describes MC as having the personality of a 10-year-old child. But this is only the first episode, who knows?

Personally, I'm interested in something else. Why is the show so harshly receiving such negative score even though people in the comments seem to love it and why is everyone praising the lack of exposition so much when the writers promised in interviews that it would have a pretty big world with a ton of interesting themes and potential for universe building. Or is this a similar case of Licorice Recall where blind spots were deliberately left in the plot for potential story development?

To sum it up, it's trying too hard to be not anime. If that makes sense. Personally I am not a fan of the directing style used here. It's like they took Miyazaki's words on how anime shouldn't be pandering to local market and otakus way too literally.

Also it's still just the first episode of an original anime, people just aren't sure what to rate it bc it's the typical android/robots getting discriminated by humans thing.

@karrotStick Well, I'm used to a lot of shows getting a low rating very quickly after the first episode premieres, especially if it's too much wish fulfillment and male-pandering, but when I wrote this the show had a 7.02 or something like that, which is why I was very impressed.

I barely managed to finish this, hoping it improves in a hurry. I was excited to see a simul-dub, but that was a big miss for me as well.
If you reply back to me and I never respond, I lost interest and don't care. Sorry about that.

Probably should have opened with a double episode. There are too many unknowns about the story for any impact/me to care about the death of a character that was just introduced. Just felt rushed.

It's interesting to see how opinions from a person to another can differ so wildly. This seems to have a low score at the moment, and yet, to me it's been the best first episode of the season so far. Granted, the over-the-top knife-licking villain stereoptype is annoying, and the "humans bullying androids" thing is quite trite as well, but I found the atmosphere and the eye for detail to be very captivating and, for once, the anime doesn't treat me like I'm 6 years old and spares me long and unsubtle introductions. Will stick around for sure.

the settings are interesting, I remember other animes, futuristic, technologies and robots. The qualities, design and aesthetics are perfect, the lights shine perfectly with their characters. the songs matched the scenes. Some characters are good. I hope to learn more in the next episodes. Until the episode was interesting involving these mysteries.

This was the anime I was most interested in going into this season. So far, I like it more than not. Give me some sci-fi anime any day baby. I wonder if the story will take more of an anthology-approach; kind of feels like it's going to be that way. Perhaps a monster (or rather, what was it, nean?) of the week formula. Whatever the case is, I'm intrigued to learn more about this world on Mars, and more about our main lead Rouge. Who, despite having little character other than liking chocolate, has me all heart-eyes.

It's a Bones original anime that's the only reason I checked it out and after 1 episode I feel they should have used this budget to increase production value for MHA lmao. I liked Naomi's character design, perfection. Rogue like chocolate like omg waifu of the season. Seems to have some goofy ass monster of the week formula where we're gonna kill 9 androids for some reason, idk why the first Purgatory whatever one was killed for. I know that we're waiting for the plot expo and all, but the way this episode was going had me rooting for Viola Keanes rather than Rouge. I hope Rouge's motivation of eliminating the immortal bots will be satisfactory, so far she looks like the villain here.
Plot aside, worldbuilding tickles my Watanabe bone a teensy bit, but the way it's going, I suspect this anime will lean more into the mecha fantasy rather than the techpunk. Not that that's bad.
I'll give it 3 eps, hope it's cooking something mighty fine.

Honestly rather disappointed in that premiere. Script felt super dry and the pacing was really awkward. Didn't feel like there was a ton to grab on to. Some of that's probably intentional but it needs to fix it real fast regardless to keep me on board.

IKR, some works can do the "drop audience feet first into plot" thing well, but this one feels like a lukewarm puddle rather than a mire of intrigue and suspense. I hope the depths we'll dive into will reveal more as later episodes exposit the going-ons of the cast and the world.

Okay, I might need some more time to warm up to this one. Nothing really made sense but let’s just hope that’s all intended outcomes of this pilot episode and we’ll be able to see the big picture in due time.

On the production side, it’s no wonder that Bones isn’t cutting any corners, the dystopian setting is on point. And the main set of characters, two protags and the one antagonist, seem fairly interesting too. It’ll come down to the plot in a few eps, I feel, and here’s to hoping that’ll deliver.

Pretty cool Op, both musically and visually, in the end there. And the insert song suggests there are a few foreign artists involved. Could be the making of something here…

So, this girl expressly refuses to help an android, who is dying without his medicine. After that she decides to murder a woman who was very kind to her.
Why exactly am I supposed to care about her or support her in any way? Maybe show will explain it eventually. But you really should not antagonize viewers to such an extent from the get-go.

Very pretty. The two characters I actually cared about got almost no screen time and one of them died. Most of the characters are just uninteresting tropes. Not sure why I should care about the story, world, or characters. Knock off Blade Runner bullshit. Hope the next 2 episodes suck less.

Straight out of Blade Runner and Ghost in the Shell, in a young season this is the anime of the season thus far. Inject it into my veins!

Kinda seems like a Tokusatsu story with extra steps. It might be a bit of a stretch calling this a mecha anime.

That being said I liked this anime a lot. This is the first BONES mecha anime since Eureka Seven AO I have watched at the actual time it aired. It means something seeing that just because you use 3D CG and similar color palettes like other anime of the past 5 years, doesn't mean you can't create an anime work of art comparable to the old style of animation. This episode was really pretty and usually the first 3 or 4 episodes of a BONES mecha anime are nice to look at.

I mean they really brought that feeling of 00s era animation, down to old school creeper style fanservice. It's different from just making characters naked to titillate your audience. I'm not gonna lie and say I love creepshots, but it does make me nostalgic for the way Gainax and others forced fanservice down your throat. AKA, it's mecha watching 101. I also peeped the plays BONES made to make this show relatable to kids. Who else is gonna say I don't eat food, all I want is chocolate?

Besides that, all the BONES tropes are present and accounted for. A dark mature world with a story that doesn't care if you know what's going on or not. Random silliness and almost assuredly some kind of mascot character. A mystery that is drip fed to you throughout the season that will almost certainly end up disappointing you at the end. Super unnecessary fanservice, the mecha way. Plus you GOTTA have some over the top characters somewhere.

It's BONES, so it's no surprise the fight looked good. That's been their thing for a long time which is 25 years now. I am really hoping they make it more traditional mecha like and give us some robot suits you pilot. Kinda like in Xam'd. But whatever they choose to do, I'm along for the ride.

It immediately hit with strong cyberpunk vibes, lots of Blade Runner and Ghost in the Shell, I thought it was more of a mecha show beforehand. Beyond that, they clearly wanted to push the action immediately for the first episode but I have no idea what’s going on right now. There’s a suggestion of more depth so hopefully that’s not just superficial.

An enjoyable but confusing start.

Seems like a very complicated plot and those shows tend to be slow starters.

But this one really didn't capture my interest so far. The protagonists have not been given any personality or background - aside from being evil, silent and edgy, which isn't exactly my favorite trope.. There were too many names and information dumped onto me. And I feel like I wasted my time.

Of course, it gets the 3 episode rule and this is one show that might turn things around. After all, I wrote a similar review to High Card's premiere about a year ago and it ended up as my AotS.

The opening theme is a banger. We had to wait 'till the end to enjoy it, tho. Rouge is beautiful, but her eyes are purple, not red ;_;. Her name is Rouge, not Violette XD.

I wish the show had a bit more comedy, the tone it's way too serious for its own good.
