This is a place where people are nice to each other. Contrary to the believed idea that the Internet is like a jungle. Where the old users can bully the "worthless" new ones. You can post here without being afraid that anyone will harass you, because if anyone did. They will end up getting a sweet ban for sure~
What is the story behind this café?
Back in the forum days, some guy made a "Tea Sipping Thread", it was a little thread where people sipped tea(obviously), I went to the thread and started to *Sips Coffee*, the guy didn't like that, and he kept e-punching me and things like that, eventually that guy told me that "this thread is a tea sipping thread, go make your coffee thread if you want to sip that".
Which is what I did, the thread title was like that at the beginning:-
Coffee Sipping Thread, You Can Sip Tea Here As Well, As We Are Not Racists
And the original post was:-
*Sips Coffee*
It is not my style to create silly threads like that, so that title didn't last long, the same day the thread was created I changed its title to:-
Monia Café:
And the original post changed to:-
You Can Sip Tea Here As Well, As We Are Not Racists
*Sips Coffee*
Sounds familiar, huh? :D
The thread reached 200 posts then died, but it was revived then and it got 5600+ posts when forum moderators decided to close all chat threads and have only one.
When the café thread had about 1000 posts, one of the regulars said that we should have a club for it, I didn't like the idea honestly, but I did it, the club was secondary to the thread, and I only showed it to those who were there when I created it. It only had 12 members at the time.
When the café thread got closed, the club became the main thing, but I didn't like the idea of working on it, as opposed of having one thread where people comes to naturally. But the place stayed there and I kept hanging out with the members of it until the late 2011, when I abandoned it, which caused it to die for 8 month.
In April 2012, and because of some circumstances, I revived the café with the help of Kairen, my friend, and an officer here since day one, it had about 68 members at the time. I started creating threads one by one, and things went well, it attracted people on its own, and starting from mid-2013, I started to expand it more & more.
I like this café, is there a way to help out? <<< This question was originally suggested by @TimeToRepent~~new~
You can help in more than a way:-
- Welcome new members, and be nice to them (as long as they acted well too). Try to start a conversation with them too, and not just say "welcome" to them.
- Report rules violations, or simply make the person fix it. (by removing a bad word for one).
- Manage events in case you have a good idea for one.
Does this café have a Discord?
Yes~
Why does Namine's café & other clubs have a similar name to this one?~new~
My personal guess is that they liked the word "café", and found it fancy, so they used it, and it slowly became a trend to use it in club names.
Also, my friend elkensteyin had a better answer to this question:- :)
elkensteyin said: Close, but not quite - back in 2013, Monia was the only major cafe club, and was a very popular club. Then Nami (0namine1) came around, created a club, and for good or bad, named it Namine's Cafe after Monia. I was asked to come into Namine's by Nami shortly after she created it, and I eventually took it over (although I'll never change the name). Since then, the two cafe's have been two of the most popular and active clubs in MAL history, and many other clubs have followed suit and named themselves cafe's, although none has come anywhere near the original cafe (Monia) or the 2nd cafe (Namine's).
Hope that doesn't steal any thunder Monia ^_^
Why there used to be "You can sip tea here as well, as we're not racists" on the café page?
You can find the answer of this question by reading the story of this café in the answer of the question above this one~
Why the creator of this café, and many of the members here have such long favorites list? (Note:- Such lists are not shown by MAL now)
This is an old trick that dates back to MAL early day. To add more than the designated number of favorites. You must have at least one empty space in your favorite Character/Anime/Manga/People. And when the site lags, which used to happen so often in the past. You will be able to add favorites to your heart content as long the lag is still going.
Is this café for girls only?
No, rule #8 is meant as a joke :)
Who is allowed in this café?
Generally speaking, anyone is welcome here, as long as they abide by the rules, but since this place prioritize having good relationships between members, some kinds of people are often banned. Some of these people are:-
Troll:- Tries to have fun by ruining it on other people. The Smartass:- Argues a lot, and tries to find loopholes in the rules all the time. The Expert:- The one who thinks they know how this place should work, they find it hard to accept there are tons of ways to run a club, or that I make decisions based on long experience running this place. Bear in mind that giving me feedbacks on how this place can be better is totally okay and is not what I am talking about here. Needy people:- They act selfish, seek attention by being critical of themselves or others , try to appear as victims even when they are at fault, hard to talk to. Cause scenes when all they have to do is to change their behaviors a little. The Hypocrite:- Speaks a lot behind people's back, often abides by the rules perfectly. Cliques:- Cliques are the opposite of what this place is made for, so ganging up for whatever reason is strongly looked down upon here.
Okay, I got banned, what to do now?~new~
Simple, message me with an appeal, make sure it is polite, as much as possible.
Bear in mind that appealing to me is the only acceptable way to get unbanned. Causing fuss, problems or trying to soil this café's reputation will simply make the ban permanent, even if the ban was unfair, sadly speaking.
Wow, nice history, its nice to see the cafe is still being moderated and is still as active as it is having been open for over 10 years ^^. Well if you don't mind ill be spending some time here to relax and have fun!

Yes, and I hope it stays like that (it was on the verge of getting closed few times though)
