Twinkle Nora Rock Me!

Time to review a truly legendary anime. I think at this point, most people have seen clips of Nora. It's garnered some real infamy on Youtube. However, to actually watch it in its full 30 minute glory is a different experience entirely!

This last season wasn't the greatest. All the top reviewers are scrambling to write 1/10 and 2/10 reviews for God of High School, SAO part 9 and whatever bland isekai was shat out this season. The sad fact is that if you took all 10,000 anime ever made, those are all probably more accurately in the 4-5 range. You wanna know what real 1/10 ... shitfest looks like? Welcome back to the 1980s. There's no internet. There's no way to know what anime are good or bad. You pick out a random laserdisk or VHS with a hot anime waifu and hope for the best. Some lucky folks managed to pick out stuff like Gunbuster, but others grabbed something like Nora. It's a little cheaper than other laserdisks and the girl looks kind of cute. How bad could it be?


The first thing I'll say about Nora is that it has a surprisingly catchy soundtrack! Oh...and it's also the most poorly animated thing I've ever seen. EVER! They axed all the in-between frames to save on budget and used only key frames. Nora is 30 minutes and runs at a rate of 2-3 frames of animation per second for large portions of its runtime. I don't think you can even really call Nora animation at that point. It truly is more akin to a powerpoint presentation. Even the people at Dingo Pictures would look down on Nora's animation! You have to laugh at the sheer audacity of the people who released Nora on to store shelves in the state it was in and charged money for it.


Nora has something special about it beyond the horrendous animation though! It also breaks a general trend of anime. Nora is OP beyond all reason. She is hands down the biggest Mary Sue I've EVER seen in the medium, which means Nora can claim to be the strongest character in the history of anime. Usually, Japanese comics are written by 1 person and have a beginning and ending. Japanese readers have always expected characters to be somewhat human and struggle to achieve their goals. There are some exceptions like Duke Togo, or joke characters like One Punch Man, but this has historically limited power creep in manga/anime. American comics are the polar opposite. They run forever with often over 100 authors contributing to the history of a character. American readers love the concept of their hero being the strongest and Superman in issue 2101 is expected to be a little stronger than he was in issue 2100. It becomes this childish pissing contest of "Nuh Uh, my character can run at infinity plus 1 miles per hour!" For example, DC is so childishly, stupidly broken at this point that over a dozen characters have speed or strength described as beyond infinite and those aren't the top tier! The top tier of characters are those that can annihilate the multiverse in an instant, then remake it from scratch, then destroy it again.

What does this have to do with Nora? Perfect waifu Nora achieves the power journey that took most DC characters 90 years in 30 minutes. In half an hour, Nora displays telekinesis, teleportation, time dilation, pyrokinesis, reality warping, flight, and that's not even all her powers. She's some kind of Elder God for no explained reason. Shonen battle kids can argue all day about if X character in Dragonball can beat Y character from Bleach. I can laugh and say Nora would just blink both of them out of existence. She could just rewrite the timeline so they never existed. She's THAT broken! If Nora got a 13 episode anime, she'd be as strong as DC's Lucifer Morningstar. I kind of love the sheer absurdity of a space bounty hunter with no explained origins being that powerful for no reason.

The whole anime is free to watch on Youtube, but if you want to own a piece of anime history, the original laserdisk is for sale on ebay in heavily used condition for the low price of 330 American dollars! Shipping and sales tax not included!

Twinkle Nora Rock Me! is an OVA best watched with friends who like to watch trainwrecks unfold. Essentially, a genderbent Boba Fett named Nora goes to Tattooine to pick up a bounty on a space criminal worth several thousand times this OVA's animation budget. She picks up a scrappy midget in a town of huts after a bar fight with a drunken giant, starts a rock band with the scrappy in a cave, and then uses her impractical flying wheeled machine to lazily drift across the screen until she reaches the house of the illegal space wizard. She uses unexplained and ... wildly improbable powers such as telekinesis, time travel, and impromptu heart attacks iin order to vanquish this wizard, and then stars as the lead vocalist in the newly expanded cave's rock band.

It takes all of this seriously. Poe's Law is not in effect, it's just that bad.

The first four minutes of this OVA are presented to you in the format of a lovely slideshow to introduce the characters, but don't actually introduce anything and aren't intended to be a slideshow. You may attempt to fiddle with your video player in a vain attempt to fix the lag and dropped frames, but soon you realize that the frames were never even there to begin with. A man slides across the room and jitters to a halt at a glorious pace of two frames per second. This isn't animated on thirds, or even fourths - it's animated on twelves. At 4:02 it finally begins animating properly, only to have characters repeatedly go off-model. Important character details appear and vanish in the blink of an eye, and characters make improbable movements repeatedly.

The sound design is nothing short of pathetic. The music, unfitting to any sequence applied to it. Sound effects make no sense and don't accompany their sources. Voices don't match the mouth flaps over half the time, and the voice actors give an overwhelmingly awful performance in their roles.

There is no character to be had other than generic archetypes that can be summarized as flat. There's nothing here. Nothing. Nora's powers are never explained, and she seems to conjure up more at will. The scrappy midget that tags along after the bar fight is worthless and accomplishes nothing of value, not growing as a person and not doing anything by himself.

OVERALL 1/10 HIGHLY ENJOYABLE WITH FRIENDS, OR IF YOU LIKE MAKING FUN OF THINGS AS A LONELY PERSON.

Twinkle Nora Rock Me! Wasn't terrible, but it's nothing special. Still kept me watching though.

For the time it was made, the art isn't that bad. At the first a lot of things seemed lazy and choppy, but the main character Nora was drawn well.

While I didn't find there was too much dialogue, the music really stood out for the background scenes. Also going along with the music, expect there to be some dancing and musical scenes in this anime.

If you have half an hour of free time and want to see something your friends probably haven't seen- then go watch Twinkle Nora Rock Me!

Yesterday I watched what is undoubtedly the greatest animation ever made. The fluidity of movement in Twinkle Nora Rock Me is disrupted by the intentional two frame per second staccato that the director uses to throw the viewer off-balance. This may be off putting to the more casual viewer, but connoisseurs will be quick to notice that the effect fits perfectly with the themes of the film. The seemingly random nature of the plot perfectly mirrors the shaky jump cuts that have come to define the film.
Nora is ultimately a meditation on the chaos of the universe and the inevitability of humanity’s surrender to it. ... Nora’s powers, back story, profession, and even clothing change from scene to scene for no reason because Nora cannot be contained. She is immutable change, and as such remains in constant flux. There can be no definitive plot about Nora because Nora is the ultimate level of abstraction. Any sequence of events that would seem logical to the human mind cannot coexist with Nora, because Nora represents the distortion of those very sequences.
What isn’t apparent, even after multiple viewings, is why such a primal and chaotic force is regarded as the protagonist. In any other film we would likely follow mere mortals trying to resist Nora’s power, vainly attempting to escape the inevitable madness she will bring upon their minds. So why in this film is Nora the protagonist? It is because Nora isn’t meant to be human. While almost every story we create centers on the human experience, Nora is a film of Cosmic proportions. Nora isn’t a protagonist that represents the struggles of humanity, she is a more universal protagonist. Chaos is the ultimate destroyer in this universe, but it is also the ultimate creator. Much of the material that comes within the gravitational field of a black hole is not consumed but shredded down to its barest elements and flung to the far reaches of space to form new and wonderful things. In the same way Nora is a protagonist that obliterates the human mind, leading to near total ego death, aligning us once and for all with our truest selves. Thus, while the film is incomprehensible to most, it is this very incomprehensible nature that makes it worthy of very film award and our eternal praise.

The show is so bad that it is good, but it is like watching a PowerPoint as at some parts it goes from smooth footage to choppy which ruins the atmosphere and the story as you really wouldn't understand what the characters would be doing but it makes it funnier in a way, which adds to the enjoyment as you laugh at it. the story is basic and the characters are somewhat funny.



The dance scene is hilarious and the voice acting is just the best, it is rather bland in some parts and a bit cliche but it adds to the comedic value. would not ... mind watching this show again.

If you haven't checked out this youtube video, well this was how LA came across Twinkle Nora Rock Me! and boy....after actually watching the anime itself, does it deliver on that title.

Twinkle Nora Rock Me! is technically a sequel to the OVA Nora that came out in the same year of 1985 but it follows an overpowered bounty hunter of Nora trying to take down a sorcerer who pretty much owns a lawless land and it's up to Nora to take him down, Max tags along with Nora though wanting the ambition to be dancer one day...no ... this isn't a non-sequitur though how THAT plot thread was introduced is.

And that in the simplest and ONLY terms is the plot. No seriously.

As for the animation, well this is the main *ahem* reasoning as to why you'd want to even watch this OVA is merely for the literally missing hundreds of frames of animation-like it is and it's just utterly and gloriously delivered with all the hints of it wanting to be taken seriously at that. Sure you can chalk this up as it being made in 1985, but thinking on it, anime like Urusei Yatsura, Dr. Slump, Hokuto no Ken were being released and yeah...you can't defend it by saying it was made during the mid-80's. But the animation is a morbid curiosity and standout and of the entire OVA to say the least and has value in how NOT to make your anime on a budget of a toothpick.

Twinkle Nora Rock Me! is by all means a morbid curiosity of the past in actually showing what happens if you have a budget of lint and barely a story from a existing source material or another words...

Ore ga Suki nano wa Imouto dakedo Imouto ja Nai: 1985 Edition

So here we have Nora on her second outing and... oh my....
Well it's not like the first was a masterpiece or anything. It was a poorly written tale of a woman who saves the world from a computer gone mad with only her stereotypical feminine charm and motherly instincts... so yeah... it was really stupid and mildly offensive... but what we have here, well I wouldn't say it's worse than the first, but equally bad for entirely different reasons.
First off there is the story, now for some unknown reason Nora is a powerful ESPer bounty hunter on the trail of the world's most wanted "magician"... ... and really that's about it... she finds him... they have a lame fight where not much really happens and yeah... that's about it... well there is one other thing, but I'm saving that for the next section
Now we get to the animation/art, and it's bad REALLY bad. The art is lazy, and the animation is even lazier. We start with a 2 frames a second introductory sequence that goes on for far too long, and it's unclear why it's even a thing in the first place, it's just awkward and confusing. Oh and speaking of awkward and confusing, later on or intrepid foxy lady meets a midget that want's to be a dancer, which spurs on what is possibly the worst animated dance sequence know to man kind. Really this is almost a watch simply just for that.
As far as the music, sound effects, and voice acting goes, I feel like the previous review was massively exaggerating. The music is instantly forgettable, but it's not offensively bad, it's kinda just there. Same with the sound effects. I also feel like the voice actors did a decent job.
All and all I'd say watch this if you want a good laugh and know you are getting into something really stupid and poorly made. In all honesty I find this one a bit easier to take due to the fact that our protagonist is no longer a helpless waif.

Well, this was... an experience for certain... that I think every anime enjoyer should experience this one at least once. Yes, the Animation is choppy and quite hard to watch at times, HOWEVER, I'm not going to lie... I wish that we got a better anime for Nora as I honestly think she could have been an interesting character. Overall 2/10. 1 point for Nora (poor Nora for being in such a show) and 1 point for the cave dancing scene.

It could be worse... it's not a horrible anime in any way really, but it's definitely ranked below any that I've watched so far. I gave it a three due to its sheer blandness. It might be OK, say a 5, if one were stoned, but that's about it.

Is the story unique? Only insofar as any Mary Sue can be. Bounty hunter on the hunt, and has some superpowers. Not much more to her than that, other than that apparently she could be the next Jem, just waiting for her ... Holograms, as it were.

If it was predictable, did you enjoy it anyway because you like this genre/set-up? N/A: more or less semi-random events, with only the conclusion (she wins) predictable.

Do you think the art style is fitting for the story? Actually, yes. Aside from the styles that one encounters in anime changing over time, this one's was typical enough of the '80s. That said though, it really did look about right for the events' settings.

Were the characters well-rounded? N/A: it's a half-hour one-shot, so no, there wasn't enough time to really round out anyone.

Did they have flaws and strengths, or were they unusually strong/smart/stupid? Nah, they were solidly one dimensional: Big Bad Guy is a lummox, Evil Psionicist is evil.

Did the characters react to situations and events in a realistic way? Given their natures and apparent psychologies, yes.

Do you think others will enjoy/dislike this series, even if you didn't? Why? Not really, other than true fans of the genre itself, with an appreciation of the evolution of the artform. If you want a deep story line, profound insights, cool worldbuilding... wrong place to look. It might appeal to shōnen fans, given some mild violence in it, but I'm not certain of that much even.

Overall 1: Parts weren't animated, the sound hurt to listen to, the art even in key frames didn't even look good, the story was non nonsensical and even though the characters were forgetful you still tried your best to forget them sooner. I wouldn't even recommend this as a hate watch, even if you like watching bad stuff intentionally its not even so bad its good its just bad in every conceivable metric.

it felt a little too bland so i rated it a 1 because of a boring story and insane 2fps part,the story prior to this one about Nora is not related to this at all even tho its titled as a sequel,got there for the meme value and honestly i rated original Nora a 5,i wouldve gave it a 5.5 if it were allowed,it is definitely not a 6 and definitely not a 4 so i picked best awailable option of just 5 for original nora and i would not have done same for this one,if not for the animation being meme grade id give ... it a 3,its so bad that its good honestly is the approach to have with this which is why even tho i gave it a 1 i recommend anyone to see it as it trully is funny from how bad it is

If you enjoyed the previous Nora, it’s probably best to set those expectations aside before watching this OVA. While it intended to build on the prequel, the final result feels confused and underdeveloped.

It’s hard to tell what happened in the ten months between productions, but the OVA comes across as rushed, almost like an unfinished project. The plot is practically non-existent, offering little direction or payoff, and the animation frequently resembles a slideshow. In fact it feels more like it is intended to serve as a music video then a sci-fi bounty hunter show.

That said, Nora herself remains much the same. Her chaotic, unpredictable ... personality is still on display, including moments that lean into absurd humour. Fans of exaggerated antics may find a small amount of enjoyment here, even if those moments are few.

Overall, this is more perplexing than entertaining. If curious and don’t mind wasting 20 minutes, it may be worth a look purely as an oddity in anime history. However it might be worth a miss if you are looking for good entertainment.

This is truly a life changing experience. I truly felt like this manga came to life, the panels were so kinetic. And doing it in colour. Mwah! Wait what do you mean this isn't a manga.


Jokes aside this ova is bad, really bad. So bad in fact that I laughed at it more than most comedy anime. No really, my chest actually hurt after watching this.
You're going to have to watch this with friends, otherwise you won't enjoy it as much.

You don't need sound or music to enjoy this, you don't need to examine the finer details of the "plot" of this, you ... don't even need to claim nora as your waifu to enjoy this. The entertainment of this show is similar to a car crash. You know it's objectively terrible but you just can't look away. And unlike a car crash this is comedic (unless your into that). It doesn't have 'comedy' per se it's just so stupid it's funny.


TLDR: So bad it's good, watch with friends, it is not a story it's an E X P E R I E N C E.

Twinkle Nora Rock Me... well... if you ever wondered what a bad anime is, then here you go. I only watched this because it was constantly in my recommendation on YouTube.

Story: 1/10
The story there was made literally no sense, nothing was explained and everything was poorly executed.

Art: 2/10
The only reason this is getting a 2 instead of a 1 is because they managed to keep the proportions consistent throughout. The characters were really pretty and well designed, the art style was really nice. BUT, my god the animation... absolutely awful. At the beginning there wasn't even any animation?? And throughout the bits where there was ... animation, it was so jaggy and bad. Really hard to watch.

Sound: 1/10
The song they kept playing throughout this anime was so annoying and bad. The actual voice actors were okay, but nothing special.

Character: 4/10
I gave this a 4 instead of a 1 solely because I genuinely quite liked the contrast between Max and Nora. The dance scene was very laughable but also quite enjoyable at the same time. The only good part I would say. I did like those two characters quite a lot, very cute designs. I'd like to see these characters again if they ever were to recreate this disaster and make it good.

Even though the story and animation were absolutely dreadful, I still enjoyed it to an extent because of the characters. Still, wouldn't say it is worth the watch.

Despite the characters being good, I would still score this a 2/10. It was so extremely bad, the story, the execution, awful. Some parts were so bad that they were actually good but I really do not recommend watching it. It is not worth your time.

Quick take: It's as bad as they say it is, probably worse. Wouldn't recommend even as a joke.

I really don't have anything good to say about Twinkle Nora. If you've watched Nora, you'll know that the only reason to watch this anime is if you find Nora herself attractive. If you mute Twinkle Nora, you might be able to convince yourself that this is why you've chosen to waste 30 minutes of your life. I'll admit that I was intrigued since this is often lauded as the worst anime of all time. So, I watched it just to confirm.

The real problem lies in that this ... is nothing like the original Nora. Nora's charming personality, including her tendency to be ditzy was thrown out the window. She's no longer clumsy and suddenly she's found out she has magic psychic powers. I didn't include this as a spoiler because you find out in the first minute of the show. Nora is just no longer charming and she is rather cringy to watch.

The art is bad and the animation is down right dreadful in some parts. The better parts are passable, but barely. The sound is sub par.

The professor made for some fun dialogue in the first Nora, but he is entirely absent from Twinkle Nora and the dialogue is just garbage, since there is no professor like character in this sad excuse of a movie. All the other characters are unimportant except for the writer himself who appears as a short stubby goblin-like man who has the hots for Nora.

Don't waste your time unless you want to say you've seen the worst anime ever.

I watched this while drinking with a friend. The alcohol didn't make the anime any more sensible. All I got that it was either:

1. Very inspired by Star Wars... especially the cantina scene.
2. Rian Johnson and J.J Abrams passed the blunt around while watching this and writing their sequel trilogy... since the main character is pretty much just Rey.

Also best frame rate in an anime ever. Strongly recommend. If I drank more maybe my brain would catch up with it.
The 80s soundtrack is a classic. Is Nora meant to sound like a man or did I miss something? I'll go with I missed something.

Best part ... was Nora's strange bike/plane sci fi craft. Awesome, wish I had one.
