Azumanga Daiou The Animation

Chiyo Mihama begins her high school career as one of the strangest students in her freshman class—a tiny, 10-year-old academic prodigy with a fondness for plush dolls and homemade cooking. But her homeroom teacher, Yukari Tanizaki, is the kind of person who would hijack a student's bike to avoid being late, so "strange" is a relative word.

There certainly isn't a shortage of peculiar girls in Yukari-sensei's homeroom class. Accompanying Chiyo are students like Tomo Takino, an energetic tomboy with more enthusiasm than brains; Koyomi Mizuhara, Tomo's best friend whose temper has a fuse shorter than Chiyo; and Sakaki, a tall, athletic beauty whose intimidating looks hide a gentle personality and a painful obsession with cats. In addition, transfer student Ayumu Kasuga, a girl with her head stuck in the clouds, fits right in with the rest of the girls—and she has a few interesting theories about Chiyo's pigtails!

Together, this lovable group of girls experience the ups and downs of school life, their many adventures filled with constant laughter, surreal absurdity, and occasionally even touching commentary on the bittersweet, temporal nature of high school.

I can't believe I just finished this show...

Azumanga Daioh is 26 episodes of down-to-earth high school life. It captures the joy and whimsy of youth, shown through a lovable main cast. Each member has a "quirk" that makes them so much more lovable as you follow their activities throughout high school. They go on vacations to the beach, to amusement parks, different cities, participate in school sports and culture festivals, just like regular high schoolers. We get to see inside their minds, what goofy and silly thoughts each one may have, to the point where we may even spend most of an episode in their ... headspace instead of real life. Not to mention their amazing dynamics with each other make everything just seem so much more real. There are so many wholesome and raw moments that I would consider it a iyashikei, or healing anime.

For anyone who watches this anime, there's a high chance it's because of the plethora of memes scattered throughout the show, and I can confirm the memes live up to the hype when in context. Each meme you recognize feels like a reward almost, just like with JoJo's.

Now there are a few weak points I can think of, such as one of the teachers being kind of weird, and the show starting off a little slow. But, said teacher isn't as prevalent as our 2 main teachers (who are both amazing), and by the second half of the show, you've already been with the characters for so long that you can then start to see the greatness the show has to offer.

Overall, I would consider this show an "Iyashikei" or healing anime from the crazy amounts of wholesomeness and character bonding throughout this raw story about the whimsy of a group of high schoolers.

Mixed Feelings

tbh i slept thru the whole anime since like the 7th episode so i can't really say much about it BUT

the show has a great meme potential and is funny when you watch a compilation of it on youtube but when you watch it fully... god it's boring
the budget is really low, every couple of episodes there should be a joke about repeating the same thing over and over for like a minute
and it felt pretty funny at first but on the second, the third... why
some people may like that type of humour so i won't say that the show is just outright bad, you ... should still give it a try

Educated experts sad "Its like Nichijou". Nichijou from temu at best.
Osaka-san at the end very well summarised what happened in the entire show.
Chiyo-chan gained few cetimeters in hight, Sakaki-san in chest.

It had its moments ...a few, but mostly just girls and women screamed or shouted, sometimes to eachother.
Absolutely no one, not a single charachter developed a tiny bit by anymean.
It hadn't said anything meaningfull about lonelyness, love, friendship, decision making, strugling... caring... BUT ALL OF THIS, IS IN THE SHOW! For the fuck sake... sometimes a character raised the actual interesting question, with her mouth!
BUT! When the slightliest opportunity appeared to try to tell a ... story about something, what had actual weight or influence, the writers just droped. Left behind.
In the begginging i was so hyped because the setup was perfect for a silly slice of life comedy what actually had to say something.
Chiyo's age and the dinamycs between her and her class/schoolmates was a gold mine.
But there was Kaori's feelings, Sakaki's struggle to connect, the rivalry between Sakaki and Kagura, Osaka's struggle with her slowlyness, Yukary's lack of empaty, Minamino's decision about its own future, Kagura's challenges in various sports...
The saddest thing, this isn't even spoiler, because they didn't used them.
Episodes just happened one after another. There was no story, nothing to learn, nothing to say, nothing... just... loud emptiness.
At the end if they didn't screamed, they just... tiredly repeat something like morons, for minutes. Why was that anyway, budget cut? ...idc
Holy mother of sweet crucified Jesus on the wooden cross on the wall... there was TREMENDOUS amount of oppurtunities in this show and all of it left alone. Every interesting thing in this entire 26 episodes, left untouched.
The animation compared to The Very Short Movie and the Web Daiou was a step back too.

Then brings up the question, "Why did you watched it and why did you scored to 7 silly riváj?"

The answer is: Because it had the potential to tell something memorable. At least at the end.
1 to 4 basicaly unwatchable. 5-6 interesting, enjoyable at least in someway. 8-9 great with flaws. 10 Frieren or Evangelion.
But 7... 7 is the WORST. 7 has the material, the base to shine, but it doesnt even tried. It isn't fail, it isn't try.
Pure medicoreium.
