Otonari ni Ginga

Ichirou Kuga has suddenly found himself taking on the responsibility of caring for his two younger siblings after their father's untimely death. To make ends meet, Ichirou rents out rooms in the apartment complex he inherited and works full-time as a shoujo manga artist. However, his manga sales are low, his assistants have recently left, and deadlines are fast approaching.

As stress threatens to overtake Ichirou, salvation comes in the form of an extremely competent novice artist, Shiori Goshiki, who becomes his new assistant. With her skills, they are able to tide over the difficult situation, and things begin looking up. But in a bizarre accident, a supernatural experience unfolds between Ichirou and Shirou, which leads her to declare them engaged.

With this seemingly innocuous action upending his life, Ichirou now has to manage his new and peculiar relationship with the mysterious girl, all the while following his own passion and fulfilling the duties that rest on his shoulders.

This is one of the more mature romance animes i've seen. Mature, in the sense that it doesn't drag out unnecessary misunderstandings to an entire arc, nor does it consider Romance as the only thing the plot has to offer.
And although the first episode seems like a setup for an off-brand/gag-type manga, I was actually appalled (in a good way) at the lack of fan service this anime has to offer. Most romance anime rely heavily on perverted stuff, and it's sometimes hard to tell them apart from ecchi. But this one here's good.
One thing I didn't really find... well, it's not bad, but it's ... more like wasted potential.
The female MC's "alien" attributes sometimes feel unnecessary. Like, even if she were not an alien princess, perhaps the author could've told the same story. Often, I forgot that she's an alien. Again, there's even ambiguity in that, whether she's actually an alien or a 'human-turned-alien" type hybrid.
But that part is so minor an inconvenience that most won't even brush an eye. It's a situation where you can't find many wrongs, so you must search with a microscope.

Mixed Feelings

A Galaxy Next Door has a great concept and a very cute romantic atmosphere, but the execution is weak. The romance is wholesome and calm, but the pacing is extremely slow, to the point where it often feels boring rather than relaxing.

The main issue is the story writing. Despite an interesting setup, the anime doesn’t develop its ideas well, and many episodes feel stretched with little progression. I genuinely felt sleepy while watching at times.

The animation also looks better at first glance than it actually is. There are noticeable moments where background characters are completely static, like still images, which breaks immersion and makes the ... production feel cheap.

Shiori is adorable and easily the highlight of the anime, but a cute character alone isn’t enough to carry weak pacing and poor writing.

Overall, it’s not bad, just very average. Best suited only for viewers who enjoy extremely slow romance.

This anime is hard-carried by the heroine. She's cute, considerate, and a fair bit more forward than the majority of female love interests that you see in anime and manga. She's about the only strong point of this anime, and the only reason I gave it anything higher than a 4.

The protagonist is generic and spineless; it seems that when they designed an original heroine, they didn't think to carry some of that creativity over to the male lead. The romantic development they go through together is rather slow, thanks largely to the protagonist's inability to have even the smallest bit of confidence in most ... situations. I sure love watching episode after episode where the girl does something bold and cute but the guy can't get enough of a grip to reciprocate properly.

Most of the rest of the anime is just random fluff where the protagonist takes care of his two younger siblings. Stuff that, I guess, is supposed to be heartwarming? Maybe it's just me, but I feel like if you put a bunch of childcare scenes in your shounen romance anime, you're just asking for a bad rating. As if there was any need to further dilute the already-rare bits of romance.

Anyway, it's not a horrible show, but it's certainly nothing above mediocre. You can find better shows to watch — don't waste your time.
