Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru

High school student Wakana Gojou spends his days perfecting the art of making hina dolls, hoping to eventually reach his grandfather's level of expertise. While his fellow teenagers busy themselves with pop culture, Gojou finds bliss in sewing clothes for his dolls. Nonetheless, he goes to great lengths to keep his unique hobby a secret, as he believes that he would be ridiculed were it revealed.

Enter Marin Kitagawa, an extraordinarily pretty girl whose confidence and poise are in stark contrast to Gojou's meekness. It would defy common sense for the friendless Gojou to mix with the likes of Kitagawa, who is always surrounded by her peers. However, the unimaginable happens when Kitagawa discovers Gojou's prowess with a sewing machine and brightly confesses to him about her own hobby: cosplay. Because her sewing skills are pitiable, she decides to enlist his help.

As Gojou and Kitagawa work together on one cosplay outfit after another, they cannot help but grow close—even though their lives are worlds apart.

TLDR: REALY nice anime, but this ending didn't need to be like that.

i had fun watching this, and even had some tears in my eyes from time to time.
Great story building (for the most part besides the useless filler episodes).
Characters are nice, and gojo is (while being your typical "oblivious - no clue what's going on here) character / mc, really well made out.

What i DO NOT like is this constant blueballing. This was a VERY disappointing ending?.
Like it took her 4 episodes to build up the courage to say something... and then she just doesn't.
The fact that she hasn't figured ... out after S1 that Gojo is SO OBLIVIOUS to the facts, is rather madning.
I can't lie, i haven't been disappointed in an anime ever at all. But today, i am SO DISSAPOINTED.
I feel like i'm telling my kids that "i ain't mad, am just disappointed", that's the level of WTF are you doing i'm experiencing atm.

Mixed Feelings

A manic pixie dream girl falls into the lap of a lonely loser. She's conventionally attractive, only has eyes for him, and spends her time playing hentai games like she has F95zone as her home page. Yep. Uh huh. Okie dokie. This type of wish fulfillment isn't any more unrealistic than, say, the ability to have literal superpowers shown in many other series. Yet it feels distinctly more pernicious, perhaps because something like super-strength or invincibility is silly enough that we intrinsically know it's a fantasy, while "finding the dream girl" seems like it miiiiight be possible with just a few more Tinder swipes.

The ... protagonist is an annoyingly incompetent fool. His social anxiety is so crippling that it verges on autism, and as such I really have trouble empathizing with him. Moreover, as of season 1 the show is mostly just in "status-quo" mode. Both the guy and the girl want to be in a relationship with each other, but crazy coincidences keep happening to prevent that, like a phone ringing at the exact moment to cut off what was looking like it was going to be a major development moment. Yep, crazy, *crazy* coincidences. Obviously they're contrived by the storywriter so they can extend the blushy-crushy will-they-or-won't-they phase of the relationship.

If the show has one upside, it's that there's no shortage of cute girls. It also tends to be fairly generous with fanservice moments, although I wouldn't call it an outright ecchi as some have. That's not really enough to make this a worthwhile show by itself, though.

At best, this series passes the time.

“Romcom MC Starter Pack: The Socially Inept Potato”

At this point, I’m convinced there’s a secret anime industry rulebook that says:

> “Thou shalt not create a romcom protagonist with basic human communication skills.”

Because seriously, how many times do I have to watch another so-called “male lead” who looks like he just got hit by Windows XP’s Blue Screen of Death the moment a girl makes eye contact?

Every season, without fail, we get another clone:

... Girl says “hi” → MC.exe has stopped working.

Girl shows some skin → error 404: dignity not found.

Girl breathes in his direction → instant blushing nuclear meltdown.

Like bro… you’re not encountering an eldritch horror from another dimension, it’s just a high school girl talking to you. Calm down. I’m introverted too, but I don’t act like I just got hit with a critical hit from Cupid’s Arrow every time someone with long hair asks me what time it is.

And the industry really expects us to “relate” to this? Nah man, if anything it makes me want to file a lawsuit against every writer who thinks social awkwardness = complete brain shutdown. If this is supposed to be “wish fulfillment,” then somewhere out there is a committee of lonely potatoes funding these scripts.

The worst part? The heroines are always top-tier goddesses who, for some inexplicable reason, decide.

“You know what? This stuttering, blushing mess of a human being is exactly the kind of man I want in my life.”

In reality? She’d block him faster than you can say LINE notification.

And what makes it even more painful is that we know better male leads exist. Cid struts around with his delusional confidence like he owns three different realities. Adonis broods like a tragic Byronic hero but still has more backbone than 20 potatoes combined. And Rintaro? My guy looks like a gangster, acts rough around the edges, but at least feels like an actual human being who can have a conversation without spontaneously combusting.

So here’s my humble request to anime writers:

👉 Stop giving us socially inept potatoes.

👉 Stop pretending stuttering = character depth.

👉 Stop selling awkwardness as a personality trait.

Give me a protagonist who at least remembers how to use basic language functions in the presence of a woman. Until then, the only romance I’m committing to is the one between me and the skip button.
