If you ever wanted absolute, definitive proof that Gainax doesn't give a FUCK about their devoted Eva fandom, look no further than this claymation abortion that Gainax actually slapped their approval on. In TV, Movies, or literature I have never seen such a complete disconnect between fans that worship something as an absolute artistic masterpiece, and creators who have such open disdain for their own fans.

Anno and Gainax: "What's that? You want to make a shitty, unfunny, slapstick claymation version of what is a sacred cow for hundreds of thousands of geeks? Go for it! We don't give a fuck! Just take Eva and rape it into oblivion! We honestly couldn't care less, because fuck our fans!"

Each "episode" if you could even call it that is about 2 minutes of a single unfunny joke with Mr. Bill quality claymation figures of the Eva characters. If I was a rabid Eva fan, I don't know how I could watch this and not have my head explode from seeing my sacred baby get sodomized like this. Fortunately, those of us that are true culture snobs don't have this problem. We don't have to worry about Tolstoy selling the rights to his novels so that some escaped mental patients can make claymation SHIT humor versions of them. Petit Eva school almost made me feel bad for the insufferable Eva fanboys...almost.

It's very hard to even begin to describe this series since it's so bizarre and random. Each episode consists of a stand-alone skit that involving various characters in scenes and events that are modeled after the alternate reality Shinji is shown at the end of Neon Genesis Evangelion. All of the episodes parody some aspect of the franchise, such as the characters, and derive humor by putting Evagelion characters in situations so different than normal (for them, anyway).

Since the plots vary so much between episodes, and the show is entirely dependent on humor, it should be no surprise that the quality varies tremendously between episodes. ... One of the funniest ones (so far) is episode 7, which makes fun of Gendo. So far, about half of the episodes have been funny to varying degrees and half are just boring.

The characters are generally pretty funny. Even though they are just caricatures of the ones from the series, they do manage to capture the personalities of originals. The main cast so far includes the three Eva pilots, Gendo, and Eva Unit 01 (who has been reimaged as human sized). There have also been appearances by Kaworu and Misato.

The art and sound are very low grade - the graphics are on par with early PS1/N64 videogames and the sound is below that. However, this only adds to the humor of the series, so even a rating of "fair" isn't a bad thing. There isn't a translation to worry about as there is no spoken dialog or any text to read. Anything that needs to be communicated to the viewers is done by pictures in a character's speech/though balloons.

When all is said and done, E@S probably isn't going to be the type of anime that you sit down and watch the entire run of at once. The style simply doesn't lend itself to that type of viewing. It is however, more than entertaining enough to watch at least once and then to go back and rewatch your favorite episodes.

Needless to say, Petit Eva: Evangelion@School defined my personality and changed my life. Before I watched this anime, I really didn't know what living was really like, but Hideaki Anno's masterful work on this anime really allowed me to understand myself and the world around me in much better ways and has left me with infinite questions after watching about psychology and the spirit.

Story: 10

The story is near the bible-tier quality of story-telling and masterful world-building. Episode 1 started the anime off strong, showcasing the duality of man versus machine. While man must eat food to survive, machines must eat batteries, and life must prosper ... as such. Philosophical questions such as these continue into the anime's runtime, and I really started to ponder the nature of the human experience thanks to this series. When Shinji, our reluctant but brave protagonist gets a massive load of crap dumped on him, it was actually a metaphor for creation of man, and how god rested on the 7th day, declared sunday. Needless to say, this is a masterpiece in storytelling.

Art: 10

The mix of traditional hand-drawn backgrounds combined with modern, gorgeous CGI animation makes this anime a real treat to the eyes. The combat between Gendo and Misato was something that I could've never imagined being as beautiful as it is. For this review, I tried hard not to compare this masterpiece to the filth that is Neon Genesis Evangelion but, it's a simple fact that animation on the berserker mode on Unit 01 in this anime is unbelievably just jaw-dropping compared to the stinky trash that is Neon Genesis's "beserk" interpretation. Clearly, Hideaki Anno knew what he was doing.

Sound: 10

From the very minute I heard the opening theme song, I knew that I was soon to be immersed in a world of auditory pleasure. The sound design in this beautiful anime is just amazing. It really makes me feel like I'm actually there, inside Unit 01 while he's cleaning the floors. The audio is unbelievable, and this extends to the voice acting. The VA is able to break the language barrier, and I can confidently say that I watched this anime without subtitles and still understood everything that they were trying to convey with no Japanese knowledge. The dedication of the EVA voice actors in this anime was incredible.

Character: 10

Oh my god. I don't even know where to start. Asuka's character is the deepest in this show by far, but the other 3 rei characters also get extremely deep character development. This is yet another example of how this anime really beats out Neon Genesis in every way. Shinji by far proved to really redeem himself in this anime. Although in the original, disgusting filth that's known as Neon Genesis, Shinji acts like a whiney little kid, in this anime Shinji has really redeemed himself, and although he has a bad past, he's moved beyond and it really accepts who he is. It's also shown that Shinji is a real puller of women now, something that I think really fit his character. As seen in the biking episode, Shinji is able to get both Rei AND Unit 01 (who is, in the canon, technically a woman) to ride on his bike with him. This is redemption to who he is, and a beautiful sign of what's to come.

Watching this anime really brought me closer to god. I can't say anything other than Petit Eva: Evangelion@School could be better because this anime really represents how I truly feel, and will always be an inspiration for me in my future projects. I hope to go into the anime industry producing a masterpiece someday like this anime.

Absolutely stunning.

I never suspected myself to rate something with 1's across the board.

I don't even have to get into detail. The biggest question is: Who is this for? A child could watch it, but then they'd be interested in NGE, and I don't think a child should watch NGE. So, in that respect, it's inappropriate to introduce a child to this ONA. And, since it's not appropriate for children, it's easy to see how this definitely isn't for adults. I mean, it's just bad.

Not even going to break down each category. Just trust my 1-rating for each category and avoid this.

I finally got around to watching the two DVDs of the "Puchi EVA - Evangelion School" box set. This is a set of 3D CG chibi character stories based upon the characters from EVA, but set in a junior high. The collection is from Star Child, KIBA 91633-4, and consists of a "Nice Rainbow Disc" DVD with 9 short episodes, and a "Xebec Disc" with 15 short episodes. The total time of the material is 134 minutes. The box set was released on March 3, 2009. There are TV ads for the series on both discs, as well as interviews with the creative teams, and ... some rather unique "making of" shorts on the "Nice Rainbow" episodes, and music videos of the opening and closing theme songs on the "Xebec" disc. The box also came with a little model of EVA 1 in its "Evanchou" form, along with a number of accessories, including a Gurren-Lagann drill. (Gainax will be Gainax…)

The best way for me to describe the series is: EVA meets Dr. Slump, directed by Mamoru Oshii, inspired by Chuck Jones, and set in an out-of-control Second Life world. The "Nice Rainbow" episodes are fairly straightforward gag-comedy shorts. The episode where Misato-sensei attempts to wake up a sleeping Shinji in class by throwing chalk is probably my favorite and it channels some of the best of the old Looney Toons escalating "battle" cartoons from the 40s and 50s. The episodes on the "Xebec" disc are much stranger, and at times are profoundly disturbing, but are never-the-less quite interesting thanks to their added depth.

If you liked EVA you really ought to look up these short animations. You don't have to search for subtitled versions because there is no dialog, only music and sound effects. If you haven't seen EVA you should skip "Evangelion School" because it won't make much sense in that case. All-in-all I found it to be an interesting, sometimes intriguing, often hilarious, and always challenging set of little stories.

Do you want to watch hollow caricatures of your favorite eva pilots getting shit on, again and again, until they're unrecognizable monsters?
No, I'm not taking a jab at the Rebuild series, I am asking you a genuine question: Do you want to see Shinji Ikari literally covered in feces?

My relationship with this ONA starts a few years ago in Akihabara. I was burning time at a second-hand store, looking for nothing in particular. Rummaging through a clearance bin, I stumbled across a chibi Asuka figure in a box ... labeled "Evangelion@School" and priced at ¥400. I looked up the figure and found it going for a lot more on auction sites so, of course, I bought it.

Now, listen. I'm not a big fan of cutesy things, but a deal is a deal, and like my father and his father before him, I'm a sucker for a good deal. Years later, on this very day, I watched Petit Eva and have come to regret my purchase.

Shinji is just a normal boy. He is not the "hedgehog" that we've come to know and love (or love to hate).
Asuka is feisty and Rei is quiet - that's about it.
Evangelion Unit 01 is a Bansho, booger-flinging schoolboy for no particular reason.
Kaworu shows up as a friendly, bed-sheet ghost.
This is all understandable, given how this is (assumedly) a gag anime for children, but Evangelion isn't exactly a child friendly franchise so I don't feel comfortable with this spin-off conceptually.

Also, Gendo is portrayed as a voyeuristic hebephile with romantic and sexual feelings for Rei, in a world in which he is her principal and his wife is still alive. Do with that info what you will.

As for the technical aspects of the spin-off: the cgi, animation, and music are all sub-par, and there is no voice acting. The jokes are, for the most part, not funny; a single frame in the final episode made me chuckle, but it wasn't worth the slog.

I give Petit Eva 1s all around.
If you want to see Shinji become Shit-ji, watch episode 1.
If you want a serviceable End of Evangelion joke, watch episode 24.
If you value your time in the slightest, watch no more.

eva petit is the best thing since sliced bread. this show changed my life forever and i will forever be indebted to it. the characterizations for everyone was by far the best thing i have ever witnessed. this show should be displayed in a museum to forever be engraved into society. i believe this is the REAL evangelion, and it is certainly MY evangelion.

i believe wholeheartedly that shinji being shat on repeatedly has a deeper meaning, and hideaki anno would be proud of this masterpiece. watching the daily lives of rei's family has been a truly eye opening experience. i wish i could have ... my memory erased or suffer severe brain damage so i could watch this show again for the first time. thank you Petit Eva: Evangelion@School, i will cherish you for as long as my soul remains in this universe.

This is much better than people credit it for. Especially as a parody which brings its own funny take to the series. It's easy to see why it's hated on - when you think Evangelion your first thought is "deeper meaning" or "complex psychological symbolism." But this is a different take, a take which was revealed to be possible in episode 26 of the original series.

Its OKAY to have a silly version of Evangelion. No, the series doesn't have to be "the true Evangelion." Word of advice - watch this with some family or friends who don't know anything about the franchise - it's much ... more fun that way.

This show is far from a masterpiece and has major deficits in the graphics, sound, and pacing departments, but who cares? You should see this for what it is, a silly string of comedic shorts that are enjoyable, funny takes on the characters. Some of the ideas they have in here, such as the three rei's living together, or Unit 01 being a jock that fights bully angels for Shinji, or Kaworu being a stalker who dresses up in a ghost costume and is always watching, are genuinely ingenious concepts that work in their own way. So, just enjoy it for what it is, at least it's not Schick x Evangelion.

I mean I hate Evangelion already as many of you “lovely” people out there know and have responded with such “lovely” words in a manner befitting a human. So colour me surprised that this exists to basically just reinforce my justified hatred of the series. Why does it exist? No reason. Does it need to exist? No. Do I like it for existing? Yes. Why? It pissed off the fans who made my life a misery for many years and revenge is just sweet. I can rest easy knowing Anno has left this franchise far behind him to focus on bigger and better efforts, seriously, ... Shin Ultraman and Shin Kamen Rider can't come soon enough.

This series follows the lovable cast of the Evangelion series which will compel any fan to at least be curios of these shorts but I must warn you to stay away.

I can excuse the poor CG if the narratives was good, however I am often left confused at what I have just watched and what is actually going on which is not helped by the lack of dialogue. Each episodes is around 3 minutes long and consists of a very random sketch such as Shinji and Unit 01 fighting over who can get Rei on their bicycles as they ride to school, this series ... has NO plot connection to the original so can be safely skipped.

The main question I am leaving myself with these shorts is why was it made and who are they for.

Seriously, what is this? I was looking for maybe a funny side-story for Eva and at first it seemed like a nice slice-of-life side story Do you want to see an unfunny scat joke be put on the first episode? Do you want to see animation quality so bad Berserk 2016 looks like a 10/10? Look no further than this, I haven't watched the first episode fully and the humor was just completely stupid and out-of-pocket If there was a 0 option I'd give it one for how horrible this is

I wish this was never made, from what I've heard from other reviews ... and even the reviews say its complete garbage and all it is is a distaste to those who ACTUALLY LIKED EVANGELION

It's incredible how bad this anime is. Mini-character spin-offs are usually nothing remarkable, but they're not particularly bad either. At most, you can expect short jokes and simple plots to pass the time. On the other hand, Petit Eva delivers tasteless and incredibly poor humor (there are even poop jokes). Sometimes there aren’t even actual jokes, just generic situations that aren’t funny at all. As if that weren’t enough, some episodes recycle plots by showing them from other perspectives.

As for the cast, there's nothing to say. They're the same characters from Evangelion, but here they obviously lack depth and development. There are no dialogues actually.

Visually, ... the anime features clumsy 3D animation, environments that look like they’re straight out of an old video game, and many textures that look downright awful. As if that weren’t enough, the series uses blank models with identical faces for background characters. This may have been intentional for comedic purposes, but it only accentuates the show's poor production quality.

The soundtrack ranges from awful to generic, with perhaps a few redeemable tracks. Additionally, there are some overly strange tracks (both in instrumentation and composition) that feel completely out of place in their respective scenes.

Personally, I find Petit Eva to be a uniquely astonishing case. This anime had an extremely simple goal, yet it still manages to fail in every possible way. I wouldn’t call it the worst anime ever made, but it certainly ranks among the worst.

The series is a parody of Neon Genesis Evangelion, in which the entire cast of the original series are now everyday students going to junior high school together at Tokyo-3. The series features three "Rei sisters": one is a child younger than the rest based on "Rei 1", the second is based on "Rei 2" (the Rei seen for most of the normal series), and the third Rei is actually based on the hyperactive and klutzy "Alternate Rei" (the Rei seen in the alternate-reality dream sequence from the final episode of the original series). Additionally, Evangelion Unit-01 itself is one of their classmates, but this ... time as a human-sized robot.


This show was an absolute masterpiece of a parody, all the characters were nothing short of hilarious, truly an incredible masterpiece work of art that will forever go down in anime history. This show IS deeper than real eva lore, actually, this IS the eva that anno intended. Hideaki Anno created this as his real vision, but, if this is not the real eva, it does not matter. It is the real eva in my heart. This is the greatest eva timeline, and no other eva timeline can compare to the ingenuity that is Eva Petit.

this is like if evangelion's budget was spent on illegal substances instead of actual stuff, it has it's funny moments but despite being a comedy it's mostly from how absurd it is or the kinda low quality of the models

if they made this but in the style of the art used to promote it and had a larger budget (if that's the reason behind how it looks), the show would be much better

still recommending since from my knowledge of evangelion (which is almost entirely from memes), this is both the most wholesome and child friendly piece of evangelion media, so if you either don't want ... depression, or want a kid to know who shinji is, show em this.

jokes aside what were they even thinking when they made this, they were onto something
