Uramichi Oniisan

In the studio of the morning childrens' show "Together with Mama," a crew of miserable adults prepares their facades of amicable smiles and cheerful exteriors to educate a group of innocent preschoolers. In the middle of it stands Uramichi Omota, a former gymnast who can't help but bring the kids down to earth by revealing the harsh and depressing reality of adulthood, even in front of the rolling cameras.

Behind the scenes, Uramichi's much-desired peace is disturbed by his two bothersome juniors who work as the show's rabbit and bear mascots and singers: Utano Tadano, a woman who only wishes to get married; and Iketeru Daga, a handsome man with a crass sense of humor. From smoking and exercising to nihilistic outbursts, everyone's big brother Uramichi always brings up the not-so-moral side to his life lessons.

Adult. Humor. And existential dread. Presented at in anime children. In the form of an aired television show.

Do you hate your job? This anime will speak to you in ways you won't believe. With a cast of characters ranging from "I hate my existance but I need money" to "I have the morally just one with the humor of a ten year old" and everything in between. I really cannot state more. It's multipart segments with ... oddly real life lessons like I would give my small siblings.

Watch at your own digression. But, save it for depressive episodes.


The dub is phenomenal. ... It serves all the purposes.

Mixed Feelings

This is a hard one to write but definitely give this a watch if youre a seiota (seiyuu otaku) like me lol. In the anime we got hella loads of famous seiyuus (check above), but ofc the plot is not all that impressive. I did get a few good laugh or two but that's it. Nothing special about this but if you're bored and have nothing else to watch like me, yeah you can watch it to waste your time but if you're looking for something meaningful, there's not much to find in this anime tbh. I wouldn't really classify it as SoL tbh cause ... there's not much character depth and development, the plot doesnt really go anywhere and the humor is sometimes there, sometimes not really.

Normally I'm not picky about the type of shows I watch but this was really boring for me. Uramichi Oniisan has an interesting concept, but unfortunately, it didn’t fully work for me. The idea of a children’s show host who is secretly burnt out and emotionally exhausted is relatable and has a lot of potential. However, the execution ended up feeling repetitive, which made the series drag after a while.

The only two things I like are the Bunny Mascots anf the Ending song. Other than that, he jokes and dialogue often relied on the same depressing or cynical lines about adulthood, which lost their impact ... over time.

The anime isn’t necessarily bad, but it becomes predictable. Each episode follows a similar pattern: a setup involving the children’s show, followed by another reminder of how exhausting and meaningless adult life can feel. That kind of humor can work really well, but because it rarely changes or develops, it starts to feel stale rather than funny. What’s disappointing is that the plot itself is genuinely interesting. With more variety, stronger character development, or a shift in tone, the series could have been much more engaging. Instead, it sticks too closely to the same formula, making the overall experience feel flat.

Overall, Uramichi Oniisan has its moments and a strong premise, but the repetitive structure and overused jokes made it boring for me. It’s worth trying if you enjoy dark humor, but it may not appeal to everyone.
