Claymore

When a shapeshifting demon with a thirst for human flesh, known as "youma," arrives in Raki's village, a lone woman with silver eyes walks into town with only a sword upon her back. She is a "Claymore," a being manufactured as half-human and half-youma, for the express purpose of exterminating these monsters. After Raki's family is killed, the Claymore saves his life, but he is subsequently banished from his home. With nowhere else to go, Raki finds the Claymore, known as Clare, and decides to follow her on her journeys.

As the pair travel from town to town, defeating youma along the way, more about Clare's organization and her fellow warriors comes to light. With every town cleansed and every demon destroyed, they come closer to the youma on which Clare has sought vengeance ever since she chose to become a Claymore.

" Poor Man berserk "
Claymore is a saga which describes a great demon hunter fantasy with likeable characters and an intriguing atmosphere. This is the kind of show that can be over in one sitting. The flow that makes a anime watchable is perfect here , it has a natural progression that can allow viewers to get lost in depth .

This is my 2nd re watch in a while , my memories are still fresh like how I managed to watch this in VHS era . The story is centered on a mysterious organization that controls warriors named claymore who ... hunts yoma , at first you might think they are doing social service but in reality they manipulating from shadows for alter motives . The world that claymore builds is dark, depressing and brutal. The monsters are terrifying and a normal person has almost 0 hope of defeating one . Overall pacing is good which allowed to develop characters .

The fucked up thing is that producers were eager to animate it even when source material was unfinished so , ending might disappoint you . You can read manga after ep 23 .

Mixed Feelings

Often compared to other dark-fantasy anime like Berserk, it contains superficial similarities but none of the substance. On the surface, there is a feudal European setting and both series concern the exploits of stoic mercenaries who fight demons. Sadly, Claymore carries none of the interesting political maneuvering or the complicated relationship dynamics informed by trauma. Instead, it decides to focus on a more straightforward plot-structure concerning a half-human/demon heroine who must rise to the challenge to fight increasingly stronger monsters and control her demonic impulses. A route like this is acceptable if the show displays strong animation, fight choreography and a sense of strategy. Regrettably, ... it tends to use lots of still frames and repeats cuts of animation. After a while, the repetition gets boring and contributes to a tedious finale.

It's a very shonen/action-focused anime. There really isn't much story nor anything meaningful explored beyond a series of mindless fights between various combinations of claymore warrior women and human-eating demon monsters. It never actually goes anywhere and just sort of reaches the end of the season still climbing that ladder as bait for the manga.
The characters are barely allowed to have any presence beyond rehashing brain-damaging exposition/narration/peptalks and their 1-note character traits. The closest it comes to having actual characters in an arc gets unceremoniously cut through extreme contrivance. The plot armor is everywhere with pretty much every fight being nonsensical asspulls of more and ... more powers being thrown in on top of the power of tryharding/friendship/love/etc to win from start to finish.
To be fair, as far as generic action-shonen go you could do much worse. At least this has some grittiness to it.

3/10 (where 5/10 is average)
