I am beginning to see the use of troops on the streets as a political folly. We all understand that the lack of murders and crime is temporary (take the troops away and the mayhem ensues), so if it can be timed right, the troops can be retracted and the crime goes nuts at just the right point…useful to sway voters. Even the die hard libtards would notice that things were better with troops on the corners and think, “perhaps my democrat mayor really is stupid”. This could be a Republican ploy in the end.
The other possibility is social conditioning…getting the public used to seeing a military force on American streets, in preparation for something worse in the future.

Like stop and frisk, the idea of troops patrolling American soil seems legally and constitutionally dodgy at best, but somehow when it comes to blacks… mysteriously effective. Hmm, why is that?

Which simply underscores the real-politik fact that in actual terms, troops on the ground in Black territory are in fact troops deployed on what is effectively foreign soil. What the Washington, D.C. National Guard action has shown is that levels of impulsive crime and organized youth gang activity are so high in these communities that this incessant criminal disorder can be kept under control only through the means a permanent low-level military occupation over an above the presence of normal community policing.

There is, of course, nothing special about Washington, D.C. that makes it any different than any other city with a large lower-strata black population being in a blue state or a red state.This fact (and it is one) makes the smary claim by some Democratic politicians that crime is higher in the red states than in the blue states particularly disgusting. The counter by conservative media personalities that the red state crime occurs in the blue run cities within them just about as dishonest. You have to ask, what makes a blue city blue. And what about the few cities that do not have these gargantuan crime rates, many of them also with Democratic mayors, Democratic city councils and Democrats representing them in the state capital and in Congress?

There is something different about these lower-strata black communities compared to white immigrant communities of the era between the Civil War and World War II. These communities were gangster run too. The difference was, the white ethnic gangsters did not like street crime or predatory crime and, after charging the local merchants their protection money, they were able to suppress street crime. The immigrant gangs ran their rackets but they also gave their communities and their own kind some political clouts and a little protection against the social, cultural and economic forces willing to grind their communities down. They also kept the inevitable rackets organized and therefore out of the faces of the mainstream community.

Can black gangs do the same thing in their communities, or have they ever? The answer is, no way. What the Trump administration’s action in Washington, D.C. has proven in that a low level military occupation will work. What we don’t know is whether it would work in the long run or not. If bad blood developed between the National Guard and the communities and it led to actual skirmishing, that would be pretty serious. Then there is the question of whether higher levels of traditional policing would work. Maybe the presence of actual military units is a more effective way of getting people to chill out and just not do it.

We live part-time in Eastern Beaufort County, SC. All the ethnics live in the Burton Community west of Downtown Beaufort. The others (mostly Geechees) live out on St. Helena Island. Both are the murder capitals of our county. The few blacks on Coosaw Island are quite tame.
