Fifteen-year-old Leah is thought to have drowned when she was out in the ocean one night. Her mother later discovers that Leah may have been involved with an older man and she’s determined to find out who that man was. I really didn’t like the victim, Leah, at all, and I had absolutely no sympathy for her and didn’t care what happened to her. She was supposed to be a raving beauty and everyone loved her. Unfortunately, what Leah had in looks, she lacked in brains and common sense. She did so many incredibly stupid things and I was tired of people using her age as an excuse for her stupidity and bad choices when she knew exactly what she was doing. I thought this book would be full of suspense, but for the most part it was suspenseless and alternated between boring and annoying with too much teen drama. Definitely not for me....more

FBI Agent Rylie Wolf is transferred from the Seattle office to a new FBI unit to work the Highway Thru Hell killings. Rylie also must work with a partner, FBI Agent Michael Brisbane, and she’s not too happy about this since she prefers to work alone.
This was such an enjoyable suspense story. Rylie is a bit too headstrong, abrasive, and her methods are unorthodox, but she sure is determined to catch the killer. Her partner Michael is more personable and it’s fun watching him try to figure Rylie out. I really liked the setting on a deserted stretch of highway. It was an interesting change from the usual serial killer books I read and it really created a creepy and chilling atmosphere....more

Katharine’s sixteen-year-old son, Michael, who has asthma, is being bullied in school so she decides that now might be a good time to leave New York and head for Hawaii. Unfortunately, Hawaii may not be the paradise they were hoping for when strange, unexplained things begin happening.
I enjoyed this book so much. I was so into it and couldn’t wait to see what would happen next. The story had a really interesting cast of characters from the people Katharine worked with to the boys that Michael befriended on Maui. The Hawaiian setting was fantastic with wonderful descriptions. So atmospheric with the volcanoes, the lava flowing, the malevolent feel in the air. I enjoyed the scuba dives; the place where Katharine was working. Such a thoroughly entertaining read....more

While there, all doesn’t go as planned and along the way Ashley goes missing. I thought this book had an interesting premise, but unfortunately that couldn’t save it from the completely unlikable and selfish cast of characters. The story was filled with constant bickering and arguing amongst the three “friends” (who it was hard to believe were ever friends to begin with). I only persevered through this story because I was interested enough to find out what happened to Ashley, but too much negativity and fighting just made this a tiresome read....more

UnappealA disappointing read with a very misleading synopsis. It read more like a young-adult novel than the suspense book that I was led to believe. Unappealing and unlikable lead characters (Hailey, Beth, and Jonny) who I never cared about. Very little suspense or action (what little there was, was saved for the end). The story dragged on and on between the points-of-views of Hailey and Beth, neither of whom I liked. The killer and any ongoing investigation was barely there. It was a real struggle to finish this one. The only bright spot was the dog named Wolf, but unfortunately Wolf alone couldn't save this slow-going and disappointing read....more

Had it not been for the unanswered questions that remained at the end of Night Sins, I probably would have DNF-ed this one. The book was far too long and the story just kind of meandered along. The new characters introduced in Guilty as Sin didn’t do much for me. Prosecutor Ellen North was okay, but romantic interest Jay Butler Brooks, who was a true crime writer, didn’t appeal to me at all. He was arrogant, pushy, annoying, and boring. The characters that I found interesting in Night Sins didn’t have as much to do in this one and kind of faded into the background. The best part of the story were the courtroom scenes which I wish there had been more of. The overlength of the book though, pretty much killed it for me. It would have worked better if everything had wrapped up in Night Sins. I really enjoyed Night Sins a lot, but Guilty as Sin was just an okay read....more

What really made the book was the interesting cast of characters which allowed for many potential suspects. I liked the setting of Deer Lake, a town where everyone seems to know everyone else’s business. The harsh weather conditions with extremely frigid temperatures added a good, bleak atmosphere to the story. The only disappointment was that the story didn’t completely wrap-up by the end. It continues in the follow-up book, Guilty as Sin....more

On top of that, she’s now working with homicide lieutenant Conor Rafferty, who just happens to be her ex-boyfriend.
This was such an enjoyable romantic suspense/police procedural novel. It had a great cast of characters. I especially liked Caro’s and Conor’s good friend (who is a priest) who later became their number one suspect, Father Clancy Donovan. I really enjoyed the investigation into the murders and the interactions between the cops and detectives working the case. I thought I had the killer pegged and I ended up being so wrong. I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I loved the setting with the rundown mansion and surrounding property which included the family cemetery. It provided a terrific atmosphere for the story. There was such a colorful cast of characters, so well written, all with distinct personalities. Sarah’s family was interesting in that they were so unbelievably messed up, not only in the present day but also back in time throughout the family history. The ending was awesome. Heroine Phoebe MacNamara is a single mother to seven-year-old Carly and she’s a top hostage negotiator. I liked that she’s a very strong heroine, has a very interesting profession, and I liked how she really held her family together. Her mother Essie is agoraphobic and never leaves the house. Essie is still traumatized by a break-in from years ago where an ex-boyfriend held her and her two children hostage for hours, an event that also set the path for Phoebe's career choice. Duncan Swift was such a fabulous hero. He won millions on the lottery and he owns a number of sports bars, and is working on other business ventures. He was such an all-around good guy, and I loved how he really took to Phoebe’s family. He was so kind, caring, and considerate towards them, and really made everyone feel special. The Savannah, Georgia, setting and the house where Phoebe lived with her family really added to the atmosphere with vivid descriptions. Add to that, lots of edge-of-your-seat suspense and this made for an extremely entertaining and captivating read....more
