STEVE LUKATHER

Word is out that Steve Lukather is indeed working with Alex Van Halen on an album, which is very exciting. Loads of stuff with Eddie Van Halen exists and could be part of all this. And both Steve and Wolfgang Van Halen (should he be involved) are good singers. And who would say no to participate? Looking forward to this very much.

IAN GILLAN

There is a film online about an organisation called B Sharp Music that is supported by Ian Gillan, with a bunch of kids being allowed to see everything backstage (and a show) with Deep Purple. You can find it on the B Sharp Music YouTube channel, titled as “Ian Gillan & B Sharp – Between Hard Rock & A Beautiful Place”. I do love to see stars giving back, and it is easy to see that Ian is enjoying himself very much.

HAGANE

Japanese rockers Hagane dropped a video today in support of the current tour that features scenes from the road. It is called “Full Album Release Tour (Top Of The Tower)”. Very nice.

(My shot of Steve Lukather, B Sharp Music/Gillan and Hagane images are screenshots from said videos, no malice intended)

Things are happening in Babymetal land. The feedback for the new version of “Headbanger!!” is very positive. For starters, it is nice to see just them in a video again, and not yet another collaboration thing. Also, to see them acknowledge their history and to make it in such an iconic way is really nice. They do spectacular videos and this just happens to be an all time classic rocker that goes way back in their history. A reminder of how good they were right out of the gate. I would like to see them release a full blown album in 2026 with retakes on old stuff. Why not? Some of the songs they performed live in the early days did not even end up on an album. And why not stick a Karen Girl´s song in there, just to show a bit of history (and Babymetal has performed “Over The Future” live in the early days at least once). A 15th Anniversary release would be a nice addition in time for the 2026 World Tour and it would highlight a journey that is still very much ongoing. New fans are coming in all the time and it is always a good idea to keep things moving. Imagine a 15th Anniversary album with a bonus DVD/Blu-ray with classic live takes from their career. How could that not be a great idea. And I really like the cover of the “Headbanger!!” single, that would (or a similar variant) certainly work just fine for a compilation of sorts. Well, we shall see.

The last two copies that has been auctioned off recently of the 1982 220 Volt debut single “Prisoner Of War”/”Sauron” has been sold for 1,700+ svenska kronor (about 183+ Dollars, 137+ Pounds or 155+ Euro), so I guess that is just about the current worth for it at this moment. Prices has been high for years and it is rare to see a copy. The single has been bootlegged as the original run of 500 copies sold out within a week or two back in the day (I can not remember the exact details today, it has been over 40 years). My copy is not numbered as I was part of the inner circle back then. Good times.

(My shots of my copy of said single, some of the shots on the back of the single was taken by me / Thanks Kalle for the info on these auctions)

We have got some good stuff coming up. First we have a digital rerelease of the 2004 Saeko debut album “Above Heaven, Below Heaven” (with added live takes from her appearance at Wacken) this week. Then we have Capitol Records releasing a Vinyl single (coloured) with studio and live (O2 in London) versions of “From Me To U” (featuring Poppy) in late January.

BABYMETAL

Babymetal performed at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City yesterday to 17,000 people, with the exact same show set-up as the recent Intuit Dome concert (in Los Angeles) a week ago. I guess we might get a two DVD/Blu-ray set out of it. We shall see. Also, it has been announced that Babymetal has had over two billion hits on Spotify now, which is pretty darned good.

STRYPER

Christian rockers Stryper has a new album out called “The Greatest Gift Of All” on November 21.

YUNGBLUD

Three 2026 Grammy Awards nominations for Yungblud, Best Live Performance with “Changes” at the Ozzy/Black Sabbath gig at Villa Park back in July (with Nuno Bettencourt and others), “Idols” as Best Rock Album and “Zombie” as Best Rock Song. I think the Ozzy/Sabbath gig nailed it for him.

SAMMY HAGAR

Sammy Hagar has released a Double live CD called “The Residency” that features tracks from his entire career. Pretty good song list. Keeping the lagacy alive.

Well I have said this before but it is getting to be pretty obvious that Babymetal are the Queens of the European festival circuit. The Copenhell Festival in Copenhagen (Denmark) has now been added to a fast growing list of major gigs in Europe next year. The date is set for June 27 2026.

ZILQY

Japanese rockers Zilqy has signed up with digital platform Blood Blast Distribution (part of Nuclear Blast records), so they will be an international act right out of the gate. At least this is how I read it. In Japan, they are signed to the Maverick label. We shall see if the debut EP “Vacant Throne” pops up outside of Japan in early November.

JAM PROJECT FEATURING BABYMETAL

The third season of Japanese anime show “One Punch Man” sports a theme song titled “Get No Satisfied!” by Jam Project in collaboration with Babymetal. CD release in Japan is planned for November 12.

CAMERON CROWE

Film maker and former rock journalist (think “Almost Famous”) Cameron Crowe will publish the first of two books about his life in late October. Titled “The Uncool – A Memoir” it is likely to be a pretty good read.

Jämtland County Cavalry memorial stone, located where the base was from 1661 to 1892 close to what is now Frösö Airport on the Island of Frösön. This regiment waged war in Norway, Germany, Russia and other countries during its existance. I did my stint in the Swedish Air Force in the early 1980s at this very place. There is a lot of history in these parts.

Nice Trip

Posted: September 21, 2025 in Jämtland (County), My photographs

Jämtland County (Sweden) is a cool place and yesterday myself and a friend made a trip with a couple of visitors around these parts and we looked at some interesting places. Here is the view of Östersund from the Island of Frösön. Seen below is the old church at Frösön, built on a site of similar significance from the viking era. The old churches are beautiful. I will showcase a few more things in the next few days on this blog.

(My shots from said trip)

It has been a full decade since I published the final fanzine publication (Retrofuture 8) and I am quite happy that it ended on a high note. It was a wonderful hobby.
