Front Porch Chats...

Linking back to missing (grin) Monica (grin).

Before I get started, just wanted to say thank you for the kind comments to which I did not get to yesterday. When we got home and I posted, I decided to stick my nose in a book and sit in the chair by above window and I also hung out 3 loads of laundry which dried in no time really. And to answer some of your comments:

--Nope, not ever moving back to NY. That chapter is closed. IF we go anywhere, it will be closer to the coast. NOT that I see that happening due to the high cost of everything.

--Breaking bad Linda out of kindness jail just might happen (grin). I just realized that statement is kind of oxymoronic, LOLOL.

--Hubby said he would handle the mobile home place when he gets home which is projected for Wed. the latest.

--Yes, the job is going well...I like it, it's just mentally tiring after a while.

--I shall refrain from my thoughts about the ac off overnight...to me it takes more energy costs to turn it back on and cool the house...but it is not my house. So, my mouth stays shut.

I spy with my little eyes 2 bunnies in the front yard. The other one is near the bushes.

Time: 7:10 am

Scene: 73*, humidity is 99%, dew point 73*. yeah...a little bit soupy out there.

Drinking: my first Keurig cup with Italian Creamer.

Listening to: Nothing much...the fan is on, and hubby just called to say hello and good morning. Kim is talking to the animals and our dog is included in that conversation. ((grin))

Watching: Nothing much I did get caught up on my YouTube videos last night:

Parisian Farmgirl

Appalachia Homestead

Monky werx

Southern Prepper

I also listened to some music.

What's for dinner? We have leftover pizza, so prob. that.

Randomness: I have to get around and head out to Walmart and get some things for my lunch, dog food and some other things. Kim said she didn't want to go-so it will be just me. I really don't like going places by myself...I am simply not that comfortable driving here yet. I use not be that way--going places by myself. Oh well...it is what it is.

Hope you all have a beautiful, blessed week.

Meme Filled Saturday

You know, I had good intentions of posting this week... but the husbands (mine and Kim's) left for Ohio Tuesday (to pick up another Harley Davidson) and this week was just busy...so here we go (and thank you for the kind comments).

Welcome to another Tuesday 4 by Toni Taddeo.

Let's talk about light, okay? You light up my life... shine a light in the darkness, Miller Light. All kinds of light but how about at home?

1. Are you afraid of the dark? Is night or day your favorite time?

Not afraid of the dark, but my dad drilled into my head when I was younger that nothing good comes out of being out at nighttime.

2. Do you have night lights in your home?

Since we are staying with friends...Kim has several that she keeps on. So, yeah.

3. How low do you set your air conditioning?  Do you adjust it through the day?

It's not my house...they keep it 78-79* and yes, it's warm. And no, they don't adjust it and at night she turns it off.

4. Do you keep any outdoor or indoor lights on all night?

They have lights that automatically come on. Again, not my house...we live out in the country, just my opinion, but don't need no stinking outdoor lights, just saying.

1. According to author Gary Chapman there are five love languages-words of affirmation, quality time, physical touch, acts of service, and receiving gifts. Which one is yours?

Quality time ---life is short and too bad it took our sons passing to realize this. And on that thought, quality time was given--ALOT of it...and now it's just the two us...

2. What are five foods you eat every day?

Everyday? I take a ham sandwich on rye, pretzels, cookies (or whatever) for my lunch and crackers for a mid-morning snack before lunch. I know, that is only 4. But since its so hot here, I only eat 2 meals a day.

3. Five places you'd love to visit?

Can't we just say the beach? Yeah, the beach can count as 5. ((grin))

4. Something you've done recently that deserved a 'high five'?

I have been catching a few mistakes at work --when prisoners come in, they go through a process; there have been quite a few mistakes that would allow them to get out early. Big no no (the mistakes). We're human and make mistakes but these mistakes, are big and costly.

5.  Give us five 5-letter words that describe your July.

How can I use 5 letter words?

whizz

abuzz

tizzy

jeeze

zippy

6. Insert your own random thought here.

So, Kim and I went to the mobile home place this morning to see if our paperwork was ready yet to sign... one excuse after another. So, I called my husband and told him he better have a backup plan, because I am done. D.O.N.E. Put a fork in it, I am done with fooling around. NO ONE is in a hurry to do anything. One excuse after another---they have been putting us off for 2 weeks now. I think the good Lord is like, I have the plan you don't people. So, there we are. My gut is telling me enough is enough and I am very uncomfortable with this feeling of the unknown.

On another front, I am still enjoying the very hot & humid weather...my hair doesn't like it--but oh well. I see all these memes about the fall season, and I laugh...

Yeahhhhhhhhhhh...something tells me that's not going to happen here in Florida ((grin)).

Tues. & Wed. Meme...

Good morning from a sticky Florida. Again, apologies for not being around much. By the time I get home from work at 5:30 I just want to crash. Not that it is a physically demanding job, but it does require tons of brain functioning and wit.

Let's inquire about stuff....

1. What gets your blood to boiling?

Presently, the sad shape we are in as a Nation while the leaders stay fat, rich and such...oh and liars...I can't stand liars.

2.What does a really good day look like for you? What makes you say, "That was a great day"?

Every day is a great day; the good Lord wakes me up and I get to make or try to set things right etc.

3. Are you continuing to grow mentally, spiritually, talent wise or are you just marking time?

Sometimes I feel it's just marking time; NO ONE is in a hurry to do anything here in Florida AND I can't relax enough to just sit idly by...on the other hand, my research /education skills have really come in handy at work. We usually have 20-30 intakes (inmates) a day and each of those folders/commitments have to be gone through completely and I have caught many mistakes from the Transfer and Release side of things. NOT that I am looking for brownie points, but folks, get it right; ex. on the computer it might say 1 yr. term, but the court papers say otherwise. It practically takes a congressional amendment to get it changed. That is where my wit comes in...as I have to call down to T&R ---let's just say add a little sugar to your words...and respect goes both ways. I have been told they rather deal with me than the other 2 in the office. And sometimes I even have to walk down--thru many other gates and pass inmates...my day is def. full of adventure and never boring.

Spiritually--the good Lord sure is patient with me...and it's something I need to learn.

4. Have you changed your hair style since high school?   Why or why not?

I used to have long thick hair, but since having cancer, it never grew back thick or long. So, I keep it shoulder length with long layers.

1. Last time you drove more than 100 miles from your home? Where did you go?

Back in April when we moved here to central Florida from NY. And now we realize, perhaps we ought not have--due to the enormous grief we were under from the sudden death of our son. Grief is still there, not just as 'cumbersome'/bad as it was. I am 100% sure he wants us to get going on our lives...not necessary to forget him, but keep going...

2. Something that drives you batty?

Oh, so many things lately...slow drivers, slow Florida, (like time stands still here), slow internet, slow, slow, slow, slow...

3. Do you feel like you're 'on track'? For what?

On track? Not sure...because everything is so slow down here. Have I mentioned that? LOL

4. Your favorite car snack(s)?

Chips or those yogurt raisins.

5. Something you've done recently 'on the fly'?

We bought a piece of property back in May. Yeah...have I mentioned things run slow down here? lol

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Still haven't broken ground here to put the cottage up...still awaiting the county to release the deed documents...on another front, we did visit the cottage yesterday for some time...and I told hubby we will have to get rid of more stuff. He is refusing...we moved from a 1700 sq ft apartment up north to an 850 sq cottage---you're just going to have to let go, just saying. He is incredulous that I am willing to let go...just let it go---and I am probably going to put my depression ware back on consignment and get rid of the china cabinet etc. He is like "NOOOOOOOOOO." Yes...you see, there is an argument brewing, grin. When we discussed downsizing, I don't think either of us realized how much we were going to do so. I need for him to be ok with letting go, personally, I think it's good for the soul and heart, just saying.

All in all, neither of us have regrets about moving home...we just have issues with interest rates and such...there is no end in sight for the rising cost of things. I remember when $100,000 went far, not anymore. Just keeping it real.

photo taken from my parking spot at the prison.

The only photograph...every morning, I am greeted by a beautiful sunrise. By the time I leave (6:30 am) am the time I get there, the sun is rising. Getting thru security and gates and such takes about 20-30 min. I like to get there early because of that.

P.S. Got a reality check Friday when we all were asked at work to update our info/emergency info...the reason? Its hurricane season and the prison does have staff housing if needed. IF or when a hurricane hits/approaches the prison goes in a lockdown etc. or inmates have to be moved etc...and since I am good 20-30 min. drive away...yeah...remote work might be needed. And why I haven't used/utilized the staff housing---well, no thanks. Just saying.

Front Porch Chats...

I haven't seen Monica in a while, nonetheless, I will link back to her.

Time: 9:08 am

Scene: Warming up-79* and sunny right now. However, it says 50% chance of rain today. It seems every day we get these big thunderboomers with lightening. We got caught in one yesterday. WOW is all I can say.

Today's Plan: I'm doing it, NOTHING. Hubby was kind enough to get the laundry hung up. My wrist really hurts today, and I am leaving the bandage off to let air get to it. On that note, not sure if that is good for a burn, but I just need relief from wearing the bandage.

Drinking: My second cup of Publix Keurig / K cup coffee with Italian Cream. Hubby was kind to also make breakfast of scrambled eggs and sausage. It was good. He said I was losing way too much weight (45 pounds so far) and he needs to fatten me up again, whatever ((grin)).

Listening to: Nothing. Kim (friends we are staying with) is sitting across from me on her phone.

Watching: Nothing. I am really behind in You tubing etc. I really need to find time to get caught up.

Randomness: --How about the sad state of affairs we are in as Americans? (No? Don't want to talk about that, huh?)

--Rising costs? (again, No)

--I simply cannot deal with fall/Halloween items out in the store--its freaking hot and humid here in Florida. AND it's only the middle of July for Pete's Sake.

--We stopped at the Sheriffs Thrift store and bought a chandelier for the house:

not my photo, Lowes has these for $52. I paid total $14.

--I am reading a really funny book:

Well, that is about it for here. I hope each of you have a beautiful day, smiles.

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner

It has been one of those weeks that I would like to crawl into a hole and just hide out. My apologies for not keeping up with blogging, Im'ing, emailing and such.

Not that I forgot July 11th was our sons seventh month in Heaven...and the pain of losing our only child hasn't gotten easier...just keeping it real folks. But life does go on and I am happy to report the for-mention Zebras have been a daily sight to see. As are daily sightings of fast cars: Corvettes, Camaros and Challengers (our son loved any vehicle, especially those). So, maybe just maybe there are daily reminders that life has to go on, right?

Alot has changed since my last post--breakneck speed...too much to mention here...but here we go...

is the word for the day. Why? Because we decided (finally) on a small cottage-850 sq ft place to call home. You can view it here Brunswick. The bank said yes, so hang on folks...hopefully by October we will be in our place. NOT that I am complaining, but it will be nice to have our own place. Staying with friends is def. been trying...just keeping it real. After much deliberation we decided to settle on a small house and enjoy the outdoor living--hubby has a couple of sheds coming and once the final surveying can be done, we can plan the landscaping etc.

...and last Sunday, I suffered a pulled nerve in my left wrist-and thankfully it was not broken. BUT I did suffer a chemical burn from the Lidocaine patches that were prescribed. We are dealing with that before we are dealing with the nerve issue. Pain scale in up there near 20 (out of 10) and my arm is wrapped to near my elbow. Don't know how it happened, but it did. ANYWAYS...

Has anyone noticed Cracker Barrel has their fall and Halloween items out? Noticed that today, we go every Saturday for "date" day. Just the two us...since we hardly see each other during the week, since I do work. ANYWAYS...it's hard to think of fall as it's a million degrees here.

Yep...so rock on. smiles. I'll try to catch up later.

Hanging on...bits and pieces

Let's just keep it real on this hot and humid Saturday Florida morning.

Where do 'we' start?

---When the feds. recently hiked the interest rates 3.4% of a percentage that knocked us clear out of the ballpark-wayyyyyyyy out of a monthly payment. NOW we have to look for a house that is $100,000 --do you know how impossible this is? Do you know how much rent is? Try over $2,500 a month-we had to walk away from signing the contract---after it was all said and done---nope, couldn't do it. Thanks Biden and your minions for raising the costs on pretty much everything. Us normal working folks who do make the world go around, we simply cannot afford to live, period.

The currently rising costs of everything is hurting us the WE THE PEOPLE. I hear it all day long, food, mortgages, gasoline, electric etc. Inflation is literally and figurately hurting folks. I know of folks who are going without meds or whatever to just afford to be able to go to work, eat etc. (and I realize there are way too many TO'S in that sentence).

Back to the drawing board. My husband's sister is coming in from the Palm Coast today to spend a couple of hours with us. Both of them have real good jobs with the City of Palm Coast--and they are in the same boat--life is getting hard. And I just want to say, NO I do not think we made a mistake moving back here. I was just looking at the newspaper from Hornell, NY and houses suddenly have become very unaffordable there as well.

Perhaps another depression of some sort? I know inflation is the word...but depression is a possibility. I will say, one day I was particularly mentally ill (grinning on that word) driving to work early in the morning and I was talking to our late son (trying to sort things out--don't think I am crazy) and all of sudden, driving by a horse farm that I pass by every single day --there were 2 ZEBRAS! Z-E-B-R-A-S in a horse field. I almost crashed ---turned around and had to stop to look. I'll be darned...wasn't that the oddest thing (it must be some sort of rescue farm-as there are Emu's, Ostriches and Donkeys too---and every day this week going to work and coming home-the Zebras are there-blending into the beautiful landscape)...

NOT MY PHOTO

Zebras are magnificent creatures, no two are alike. My son knows I love zebras and hippos, but you know, I seriously doubt I will ever see a hippo sitting in a horse field, just saying, LOL.

I plainly heard:

So, anyways, the good news is God WILL bring us through it. Whatever it is, whatever is going on...HE WILL. One thing remains in the uncertain world, GOD remains prevalent in everything my husband and I do or think. No matter how rough it gets, HE is there. AND I am glad I know this--and feel sorry for those who don't. Speaking of witnessing...one morning an orderly (inmate) was cleaning my office area and she said something, and it made me look up and I got to witness to her---it caused the other two women who work in the office to stop and listen...both Christian women. When the orderly left, they both said how kind I was--normally we don't interact with said inmates. You know folks, there are plenty of folks out there who need to hear the WORD. Life is hard, can you imagine serving life/time in a prison? Now listen, not that I am feeling sorry for anyone, but empathy and kindness go a long way---perhaps that is what the world needs right. I stand corrected, THAT IS WHAT IS NEEDED. AND I realized, I was allowing LIFE or its circumstances to change me---NO thank you...I am a child of God. Period.

I will play blog/email catch up later...have a beautiful day folks.

July 4th

Wishing you all a very Happy July 4th.

We are not doing much today.

--we are still awaiting the doors to our Nissan Pathfinder (the SUV was hit back on May 2)...no end in sight for the delay (growing very weary). Thank you supply chain, the economy, the president and his minions, covid etc. So, with that said, my husband and Bob and friends (has a full shop/garage) have popped out what dents they could, and they are presently putting the trim back on and touching up the paint.

**we went the other day to see about trading it in...yeahhhhhhh right (being sarcastic) prices have gone up 40%. Plus, the chain issue. It's pretty sad.  I ain't paying over $600 a month for a car. Nope.

---STILL awaiting the house situation. I know they surveyed the land last week. NO ONE IS IN A HURRY to do anything here. Again, thank you thank you supply chain, the economy, the president and his minions, covid etc..

**on that note, we the people / America are in a mess, aren't we?

---Hubby is going to grill out hamburgers and hotdogs.

----I am presently awaiting the laundry to finish so I can hang it up on the line.

Yep. Have a beautiful day folks.

Meme Catching Up...

Hello on a late Sunday (although it feels Saturday, lol). All is good here...just busy, busy, busy...mainly work and the folks/friends we are staying with everything something to do/ go places every weekend and I am plum worn out. Thank you so much for the sweet comments you left, smiles. It does a heart good. So, how about catching up on the Memes?

Happy Fourth of July and welcome once again to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4!

Let's talk about Independence Day.

1. In previous times every family read the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights on July 4 to keep in mind the huge price paid by a minority of patriots for freedom and liberty.  What do you think about this tradition?  I hope you will institute it and value it.  It is so important.

Of course---as a Constitutional Historian it is very important to know your history; the good the bad and the ugly. This water down nonsense is getting on my nerves. And let's not even mention our own government and state governments who are doing this as well.

2. Fresh made lemonade was a huge deal in the Midwest when Laura Ingalls Wilder was a young girl. It was a very special treat.  Every family brought a dish to the town celebration.  What foods and drinks will you have on this important day?

Well, I know my husband is making hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill. The friends we are staying with, they really don't do much celebrating.

3. Will you be watching fireworks... a great American tradition on this day? They are deeply rooted in the American tradition.

WELLLLLL...we did when we lived in NY, HOWEVER, Ocala/Marion County has no public fireworks display and haven't since 2019. AND since I have to work Tuesday and it doesn't get dark until nearly 10, we will not be finding any fireworks.

4.  Will your flag be out?  Do you own one?

The flag is always out. Our Godson whose parents we are staying with (lifelong friends) is a Marine and now county sheriff deputy. We were talking if we ever get moved in, it will be like Christmas, as I / we really don't remember what we have in all those boxes and totes in storage, LOLOL.

Quick 4th fact: Did you know that the term Commander in Chief cannot be used except in times of Congressionally declared war? A president has no authority over the military until then.  Yeahhhhhhh...but this current illegit administration sure is getting away with many things.

1. What music were your parents listening to when you were a kid?  Does that music bring back memories for you?

My parents listened the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's rock and roll. Sure does, the Doobie Brothers and so on.

2. What was your favorite meal and beverage as a teenager? Is it still or have things changed for you?

Pizza and Pepsi. Yep, still.

3. As a teen did you live in a city, country, small town? What was it like for you there? Tell us about your hometown please?

We moved back to our hometown a few months after Liam passed away-Ocala, Florida it's no longer Slow Ocala. It's a growing metropolis--although we live out in horse country close to Dunnellon. Ocala is known as the horse capitol of the world. Oh, and it very tropical, humid and hot. No need for snow boots and such here, LOL.

4. Would you like to live in your hometown today? Why or why not?

We do. LOLOLOL NEVER EVER IN A MILLION YEARS DID I EVER THINK WE WOULD BE BACK HERE. It's quite expensive too--we simply can't afford a regular stand house--they cost anywhere from $300,00 on up.
