Hodgepodging...

Hodgepodging through on this day off. I will though have to go to my employer sometime today; my charger to the Tablet has died--I also think we are going over to our nephews for a post Christmas thing...and thank you for the kind comments yesterday. I am crying foul over the job situation...hubby is not being helpful at all. And so there it is; I prefer the steady income & can achieve goals much faster, but I am so unhappy. sigh

1. Tell us about your favorite moment or share one of the bright spots from the year we're leaving behind.

"You're Hired!"

2. What do you wish you'd known at the start of 2020? Elaborate.

I wish I would of known how much of a rear-end our governor would be in regards to the virus. Shutting down businesses and folks livelihoods, not right, dude. Not right. And I am ever so thankful at least my current job is considered Essential, not so the teaching job...the teachers union want remote to remain. I better leave it at that.

3. Best book you read this year? If you did not read any books this year, what's the best thing you ate all year? We've all eaten, right?

Gosh...what a hard question. I have read so many books and prefer the cozy mysteries and I prefer pizza. So, there you have it.

4. The Pantone Colors of the year for 2021 are ultimate gray and illuminating yellow (a bright shade)...are you a fan? Would we find either of these colors in your home or wardrobe?

Not yellow. My skin tone doesn't allow that color. I would love to have a buttery yellow kitchen with white cabinets like below.

I do have several gray sweaters-alias, I am color blind and often can not tell a gray from a black.

5. If you were/are making a list of 21 things to do/accomplish in 2021 what is one thing that would be on it?

Two things:

- Moving out of NY
-Finding property/house here

either way, I would prefer to find property in the middle of no where. I just think the crud is going to hit the fan sooner than later. Nothing is settled here on either front. Right now, moving trucks/services are 8 months behind. Yep. Have to get on a waiting list.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Tuesday Meme

Joining in with the Tuesday Meme.

The Times Square ball first dropped on December 31, 1907. It is 12 feet in diameter and covered with Swarovski crystals.

1.  Despite the weirdness of this past year, was it still a good year for you anyway or not?

Yes, still good. Went 5 - 6 months without a job, then wham, all of sudden...

2. How will you spend New Years Eve?

I have to work 7-3:30 (they want me to stay. I haven't decided, I am on the schedule, honestly, they presumed I would stay so I was told--with taking multiple exams yesterday for another position-- but with the talk of the governor of keeping the schools closed and on remote learning...there it is).

We've been through so much together and survived; the Marines, moving, job loss, stroke, cancer (loosing all my hair), sons open heart surgery, death of loved ones and so much more.

New Years Eve also marks our 32nd Wedding Anniversary and 40 years of being together. Won't be doing much because I have to work.

3. What do you do on New Year's Day? Is football part of the agenda?

Nope, not that I know of--well maybe for the guys. See above.

4. It's a Scottish tradition to kiss at midnight. Do you keep that tradition? Does everyone get a kiss if you do?

Yes. Well, not this year, because if I choose to stay and work, I have to be back at work at 6:45 am.  Don't get me wrong, I am thankful for the job...I also like the steady income. I am afraid according to what I have been reading from our governor, schools will remain remote. At this point, I have to have a steady ESSENTIAL income to rely on. I keep saying this, don't I? So, here we go again, flip flopping. I am really worried and concerned, just keeping it real. Our idot governor is talking NOVEMBER to return to "normal". N-O-V-E-M-B-E-R. I know my husband is tired of all of it.

P.S. Moving trucks or a service are still backed up 8 months. And lets not even state that other states in the Union want New Yorkers around because Cuomo has made it so very mean spirited. I wish folks would understand there are other cities, counties, towns, villages etc. other than NYC. Finding a job isn't the hard part, want to know what it is? Acceptability without having to go into quarantine and being tested.

May your new year be a bright and blessed one, free of trials and tribulations. All the very best to you and your family.

Sunday Stealing

Joining in with the Sunday Stealing. Thank you all for the kind comments yesterday. Since I didn't get home from work until after 10, I have fallen behind in answering them.

Star or Angel?

We usually have a star. But this year, our landlady gave us a lovely angel.

White Lights or Colored Lights?

I prefer colored.

Blinking Lights or Still Lights?

I like both-to which our tree has.

When do you open your gifts?

Early Christmas morning. You have to remember, I have a 54 year old child. He acts worse than the 23 year old. LOLOL---that was my gag gift to him; Monopoly for Cheaters.

Do you buy gifts for your pet?

Yep

Be honest: What's the worst gift you've ever gotten?

I can't ever remember getting a bad gift. I love all gifts.

Have you ever traveled for the holiday?

Once and never again.

Did you see Santa as a child?

Yes

Can you name all the reindeer?

Yep- Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen and the most important of them all Rudolf.

Have you ever gone caroling?

Nope

Do you drive around and look at the Christmas lights?

We use too. But haven't this year.

Have you ever left Santa cookies?

Darn ((snapping my fingers)), forgot this year.

Have you ever had a white Christmas?

Yes.

Have you ever made a gingerbread house from scratch? From a kit?

From a kit. I actually have one to make, but never got around to it. Will save it for next year.

Be honest: Do you think the season is too commercial?

Yes. I for one, are tired of seeing commercials with folks with masks on. America is quickly going the way of China. I better leave it at that.

Imagine you were going to create the quintessential holiday soundtrack -- which song(s) absolutely must be included?

I love singing that song at the top of my lungs. LOL

What are your Christmas pet peeves?

I don't have any.

Currently -Good Intentions...

Good intentions of posting/commenting...but you know, life just gets in the way. So, today, I will link back to Stacy for the Currently post.

Currently in Hornell

Time: 7:44 am

Temp: says 20 but real feel is 7*

Weather: cold and it snowed overnight. So cold is the word.

Listening to: Nothing. Hubby is watching something on Youtube --some farming or homesteading thing. I can hear it.

Reading: Nothing. Does looking at after Christmas ads count?

Yesterday:

I did NO shopping this year...oh wait, I did buy 2 things (gag gifts). The guys did all the shopping this year. I was pleasantly surprised on how well they know me. I did know about the hunting rifles they bought, that was the only thing I knew. Very proud of our son who came to us some time ago and asked for some financial help in getting the American made rifle. He did go to classes, pass the required state and federal background checks and finger prints etc...

My son got me this really neat book bag. He knew of a young lady here in town who embroiders and he designed a bag for me. Suppose to be robotic books. The bag even has a pocket in the  back for my cell phone. How cool. I have not downloaded many photos yet. Santa and his helper did really good in the gift picking.

Good News:

I finally was allowed to open and play my record player. There.is.nothing.like.a.record.player. I love it!

On todays list:

Have to head into work at 3:30-10. That is about it. I had put in 50 hours the last 4 weeks in prep. for quitting. I already did some after Christmas shopping; Bath and Body had a great sale on Wallflowers. Yeah, ok, I might have spent some of the 'money savings' of my hard work the last 4 weeks. ((rolling eyes)). I don't normally spend on myself.

This week:

Is my last week working for the #1 retailer. Taking that leap of faith and out of my current financial comfort zone.

...here is to looking forward to 2021.

No rest for the weary...

How I spent the day yesterday...

My pathetic attempt of a snowman. The kids thought it was funny.

Took a photo. I taught High School Science. Since ALL schools are on a hybrid model, I had 8 classes and only 6 students in each class. It was fun, honest it was. Of course, the day before break no one wanted to do anything--I get/got it. But they did plow through.

I am back to my "day job" 7 am-3:30 today. Tired, tired, tired. Anyways...wishing you...a Merry

Christmas Tuesday Meme

So, folks, I lied...no, not really lied...but I do not have time off. My schedule changed yet again. No days off -even have to work Christmas Eve until 3:30. Today marks 6 days in a row and I am exhausted...beyond. Joining in with the Tuesday 4.

Christmas is fast approaching for millions of people...

1. Do you have a favorite Christmas carol and if so is there a particular version you especially like?

I'll Be Home for Christmas. Bing Crosby sings it best...and it makes me so sad. Because, honestly, I haven't been "home" to my parents. Nope.

2.Do you have a special dinner for the holidays? What foods are included?

Christmas Eve is always Pizza. I have told this story before-When we first married and was living in Hudson, NY we were in a serious car accident on Christmas Eve. Nothing was open but a little hole in the wall pizza place---so we had pizza. 31-32 years later, it remains so; pizza.

Christmas Day I make lasanga and rolls and a dessert. Nothing else.

3.Holiday movies ... which do you like to watch?

I like It's  Wonderful Life, nope haven't seen it this year. Been so busy working. The guys always put in the Die Hard series on Christmas Day, drives me nuts. THAT IS NOT A CHRISTMAS MOVIE, GUYS!

4. What traditions do you continue to keep year after year for the holidays?

We never travel. NEVER. Ever since we got in the accident all those years ago, we NEVER travel. This year, I will be traveling from work and back. Also, the meal plans never change either. Presents always get opened on Christmas morning. We are simple people who keep it simple, grin.

I wish you and yours a very happy & joyous holiday season.

Saturday 9

Well, folks...I am so busy with work and the crazy hours. Today its 3:30-10pm, then I have to head back in at 7 am tomorrow. I will not complain as I know there are families who are struggling emotionally, physically, financial etc. this year. Thank you all for the kind comments and emails. Makes a heart swell. grin

Joining in with the Saturday 9.

1. As you can see, Sam loved giving her annual wish list to Santa. Yet some children are reluctant to climb into Jolly Old St. Nick's lap. Did you enjoy the tradition or were you shy? Or did you by pass it altogether -- either because you wrote him a letter or because your family didn't celebrate Christmas?

I don't ever remember being scared etc.

2. Are you currently on the Naughty or Nice list? How did you get there?

I am always nice. Stop laughing. {{grin}}

3. Did you ship any gifts to friends and family this year? If so, which one traveled the farthest?

I only sent out two gifts this year; Gift card to my parents in Florida and a special package to our dear friends Sparky and Steve in Georgia.

4. Did you buy yourself a gift this year?

I haven not done any shopping...oh wait, I did...my record player-which I presume is wrapped because someone won't let me have it until Christmas.

5. What's your favorite holiday-themed movie? Have you seen it yet this year?

Nope. Haven't watched anything.

6. Thinking of movies, Christmas is lucrative for Hollywood. Have you ever gone to a movie theater on Christmas Day?

Yes. Can't remember what it was though. Our movie theater is still closed.

7. Have you ever suffered an embarrassing moment at the company Christmas party?

Nope

8. What's your favorite beverage in cold weather?

Hot coca with whip cream.

9. Share a memory from last Christmas.

My two guys getting their Trump hats.

wow, what a difference a year makes...now the wall is loaded with Patriotic items.

pre Christmas...I suppose I ought to update it. lol

...Who would of thunk it, a year later we are facing being ruled by China Joe, and China, Communism. Scary stuff coming down the line.

Can you believe next week is Christmas? I will be able to post, since my schedule is messed up-(rolling eyes-on purpose) I have Tuesday and Wed. off.

Hodgepodging...

Again, falling behind. Work, work, work...not so much come Dec. 31. After a few tumultuous few days enough is enough. I better keep that explanation short; never have I ever walked off a job, but coming close--I must be an idot to remain until then. The schools close here Dec. 24 and will reopen Jan 4-so looking forward to a new chapter.

Speaking of winter; we are expecting a winter storm to hit this afternoon. 6-12 inches of the white stuff is suppose to fall. Warnings have been issued etc. I am looking forward to it. smiles

1. What's something about Christmas that most people like, but you don't? Elaborate.

Christmas music and displays in stores BEFORE Thanksgiving. Drives me nuts. Or they even forget about Thanksgiving all together.

2. Tell us about one cherished tradition from your childhood and if you'll make it happen this year?

My mom would open the house for family and friends on Christmas Eve. Nope, not this year, not even at the Conley house. Way to many/much government overreach due to Covid.

3. In 1941 FDR declared December 15th Bill of Rights Day. Citizens were encouraged to fly the flag and gather for prayers and other ceremonies as appropriate. Did you know this?

YES

Will you fly a flag? Our flag is always flying.

Can you name all the rights and protections guaranteed in the first ten amendments of the US Constitution? Of the ten, which two do you value most? If you need a list you'll find one here.

Which two? How about all of them. In all seriousness, these two. AND for the record, I think government needs a refresher course.

-Freedom of speech, religion, press etc.

-Right to keep and bare arms

4. Do you know someone named Bill? Tell us something about him? Is there a famous 'Bill' you'd like to meet?

I have several Bill's I know from work. All decent individuals. I met Hornell's hometown  boy actor Bill Pullman. He still resides here part time and sits on the Alfred Univ. board.

5. A step in the right direction, on the right track, bragging rights, be in the right place at the right time, get off on the right foot, right as rain, right side up, give your right arm for, have one's heart in the right place...choose a 'right' that applies to your life in some way in recent days and tell us how it's so.

Wow...probably right track and right foot. I hope to be on the right track come January. Right now, my heart is not in the right place professionally.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I haven't even had time to watch my favorite movie; It's a Wonderful Life

Indeed it is...

Sunday Salon Ramblings with a Good Tiding News

Good Morning from a so so mild weather north. A Sunday Salon Rambles with a Good Tiding at the end.

Time: 7:50 am

Scene: 43* cloudy real feel 38*. Temps will drop during the day.

Drinking: first cup of

 with Italian Sweet Cream.

Listening to: Hubby is discussing an article he read on Politico about Religious Freedom. Very dangerous game both sides are playing.

Pondering: Nothing really. Maybe a little of this or that;

The woman who came in last night and proceeded to cross the barriers and almost getting hit by carts coming in. She cursed me out and turned me in for being rude for yelling at her. I swear, folks just don't pay attention. She most def. would of been killed or seriously hurt. All because she saw a woman sitting on a motorized cart and she wanted demanded it. She was intent on taking that cart regardless of the other woman.

Or the man who came in and verbally attacked a cashier by stating he was on quarantine for Covid and was breathing etc. on the cashier.

I swear, folks are just rude as all get out as Christmas approaches. I have to wonder why...my thought is folks are just fed up with all these rules, lockdowns and mandates because of Covid.

and then there is this thought:

Indeed...many folks are feeling the "pinch"

ON THAT NOTE, I WILL LEAVE YOU WITH THESE FINAL GOOD TIDING THOUGHTS.

On the bright side: Santa drove through our neighborhood yesterday. Brightening many lives.

Since there is no parade or Santa one on one visits this year, the city police the past 2 Saturdays have been going around through all the neighborhoods/wards wishing good cheer. I have to say, at first I thought it was lame and disappointing, but nope...it sure brightened my day and even our 84 year old land lady was smiling and shouting to Santa. I was standing behind our car getting ready to leave and the procession stopped right in front of me--and he goes, "Young lady, you need to get to work don't you." Mildly shocked, I realized who Santa was, "Yes, sir!" Thank you Hornell Police Department for making many people smile this Christmas season. Between the young and very old and in between, thank you. I will tell you, one good thing working for the local #1 retailer, EVERYONE shops there, even the police chief and I have been blessed beyond belief with getting to know people who stop and chat. Hence why I am always in trouble or so it seems, lol.

Yesterday was our big event at the store. I have to say, I never realized how many underprivileged families there are in this area. And for that, I am forever thankful for the outreach of our community leaders who have been put in a difficult position with enforcing so many rules etc. Wow, I was impressed and heart warmed with the show of support from city police, state, and even county. And with that...that is your Good Tidings News.

---sorry for so long to get to the Good Tidings News.

Let's Talk Nativity...

As sit here and contemplate the Good Tidings post, I saw this from the Vatican/St. Peter's Square; the Nativity Scene. Yes, THE NATIVITY SCENE-THIS YEARS.

Hideous beyond belief. You can read the whole story about it here.

My version of the Nativity is much more different than the Un Christ/Un  Holy/ Anti Christ shown above. The Vatican from 2016.

Indeed...

Wishing each of you...

Word(s) of the Year...

Thank you all for the kind comments. I have once again fallen behind, working 9 hr days...I know...no excuse...let me bring Good Tidings of words. Have you noticed what the word of the year is for 2021?

Words. Have you ever thought of how much words mean? Words can be so funny and so serious. I also find it a funny thing to reflect back on my previous word of the past year. Funny thing that word; not that I planned it, mind you. My word always finds me. Take last years for the prime example.

Those word(s) def. fit me. It fit me due to the difficult final senior year at the University. Thanks to the Covid breakout, it was immensely difficult. Now, here I am in another a storm, yet again, trusting the Lord. The 2021 Word most def. fit me, again, didn't pick it, it picked me.

Funny thing about words, right? Reflecting and planning for the year requires patience and diligence and yet, it can be so difficult to do so especially when one it seems is in the eye of proverbial storm. I took this from Proverbs 19:21; The Lord's Purpose will stand. Funny thing is, it is just like last years. What does this mean? I dunno. I'll have to think on it. Until next time...

Tuesday Meme on a Wednesday

Joining in on the Tuesday Meme on a Wednesday, lateeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee post.

1. Whether it's Christmas, Chanukah or a birthday party nice gifts can be hard to pick out. Is there a safe go to gift you think will fit anyone?

Gift cards, which I personally love. I know many who don't though.

2. Is wrapping a gift a necessary part of the excitement of giving and receiving?

I love to wrap gifts. My grandmother worked at Marshall Fields in Chicago in the gift wrapping department long before they had bags for your purchases, EVERYTHING got wrapped in brown paper bags and tied with string. I learned from her how to wrap packages. I remember many fond summers going to work with her.

3. What gifts given to you did you love the most?

You know, when we were first married, the struggle to buy/afford gifts was real. I treasure books, and during those early years, he would buy me a book or two. I love homemade gifts...and truth be told, I really prefer to give than to receive.

4. In the O. Henry book The Gift of the Magi, a man sells his pocket watch to buy some beautiful hair combs for his wife's long hair  but she has sold her hair to buy him a platinum pocket watch chain.

Have you ever saved long and hard to buy someone a special gift? Would you be okay with a holiday that didn't include gifts? Would friends and family understand?

Many many times we didn't have money to buy gifts. This year, is a little different since I have been working. Our families never understood, nor will they. Selfish comes to mind. But I won't go there. Our son, bless him, has NEVER EVER asked for anything. Oh sure, he would write Santa a note when he was little and often, that would be the only gift in the house. My husband worked extra hard to provide for us. For me, personally, a Christmas meal is all I need. Feeding my family is more important than a gift. Seeing my family healthy and happy is all I need.
