BookBound
The adventure continues beyond 2024!
We use the same file, but Sheet 2 for 2025 – see below
I recently shared my desire to let myself be led from one book to the next, and according to your comments, this is an idea that resonates with a lot of you.
So I’m inviting you to join me in this new adventure.
Together, let’s be BookBound!
I created a super simple Google Sheet. We can make it more fancy if you like.
If you are interested in joining me, let me know, and I will send you the link so you can edit the file and add your own name and books.
To clarify, you read a book of your choice. You put it here as Book 1 in the next available column.
So please don’t delete the columns already used by another reader.
Then when you are done with your Book 1, add book 2 that you felt led to when you read book 1. Etc.
To clarify even more, here is my own example:
I just read Among Others, by Jo Walton (my Book 1).
In it, she mentions the classic scifi called Babel-17, by Samuel R. Delany, which I had actually wanted to read for a while. So that’s my book 2.
When I read it, I discovered the main character is a poet, and her spaceship is called Rimbaud. I had wanted to read a book on Rimbaud for several years, so my book 3 is A Summer with Rimabud, by Sylvain Tesson. Etc.
You do the same, starting with your book 1 of your choice.
Obviously, you can read tons of other books beside this challenge.
And you do NOT enter the other books you read in this chart.
Just put here the ones that make a chain, starting from the book you chose as your Book 1.
If you know of a better tool or platform, let me know, I’m open, as long as it is free or very cheap!
NB: I’m not self-hosting, so I can’t use special plugins.

bookbound recap #1

Wow! I wanted to do something like this. Count me in.

thanks. received them. I hope this is not for all the reading that we do this year.

You pick a book A that you have just read. And you pick a book B that you feel lead to, from your book A.
Of course, you can read tons of other books besides that challenge. For instance, I have already read 8 books this year. But I am only putting here the ones I’m chaining together from the first I put in my chart.

I’m not sure I understand. What do you mean by being led by one book from another? Do we look at a previous book and then connect it to another one that we recommend? I think I need more instruction to join with this.

Thanks for your question, I’m going to add this to my main post.

Exactly. Each person will start with his her own book. Are you interested?

Let me think about it. I usually read my print books pretty randomly, and the Kindle books are set by what ARCs I’ve got lined up.

I will see what I can do. It is a nice way to learn more about what you read.

I think the fun will be to see what book other readers will start from, and what chain they will follow from their own first book

I received them, thank you! I’m about 50% of the way through my book 1, so I’ll make my first edits to the spreadsheet soon (hopefully).

Sorry for getting back to you only now. Yes, the more the merrier, and I will keep that same list going on, not just limited to 2024.
I just gave you access to the file.
You are in column D, I wrote there your url, you need to add your name – please don’t write in the other columns. Start with any book of your choice, and go from there!
Welcome!

I love reading this way. I makes it all more interesting. I am in, please send me the excel table. I used to do this some years ago, although did not know what to call it. I opted for ‘connected’ reading. I am happy to see what you all are reading.
