De Walcheren 1689
Vlaggenschip de Walcheren is eindelijk weer door duikers gevonden. Na de deelname aan de invasie van Engeland in 1688, keerde het schip in 1689 terug om in het zicht van de haven te zinken.

The wreck of the flagship "De Walcheren" has been found and is now being investigated by divers and the Dutch navy. De Walcheren took part in all the major battles against the English in the Second Dutch-Anglo war, the Chatham/Medway Raid and in the invasion of England in 1688, under Admiral Cornelis Evertsen. In 1689 the ship sunk near the harbour of Vlissingen.

De invasie van 1688 ~ The 1688 invasion
Twee fraaie plaatjes van de invasie uit 1688, de eerste komt uit de archieven van de Trustees van het British Museum en de tweede is een schoolplaat. Vrolijk Kerstfeest alvast!

What dutch historians knew already, the 1688 landing of William III, wasn't a holiday trip, nor a coup d'etat, but a full fledged and succesfull invasion by a foreign power of the British Isles. Fortunatly in academic circles this idea has gained foothold as well, so let's give you some nice pics from 1688.
The first one shows the arrival of William in London, courtesy of the Trustees of The British Museum and the second one is a 'school-plate', large drawings used in dutch history lessons. Merry Christmas!

Huguenot Soldiers
Moet zelf zeggen, ik vond het boek wel goed te lezen, maar blijkbaar denken anderen daar anders over.
Personally, I found this book a good read, but here's Gwynn's review.
Jstor/The Huguenot Soldiers of William of Orange and the "Glorious Revolution" of 1688: The Lions of Judah by Matthew Glozier
Source: Albion: A Quarterly Journal Concerned with British Studies, Vol. 36, No. 1 (Spring,
2004), pp. 130-132
Published by: The North American Conference on British Studies
The uneven quality of the work is a reflection of the sources used, which are fully presented in sixty pages of footnotes and bibliography. While the use of Dutch Commission Books and archival material to establish the role of the large number of Huguenot officers in the Dutch Republic in the years immediately before 1688 is emphasized (p. 3), there is no examination of their strengths and weaknesses as sources, and the bibliography is confined to printed works. The secondary sources used range from serious historians to popular
132 Albion writers, with little attempt to alert the reader to their comparative reliability. This book therefore discusses a worthwhile and neglected subject, but needs to be used with caution.

The Williamite Universe

A very interesting website named after William III, but not limited to the man, his nation or his kingdom. Contains a lot of valuable links, like to all the correspondence of William III (in French), research programmes, publications and congresses. In dutch and english.

Het geallieerde leger van Willem III ~ William's Confederate Army
Due to the Spanish Netherlands’ strategic importance to both the Dutch Republic and France, the so-called “Cockpit of Europe” attracted immense armies on both sides. France assembled the largest army until the Napoleonic Wars during the Nine Years’ War; and the largest of its field armies was deployed in the Low Countries Theater. For the allies, the burden of the war effort in the Spanish Netherlands fell to England and the Dutch Republic, the wealthiest and militarily strongest of the coalition’s members. The combination of geography, politics, and strategy merged resulting in the greatest of the allies’ armies, the army the army of Stadhouder-Koning William III.
