Remix Rising

2023 has been a banner year for the art of remixing. Here at SoundCloud, we’ve delved into the community-driven “slowed+reverb” and “sped-up” phenomena that have both hit a fever pitch. This week we’re celebrating the many remixers, putting new spins on bangers not initially aimed at dance floors, and turning up the temperature on tracks that were already heaters.

The dance-music remix community has seen several producers break out recently. Take the Canadian-born, Berlin-based house DJ and producer Jayda G, who put a funky spin on Taylor Swift’s “Anti-Hero” and also saw her own track remixed by legendary Daft Punk collaborator Todd Edwards. Speaking of Daft Punk, esteemed Parisian duo Braxe + Falcon put their equally iconic “French touch” on Jungle’s signature disco groove Meanwhile, Melbourne-based DJ and producer Pretty Girl added a breaks-inspired club layer onto her collaboration with the xx’s Romy and Fred Again, and Irish dance music breakout Jazzy connected with London producer extraordinaire the Alcemist for a jungle mix of “Giving Me.”

In short, there is an abundance of imaginative remixes raining down from all corners of the globe, uniting innovative newcomers with legendary mainstays. We’ve put together a collection of fresh remixes that range from Four Tet and Hot Chip to Sigma and TSHA.

MAFRO, “Bloom” feat. Ell Murphy  (TSHA Remix)

The UK producers Mafro and TSHA are life partners, a fact which gives her remix of his “Bloom” an added level of intimacy.

Chris Lake, Aatig, “In The Yuma” (Four Tet Remix)

British DJ Chris Lake got his start with bootleg remixes of the Prodigy, Eurythmics and more. This one’s official: Four Tet’s remix of Lake’s own 2022 track is a banger.

ODESZA, “The Last Goodbye” feat. Bettye LaVette (Hayden James Remix)

“Let me down easy”: Electronic duo Odesza sampled the great Bettye Lavette for this single, which goes hard on the remix by Aussie Hayden James.

Jayda G, “Meant To Be” (Todd Edwards Remix)

Grammy nominee Jayda G’s “Meant to Be” already had a nice bounce to it, but veteran garage house DJ Todd Edwards gives it the full bop treatment here

Jungle, “Good Times” (Braxe + Falcon Remix)

There was a soul-throwback quality to “Good Times” when it came out in 2022, and Braxe and Falcon tease out the disco throb on this excellent reworking.

Diplo & TSHA, “Let You Go” feat. Kareen Lomax (Sigma Remix)

TSHA and Major Lazer’s Diplo got together on the 2022 track “Let You Go.” Then they let it go into the hands of the drum and bass duo Sigma.

Disclosure, “Looking For Love” (salute remix)

British electronic music duo Disclosure may have found a third sibling when Vienna-raised DJ salute remixed this one

Everything But The Girl, “Nothing Left To Lose” (Four Tet Remix)

Fellow Brit Four Tet brings his trademark glitch to the great duo Everything But the Girl’s first new music in 24 (!!) years.

Romy & Pretty Girl “Strong”  feat. Fred again…  (Pretty Girl Remix)

There’s an ethereal quality to the original version of this song, released by the xx’s Romy. Australian rising star Pretty Girl sends it into the stratosphere.

Hot Chip, “Fire Of Mercy” (yunè pinku remix)

English synth-pop band Hot Chip mash-up with London-born producer Asha Catherine Nandy on this recent single, which is, of course, heat.

Suchi, “Birdy Bell” (Nick León Remix)

TDJ/producer Suchi has Indian heritage, was born in Norway, and is based in Manchester, so it’s no surprise her production takes us on an adventure. Here, Miami DJ hero Nick Leon adds a level of Art Deco pastel.

Disclosure, “Simply Won't Do” (DJ BORING Remix)

After hearing his very jittery remix of Disclosure’s (already jittery) “Simply Won’t Do,” we’re gonna go ahead and say DJ Boring is anything but.

Anne-Marie, “UNHEALTHY” feat. Shania Twain [ALTÉGO remix]

“Your love is worse than cigarettes,” claims the English singer Anne-Marie on this recent single, with help from her hero Shania Twain. The viral DJ duo Altego make the song smoke.

Major Lazer & Major League Djz, “Ngibambe” (Jayda G Remix) [feat. Gaba Cannal & Russell Zuma]

Jayda is  pumping up the jam on this wistful Major Lazer track, from their latest release, “Piano Republik.”

CRi “I Can Make It” (Jacques Greene Remix)

A newer member of Anjunadeep’s roster of deep-house artists, Montreal’s CRi hands off this recent track to fellow Canadian Jacques Greene, who has previously turned out classic remixes of Radiohead and Ciara.

Piri & Tommy, “Nice 2 Me” (Tommy Villiers Remix)

There’s a bit of a jazzy vibe to the original version of Piri & Tommy’s “nice 2 me,” but Tommy doubles down on the duo’s drum and bass roots on the remix.

Jesusdapnk,”Memories” (James Juke Remix)

Jesusdapnk has been a top-ranking house artist for some time now; here he carves out space for relative newcomer James Juke.

Daphni, “Cloudy” (Kelbin Remix)

Some dreamy, repetitive classical piano sets the stage before the young Italian producer Kelbin kicks Daphni’s “Cloudy” up a notch or three.

Christine and the Queens, “To Be Honest” (SG Lewis Remix)

Christine and the Queens released a soaring ballad of a lead single - SG Lewis raised the BPM and turned up the heat.

Taylor Swift, “Anti-Hero” (Jayda G Remix)

Jayda G is clearly adept at both ends of the remix spectrum. Here she pumps up Tay Tay’s “Anti-Hero” to heroic levels.

Nia Archives, “No Need 2 Be Sorry, Call Me?” feat. Maverick Sabre (Mount Kimbie Remix)

If you were lucky enough to see Nia Archives at Coachella earlier this year you already know. This track from her latest album gets a dubstep redoubling courtesy of fellow Brits Mount Kimbie.

Jazzy, “Giving Me (Alcemist Remix)”

Dublin’s Yasmine Byrne released her debut solo single in early 2023 and it topped the Irish singles chart. Here, the London DJ Alcemist whips it into a frenzy.

Nina Kraviz, “tarde” (melchior productions ltd late mix)

This Russian singer-producer trained as a dentist before launching her music career. There’s plenty of teeth on this hypnotic remix of her murky track “Tarde.”

Major Lazer & Major League Djz “Ke Shy” feat Tyla, LuuDaDeeJay & Yumbs (Joy Orbison Remix)

Taking the stage as Joy Orbison, Peter O’Grady has straddled the worlds of UK garage, dubstep, and old school jungle for over a decade. Here he remakes Major Lazer’s “Ke Shy” in his own image
