Teshuvah, Solar Eclipse, 2017/5777

Posted in Prophecy, Signs: Sun, Moon, Stars..., Teshuvah/Repent, Trend Update with tags , , , , , , , , on August 16, 2017 by paulthepoke

The Hebrew month of Elul initiates a 40 day period called Teshuvah. This is the Hebrew word for “repent”. It is a time to turn toward God. People are called to turn away from their sin, repent, and change course. It is a time of inward reflection and sincere self-assessment. The goal is a change in lifestyle away from sin to obedience in God’s word. This is the season is to prepare for the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah and the Day of Atonement or Yom Kippur. The 40 day period of Teshuvah ends on Tishri 10, Yom Kippur.

On a Gregorian calendar in the year 2017, Teshuvah begins at sunset on August 21 or depending on when the new moon is confirmed. On a Hebrew calendar, this is the year 5777.

This season of Teshuvah is unique. The 40 day period will be ushered in with a solar eclipse. The eclipse will cross the United States from the northwest coast to the southeast shore. 99 years have passed since the last time a solar eclipse crossed the whole of America.

A second solar eclipse is scheduled for seven years in April 2024 from south to northeast in the United States. The two eclipse paths…“X” marks the spot over the Midwest near St. Louis, MO.

Solar_eclipse_1999_4_NR

God stated from the beginning He will communicate via the sun, moon, and stars.

Genesis 1:14 Then God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years…”

The celestial bodies are God’s clock. This is His daytime planner and calendar.

There are multiple purposes for these lights and they are stated clearly. One, the lights are to separate day and night. Two, they are signs. Three, they are time markers (seasons, holidays, appointments, days, and years).

…let them be for signs and for seasons

The Hebrew word for “signs” is ‘owth. It means: sign, signal, a distinguishing mark, banner, remembrance, miraculous sign, omen, warning; token, ensign, standard, miracle, proof.

The Hebrew word for “seasons” is mow`ed (singular); mow`edim (plural). It means: appointed place, appointed time, meeting; sacred season, set feast, appointed season; appointed meeting; appointed sign or signal; tent of meeting (definitions provided by Strong’s Concordance).

Ancient Jewish rabbis have taught the moon represents Israel. The Hebrew calendar follows the cycle of the moon.  The sun represents the gentile nations. Gentile calendars follow the cycle of the sun. In the case of solar eclipses, the nation experiencing the phenomenon is the nation under consideration.

These symbols were created in their place from the beginning for a country and people on Earth in the future at their appointed time. The message is simple. It is a warning. The United States from coast to coast is being called to repent of their ways. Change their hearts and return to God. If not, judgment is coming.

This is not fatalistic. God is watching actions and listening. Judgment does not have to be. We are all free will beings with the capacity to change our ways.

Millennial Kingdom: Geological/Geographical Implicatioins, Broad Plain of the Earth

Posted in Creation, Millennial Kingdom, Prophecy with tags , , , , , , on July 5, 2016 by paulthepoke

Revelation 20:9 And they came up on the broad plain of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city, and fire came down from heaven and devoured them.

The context of this verse is at the conclusion of the 1,000 year jail sentence of the devil. Satan has been released from prison. He is deceiving the nations to bring them to battle against Jesus and His followers in Jerusalem.

…the broad plain of the earth…Notice the term is singular, one land mass. Mountains and islands are not mentioned. They have been removed. The Greek word for “broad plain” is platos (πλάτος). Per Strong’s Concordance, the term suggests great extent. The Greek word for “earth” is ge (γῆ). The term is defined as: arable land; the ground, the earth as a standing place.

This is a huge land mass or a super continent.

In the beginning, God created a single land mass on planet earth. Genesis 1:9-10 Then God said, “Let the waters below the heavens be gathered into one place, and let the dry land appear”; and it was so. God called the dry land earth, and the gathering of the waters He called seas; and God saw that it was good.

Some would argue the land was divided during Noah’s flood. There is one verse that is very clear when the continents emerged.

Genesis 10:25 Two sons were born to Eber; the name of the one was Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided; and his brother’s name was Joktan. Peleg’s life and times are noted after the Tower of Babel. Babel is where God scattered the peoples and changed their language from one to multiple languages. After Babel, God broke up the single land mass as well.

…the earth was divided…The Hebrew word for “earth” is `erets. This is the same term used in Genesis 1:9-10. It means: land or earth. The Hebrew word for “divided” is palag. It means: to be split or divided. Stated plainly, the land/earth was split/divided.

It appears, God will put His creation back in the order as He intended, one land mass, no mountains, no islands.

Revelation 21:5 And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

Trend Update: Transgender, April 2016

Posted in Creation, Culture, Gospel, Trend Update with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , on April 24, 2016 by paulthepoke

Deuteronomy 22:5 A woman shall not wear man’s clothing, nor shall a man put on a woman’s clothing; for whoever does these things is an abomination to the LORD your God.

The Hebrew word for “abomination” is tow`ebah. God sees crossdressing as tow`ebah or detestable or disgusting.

Those are God’s words. It is acknowledged, His words are offensive to segments of society. Eventually, His words are offensive to all of us if we are honest with ourselves. Please take your complaints and comments directly to Him. He will listen. He is a big boy. He can handle it.

The progressive, forward thinking critic would have us believe the transgender lifestyle is the next step in the evolution of humanity. The social experts tell us these new, complex, gender issues should have us leave the traditions of religion in the past. The government has imposed laws and executive orders reflecting this trend of political correctness. We live in a culture and society that has elevated its civil law above God’s Law.

God communicated His Law to Moses approximately 3,500 years ago. A point of this post is the practice of cross dressing was occurring thousands of years ago in the past. Transgender lifestyle is not cutting edge and trendy. It has always been. Ecclesiastes 1:9 What has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done, and there is nothing new under the sun.

Genesis 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. It is stated in this verse three times…God created. God thought enough of humanity in His likeness to create us last. Conditions were perfect when Adam entered onto the scene. We were placed in optimal conditions for success. God gave us His best. Everything was brand new and shiny. We were made by God with a purpose and plan, male and female. He defined roles to complete and fulfill. He expects us to act accordingly.

Every person on the planet has a lifestyle issue that can be taken to task. There is no sliding scale or grading on the curve when it comes to sin. Judgment belongs to God. James 4:12 There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the One who is able to save and to destroy; but who are you who judge your neighbor?

We are all in need of sin remission. Every single one of us is a sinner. We all have sin in our lives. Ecclesiastes 7:20 Indeed, there is not a righteous man on earth who continually does good and who never sins.

And this is where the mercy, grace, and forgiveness of Jesus enters the scene. Christ loves us ALL in spite of our actions whatever they may be. He paid the penalty for sin. For those who believe, He has paid the fine for sin.

1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit…

Romans 6:10 For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God.

Hebrews 9:28a so Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many…

Creation of Time: The Calendar

Genesis 1:14 Then God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years…

newmoon

There are multiple purposes for these lights and they are stated clearly. One, the lights are to separate day and night. Two, they are signs. Three, they are time markers (seasons, holidays, appointments, days, and years).

…let them be for signs and for seasons

The Hebrew word for “seasons” is mow`ed (singular); mow`edim (plural). It means: appointed place, appointed time, meeting; appointed time; sacred season, set feast, appointed season; appointed meeting; appointed sign or signal; tent of meeting (definition provided by Strong’s Concordance).

The Jewish calendar is based on three astronomical phenomena. These three are independent of each other.

1) Rotation of the Earth about its axis (a day):

2) Revolution of the moon about the Earth (a month): The average time for the moon to revolve around the Earth is 29.5 days. A pure lunar calendar has a minimum of 354 days in a year.

3) Revolution of the Earth about the sun (a year): The Earth revolves around the sun in about 365¼ days. A pure solar calendar has 12.4 lunar months.

The Jewish calendar coordinates all three of these astronomical phenomena. It is based on moon cycles instead of sun cycles. “Leap months” are added to sync up with sun cycles. Prior to the 4th century, the calendar was determined by observation. The calendar has been calculated mathematically since 4th century. Years are numbered from creation.

A Hebrew Year always contains 12 Hebrew months in a regular year or 13 Hebrew months in a leap year.

http://www.jewfaq.org/calendar.htm

http://www.hebrew4christians.com/Holidays/Calendar/calendar.html

The context of Exodus 12:2 is God giving Moses and Aaron directions prior to the first Passover and eventual exodus from Egypt. This is how and when God determined His New Year.

Exodus 12:2 This month shall be the beginning of months for you; it is to be the first month of the year to you.

The Biblical or Religious New Year begins at the moment of sunset at Jerusalem, on the evening of the first potentially visible crescent moon (Rosh Chodesh) beginning Day 1 of Month 1. The spring equinox is the demarcation point governing the solar cycle. A Biblical New Year can begin before or after the spring equinox.

Exodus 13:10 Therefore, you shall keep this ordinance (Unleavened Bread) at its appointed time from year to year. The first day of Unleavened Bread never occurs before the spring equinox. The rule of the equinox always places Day 15 (Feast of Unleavened Bread) of Month 1 on or after the spring equinox.

The first day of Unleavened Bread on Day 15 of Month 1 is the critical day for calculating a Hebrew Year. This ensures all three festivals take place within a single year as The LORD (Yahweh) specified.

Deuteronomy 16:16 Three times in a year all your males shall appear before the Lord your God in the place which He chooses, at the Feast of Unleavened Bread and at the Feast of Weeks and at the Feast of Booths, and they shall not appear before the Lord empty-handed.

http://www.torahcalendar.com/ORBITS.asp?HebrewDay=20&HebrewMonth=12&Year=2015

So when is the Biblical New Year? This year of 2016, there is disagreement.

Traditional Hebcal and secular thought has Nisan 1 occurring on sunset, Friday, April 8, 2016 (Gregorian).

The Hebrew Creation calendar has Nisan 1 occurring on sunset, Friday, March 10, 2016 (Gregorian).

Man cannot follow God’s directions when it comes to marking time. Our western Gregorian calendar is a solar calendar. Discrepancy and confusion reigns.

What time is it?

Sun, moon, stars, heavenlies…God’s time piece.

Jubilee, Part 7, Jesus the Kinsman Redeemer

Leviticus 25:23-25 The land, moreover, shall not be sold permanently, for the land is Mine; for you are but aliens and sojourners with Me. Thus for every piece of your property, you are to provide for the redemption of the land. If a fellow countryman of yours becomes so poor he has to sell part of his property, then his nearest kinsman is to come and buy back what his relative has sold.

In the previous post it was discussed how Satan is currently in charge of the world. God has given him authority since the fall of man in the Garden of Eden. The world is leased to Satan. God holds the title.

http://paulthepoke.com/2015/11/29/jubilee-part-6-satan-in-control-for-now/

Deuteronomy 10:14 The heavens, indeed the highest heavens, belong to the Lord your God, as does the earth and everything in it.

God has the papers of ownership when it comes to the Earth. This is confirmed in Revelation 5:1 I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a book written inside and on the back, sealed up with seven seals.

Leviticus 25:24 Thus for every piece of your property, you are to provide for the redemption of the land…God the Father has His price for the land of Earth. Because of sin, the land is cursed and there is a cost. God wants His payment in the currency of sacrificed, innocent blood.

Leviticus 25:25 If a fellow countryman of yours becomes so poor he has to sell part of his property, then his nearest kinsman is to come and buy back what his relative has sold. Adam lost the deed to the Earth because of sin. Adam was unable to pay the price with his guilty blood. No other person has been able to redeem the land since. All humanity is guilty and slaves to sin. We are unable to pay for the land. Humanity does not have access to the land deed until the scene in Heaven (Revelation 5). Jesus is fulfilling His role as a Kinsman-Redeemer. Jesus is related to Adam (Luke 3:23-38). Jesus is a kinsman to the man, Adam, who lost the land. Revelation 5:7 And He came and took the book out of the right hand of Him who sat on the throne. Jesus takes the book from God the Father. Jesus wants possession of the papers.

Revelation 5:9-10 And they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are You to take the book and to break its seals; for You were slain, and purchased for God with Your blood men from every tribe and tongue and people and nation. You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to our God; and they will reign upon the earth.”

The scene in Heaven (Revelation 5) is consistent with the customs of a Kinsman-Redeemer (Ruth 4). Both are conducted before the court and elders as witnesses before God. With His death Jesus purchased humanity, His bride, from the bondage of sin. He has access to the scroll. Christ is sinless and innocent.

See Jeremiah 32:6-15 for land purchasing and redemption document customs. The conditions for the redemption of the Earth are Tribulation; seven seals, seven trumpets, and seven bowls…

Jesus, a man, and His bride, the church, will fulfill God’s command in the Garden of Eden. Genesis 1:28 God blessed them; and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

Jubilee, Part 5, Humanity Falls

Leviticus 25:23 The land, moreover, shall not be sold permanently, for the land is Mine; for you are but aliens and sojourners with Me.

God transfers authority and possession according to His own choice. He owns everything. The point of the post is to see how God transfers authority in leadership over the earth. Please do not make assumptions in doctrine regarding marriage based on these verses. Marriage is a discussion for another day…Hint, both parties submit to Christ (Ephesians 5).

Jeremiah 27:5 By My great strength and outstretched arm, I made the earth, and the people, and animals on the face of the earth. I give it to anyone I please.

garden

In the beginning, God gave authority over the earth and everything in it to humanity. Notice authority was granted to both the man and woman equally. Authority was not given specifically to the man. See the two verses below in Genesis 1.

Genesis 1:26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

Genesis 1:28 God blessed them; and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

There are two verbs of interest in the verses above. They are “rule” and “subdue”.

The Hebrew word for “rule” is radah. It is used as a simple action verb and radah means: to have dominion, rule, or subjugate. The verb does not necessarily imply harshness or utilizing an iron fist. There are examples where God instructs the use of temperament and respect. Leviticus 25:43 ‘You shall not rule over him with severity, but are to revere your God.

The Hebrew word for “subdue” is kabash. It is used as a simple action verb and kabash means: to bring into bondage, enslave, make subservient; to subdue, force, violate; or dominate, tread down. In other words, use force if necessary. Kabash is used in the context of conquering the land in the book of Joshua and the military victories of King David.Definitions per Strong’s Concordance

The leadership structure radically changed with the original sin in the Garden of Eden. Originally God transferred authority of the earth to the man and woman equally, humanity. A consequence of the fall in Eden is God redefined the dynamic of the relationship between the man and the woman. The woman lost her position as co-ruler with the man.

Genesis 3:16b To the woman He said… “Yet your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.”

Notice God’s comments to Noah after the flood in Genesis 9:7 “As for you, be fruitful and multiply; populate the earth abundantly and multiply in it.”

There is no mention of “rule” and “subdue” anywhere in Genesis 9. Humanity’s authority over the earth is lost for now.

With the fall, humanity lost authority over the earth. As of now, look who is in charge… 1 John 5:19 We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one. Currently, God has transferred authority over the earth to Satan.

In the beginning, humanity’s co-rulers (Adam and Eve) failed to rule and subdue the earth. Leadership structure and order were radically changed.

In the end, humanity’s co-rulers (Jesus and His bride the church) will succeed, fulfill, and restore God’s promise in the Millennial Kingdom (Revelation 20:5-6, 2 Timothy 2:12).

Passover, Nisan 14, 9 AM – 3 PM, 33 AD

Exodus 29:38-42 Now this is what you shall offer on the altar: two one year old lambs each day, continuously. The one lamb you shall offer in the morning and the other lamb you shall offer at twilight…

boundlamb

There are two sacrifices per day. One is in the morning and one is in the afternoon at twilight. The daily sacrifices (morning and evening) are to be given with a bread and wine offering (Exodus 29:40-42). The daily offering directions are restated in Numbers 28:1-8.

This sacrifice is to be done continuously or tamid in the Hebrew. Per Strong’s Concordance, tamid means: continuity, perpetuity, to stretch, continually, continuously (as adverb).

The book of Acts offers a clue as to the time of the evening sacrifice. Acts 3:1 Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the ninth hour, the hour of prayer. To the Hebrew, the ninth hour of daylight is 3 p.m. in the afternoon. The hour of prayer was also the time of the afternoon sacrifice (Josephus, Antiquities of the Jews; Mishnah ; Philo of Alexandria).

For more detail regarding the timing of twilight, see the link below.

http://paulthepoke.com/2015/03/31/passover-nisan-14-twilight-33-ad-part-1/

The Hebrew word for “morning” is boqer. Per Strong’s, it means: morning, break of day; of end of night; of coming of daylight; of coming of sunrise; of beginning of day; of bright joy after night of distress (fig.).

This is the same word on day one, in the beginning…Genesis 1:5 God called the light day, and the darkness He called night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day.

A specific time is not indicated in the Bible for the specific time of the morning sacrifice. Extra Biblical sources such as Josephus, Philo, and the Mishnah (oral teaching of the Mosaic Law) indicate the morning, daily sacrifice took place at the third hour of daylight or 9 a.m.

Moving forward roughly 1,500 years from Moses and the Law. The day is Nisan 14, 33 AD. Mark 15:25 It was the third hour when they crucified Him.

Mark 15:34, 37 At the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, “ELOI, ELOI, LAMA SABACHTHANI?” which is translated, “MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?” And Jesus uttered a loud cry, and breathed His last.

The crucifixion started at the third hour of daylight or 9 a.m. He died at the ninth hour of daylight or 3 p.m. These are the same times as the perpetual sacrifice as directed by God to Moses in Exodus 29 and Numbers 28.

While Christ was on the cross, the oral teachings (Mishnah) and prayers of the priests in the Temple focused on four topics: redemption, forgiveness, the coming of the Messiah, and the resurrection of the dead. The priests and people prayed these topics every day at the time of the morning and evening sacrifice.

http://www.thesacredpage.com/2010/04/jewish-roots-of-jesus-passion-and-death.html

The directions and ritual of the continual, daily sacrifice from the Mosaic Law scream, “JESUS”!

Jesus’ death on the cross is the perpetual and eternal sacrifice for all of time. Sin happens every day. Today in the church age, we commemorate His death by communion with the elements of bread and wine. His death is the tamid sacrifice for sin.

Passover, Nisan 14, Twilight, 33 AD

Posted in Gospel, Prophecy, Spring Feasts with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on March 31, 2015 by paulthepoke

Exodus 12:5-6 Your lamb shall be an unblemished male a year old; you may take it from the sheep or from the goats. You shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month, then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel is to kill it at twilight.

Jesus-on-cross-sunset--300x221

The point is made clearly. The Passover lamb is to be sacrificed on Nisan 14 at twilight.

Leviticus 23:5 In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at twilight is the LORD’S Passover.

Numbers 9:3 On the fourteenth day of this month, at twilight, you shall observe it at its appointed time; you shall observe it according to all its statutes and according to all its ordinances.

Numbers 9:5 They observed the Passover in the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month, at twilight, in the wilderness of Sinai; according to all that the LORD had commanded Moses, so the sons of Israel did.

Numbers 9:11 In the second month on the fourteenth day at twilight, they shall observe it; they shall eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs.

The Hebrew word for twilight is `ereb. Per Strong’s Concordance, it means: evening, night, sunset.

This is the same word on day one, in the beginning…Genesis 1:5 God called the light day, and the darkness He called night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day.

So the question is… “When is it officially twilight?” There is much debate about the meaning of this.

…to kill it at twilight. The phrase literally stated, to kill between the two evenings. The issue: when does one sacrifice the Passover lamb? Scholars have often interpreted this phrase as idiomatic language to mean a period of time before darkness.

Darkness was ending after 3:00 p.m. Matthew 27:45 Now from the sixth hour darkness fell upon all the land until the ninth hour. Jesus died at or briefly after 3:00 p.m.

Time allowed to take Him off the cross, prepare His body, and bury Him in the tomb before sun down. Sunset in Jerusalem on Nisan 14 was 6:00 p.m. local time (no day light saving time or “springing forward” back in the day). Subtract one hour from time charts to account for day light saving time.

http://www.timeanddate.com/sun/israel/jerusalem?month=4

Jesus had to be buried before sun down. The setting of the sun marked the beginning of the next day according to God (Genesis 1, Creation Week). He had to be buried before the beginning of the Sabbath in accordance with the Law.

The reality is Jesus literally died between the two evenings on Nisan 14, 33 AD. That afternoon had two evenings. It was dark from noon to 3 p.m. Mark 15:33 When the sixth hour came, darkness fell over the whole land until the ninth hour. He died at the twilight of the first period of darkness. The sun reappeared. Then the sun set at 6:00 p.m. local time.

Approximately 1,500 years after Moses was given the Law, Jesus’ sacrificial death fulfilled the requirements of the Passover lamb figuratively and literally, to the hour and to the minute.
