Definitions
- the present invention consists of a polyester (PES) (or other fiber of synthetic or natural origin) web coated directly by one or more layered textile fabrication techniques using optimized PVC pastes which allow the printing of the final coating without the need for lacquer application or any surface treatment.
- PET polyester
- PVC-coated Polyester fabrics
- PES PVC-coated Polyester
- the adhesion and compatibility of different inks and fingerprint technologies to the media used is defined by the surface tension of that media, ie the surface energy of the media must be greater than the surface energy of the inks.
- Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) alone has a surface tension higher than polyolefins for example (which always require pre-treatment to allow printing), however the amount and type of plasticizer, stabilizers and fillers in PVC paste formulations change this surface tension, negatively affecting the quality of print.
- plasticizers, stabilizers and other additives adversely affects the printability of the final coating.
- a lacquer mostly of acrylic base dispersed in aqueous or solvent base, which increases the surface energy and acts as a barrier to the possible.
- plasticizer migration and other additives are an extra step, which represents not only an increased production cost but also a greater environmental impact.
- Digital printing coated can have different applications, adapting to different scenarios, in the area of indoor and outdoor advertising, decoration, among others.
- These products are in the form of coated fabrics (translucent, normal or opaque), coated nets and may also be in the form of specialties such as anti-roll behavior, self-adhesive among others. Any of these alternatives need a additional lacquer to ensure adhesion of different printing inks.
- fingerprint coated products may be complex containing more than 2 layers of coating, additional finishing steps (eg in case of self-adhesive application of the adhesive and its protective film), use of one or more opaque interior layers, among others, and the need for lacquer application further increases the complexity of the process.
- the optimization of the coating formulation to enable printing without the application of a lacquer ensuring the usual quality of lacquered solutions represents a differentiating invention that not only simplifies the coating process of products for this type of coating. as the environmental impact associated with the process decreases.
- FIG. 2 is a flow chart of the invention. Detailed Description of the Invention
- the present invention consists of a polyester (PES) fabric (or other synthetic or natural fiber) coated directly by one or more layered textile fabrication techniques using optimized PVC pastes which, after gelling and melting solid), allow printing of the final coating without the need for lacquer or other finishing process.
- PET polyester
- PVC resins and fillers to be incorporated has to be made in view of obtaining a suitable particle distribution in order to increase the packing level of these particles, thereby increasing the free plasticizer volume in the paste.
- Such particles should still be surface stable, i.e. with low / no absorption of resting plasticizer, and preferably with low tendency to agglomerate formation.
- PVC resins may have a K index of 60 to 80.
- Fillers such as Calcium Carbonate, or flame retardant fillers of aluminum hydroxide or Antimony oxide, among others, may be incorporated into plastisol up to 100 parts per 100 parts.
- Plasticizers, stabilizers, fillers and other additives present in the PVC plastisol formulation should have little or no surface migration tendency.
- Plasticizers may be phthalate, phosphate, benzoate, citrate, trimellitate or other plasticizers with low or no migration tendency.
- the optimized formulation was then used to coat, through direct coating technology, a Polyester mesh (Fig. 1b), following the usual PVC plastisol processing parameters.
- This formulation may or may not be flame retardant or not phthalate free.
- the final coating may have one or more layers of coating on either the print face (a) or the back (c) ( Figure).
- the surface tension of the coating was determined using contact angle measuring equipment (OCA 20 - Dataphysics) and the contact angles with three liquids of different polarities were determined: distilled water, methane diode; polyethylene glycol). Through the obtained values, and using the OWRK mathematical model, the surface tension of the coatings was determined. These measurements were taken after production and also after defined time periods, and no change was detected over time.
- the non-lacquered optimized coating can be produced in translucent, normal, opaque or mesh version. It may also be self-adhesive, anti-curl, flame-retardant or phthalate-free.
- FIG. 2 depicts the flowchart of the invention which summarizes the operations described above.
