Abstract

　ネマチック相の高い上限温度、ネマチック相の低い下限温度、小さな粘度、大きな光学異方性、大きな誘電率異方性、大きな比抵抗、紫外線に対する高い安定性、熱に対する高い安定性などの特性において、少なくとも１つの特性を充足する、または少なくとも２つの特性に関して適切なバランスを有する液晶組成物を提供する。短い応答時間、大きな電圧保持率、大きなコントラスト比、長い寿命などを有するＡＭ素子を提供する。 　第一成分として大きな光学異方性を有し、そして大きな誘電率異方性を有する特定の五環化合物、および第二成分として小さな粘度を有する特定の化合物を含有し、そしてネマチック相を有する液晶組成物、およびこの組成物を含有する液晶表示素子である。
