Definitions
- the gum disease begins and develops mainly in the area of the interdental spaces (interdental or approximal spaces).
- Classic tooth care with a toothbrush is not sufficient for the prevention and treatment of gum disease (periodontitis) because the bristles of the toothbrush reach the interdental space only inadequately or not at all.
- a water jet device for dental care at home, adherent and disease-causing dental plaque cannot be removed.
- the appropriate tools recommended by dentists for keeping the proximal spaces clean are dental floss, tooth band and interdental brushes in various sizes and shapes - tools that are applied manually and require special commitment. The acceptance for such dentifrices is not very high, since there are special demands on skill.
- a conventional electrically operated toothbrush is provided with a handle-shaped attachment in its upper area, which ends in an approximately cherry-sized head.
- This head contains a cylindrical holder that oscillates transversely to the longitudinal axis to receive brushes or other treatment parts.
- This holder is driven by an axis running through the handle, which has an eccentric pin at the upper end opening into the head. This pin engages fully an annular groove in the holder and, when the axis rotates, sets the holder in a reciprocating movement, which is implemented in two different frequencies via the motor selector switch.
- the handling is very similar to that of an electric toothbrush, with the difference that it is cleaned between the teeth.
- FIG. 1 shows a schematic illustration of a bit with two different positions of an interdental cleaning apparatus in action.
- Fig. 2 shows the overall view of the apparatus in the middle and its
- Fig. 3 is a sectional drawing through the apparatus.
- Fig. 4 shows an enlarged, partially open head shown, the dash-dotted line describes the stroke end position of the holder, the eccentric and the brush.
- Fig. 4b shows the same head, but with a modified, in this case oscillating shaft drive.
- Fig. 5 illustrates four different treatment parts, which are suitable for equipping the holder with the same shaft. The following is a more detailed description of the parts of the apparatus shown in Figures 1 to 5 and its mode of operation.
- Position 1 schematically shows part of a set of teeth with two heads (2) of an interdental space cleaning brush located in different cleaning positions.
- Position 1 a) should be the buccal, i.e. show cheek-side application, while position 1 b) the so-called lingual, i.e. tongue-side use illustrated.
- the good accessibility which is a function of the small size of the head (2) and the slightly curved stem (5), is to be demonstrated here.
- FIG. 2 a complete interdental space brush, consisting of housing (3), intermediate part (4), handle (5) and head (2) is shown.
- the handle (5) is locked in a stop-free swivel seat (7) in the intermediate part (4).
- a position rotated by 180 ° relative to the rest of the device can be set, which facilitates individual handling and a simple replacement of a wearing part.
- the front view b) shows the slender handle (5) with head (2) in an axial view with the brush (4).
- the housing (3) contains the induction coil (10), the battery (11), the motor (12) with the two-stage switch (13).
- the spur gear (15) seated on the motor shaft (14) engages in a larger gear (16) which sits on the drive shaft (17).
- This is mounted in alignment with the eccentric shaft (19) by means of two slide bearings (18) in the intermediate part (4) and connected to the latter by means of the coupling (20) with the sleeve (21).
- the handle (5) is with the intermediate piece (4) locked by a stop-free, stiff swivel seat, which also allows the transmission of a certain contact pressure when cleaning.
- the head (2) is rotated at 90 ° and has a bore for receiving the cylindrical holder (22). This in turn is axially pierced to receive the brush shaft (23) and has an annular groove (25) on its outer circumference, in which the eccentric pin (24) of the eccentric shaft (19) slidably engages.
- Fig. 4 shows, greatly enlarged, a half cut head (2) with part of the stem (5).
- the rotation of the eccentric shaft (19) acts via the eccentric pin (24) on the annular groove (25) of the holder (22), the resulting path X (26) for moving the latter being converted in the axial direction.
- Fig. 4b shows the same head (2) with an eccentric shaft (19), which, however, carries a rocker arm (24b) instead of the eccentric pin (24), but also via the annular groove (25) of the holder (22), the rear and movement results in that the eccentric shaft (19) does not rotate but oscillates.
- the versions a) to d) are in detail: A bow-like shape with a velor-like textured fiber as a string (27),
- Treatment for cleaning the interdental spaces is as follows:
- the interdental space brush is inserted into the oral cavity in the same way as the electric toothbrush, although it is advisable to use a mirror the first time it is used to check the exact point at which the treatment part is inserted into the interdental space.
- a toothpaste applied to the brush (9) can improve and facilitate the subsequent groping insertion and cleaning by its effect which reduces the sliding friction.
- the buccal 1 a) or lingual 1 b) insertion of the interdental space brush is possible in the switched on or off state. Due to the stroke (26) of less than 2.0 mm, the paste cannot be splashed or lost.
- appropriately shaped brushes, plastic tips or plastic lamellae (9) (27) (28) (29) (30) can be exchanged by simply pulling the treatment part out of the holder (22).
- the duration of the cleaning process can be individually determined in accordance with the dentist's recommendation or depending on the cleaning success.
- the cleaning effect is all the better, the more precisely or precisely the treatment part reaches the area to be cleaned. Due to the high frequency of the treatment part, which can be selected in two steps of 150 Hz or 300 Hz, compared to the manually moved interdental space brush, a greater cleaning effect can be achieved in any case, since the apparatus, which is quietly in the hand, due to the slow, arcuate direction - Moving in the plane of the dentition allows a cleaning that fully touches the circumference of the tooth neck. After cleaning, the head (2) and stem area (5) with the respective treatment part is rinsed under running water while running in order to remove paste residues etc. from the area of the oscillating parts of the apparatus. However, since the treatment parts are wearing parts, their functionality must be checked before starting any cleaning.
- the interdental space brush corresponds in its possible uses to the ideas and recommendations of dentists who want to give their patients a new means of dental hygiene that corresponds to their expanded care awareness.
