Abstract

The determination of the end of the digestion time is essential in cellulose digestion for the product quality and/or yield. According to the invention, this is done by measurement of the pH in-situ and possibly the colour of the digestion acid during digestion. The process may be used in both discontinuously and continuously operating cellulose digesters. An arrangement for implementing the process with suitable sensors for the on-line measurement of at least the pH has an evaluator with a computer (70), in which said computer (70) determines the digestion time from the measurement values or their time variation.
