Be it known that I, lVALLAcn G. Aena, a citizen of the United States, residing at Louisville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Kentucky, have invented certain 'new and useful Improvements in Hose Supporters, of which the following is a specification.

rl"his invention relates to garment support- 10 ers and more particularly to means for retaining the shirt in place and as a support for a sock or stocking and which ma be used equally well with either short or ong drawers.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will be cheap to manufacture and which will serve to retain the shirt in position no matter what position the wearer assumes, and which also holds socks or stockings supported and may be readily adjusted to fit wearers of different sizes. y

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown, de`

scribed and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 represents a side elevation showing this improved supporter applied.

Figure 2 is an enlarged detail elevation of the supporter with parts broken out for convenience in illustration, and

Figure 3 is an edge view thereof with parts broken out.

Figure 4 is a cross section through the fastener element and the long loop.

In the embodiment illustrated an elastic strap 10 is shown of a length suiiicient to span the space between the shirt 1 and soclr 3 and to have one end folded to provide an adjusting loop 1l the free end 12 of which is folded around the center bar of a slide 14 and turned in and stitched as shownat 18 in Fig. 3. This connection of the end 12 with the body vof the strap 10 by the slide 14 provides for the lengthening or the shortening` of the supporter to fit men of different heights or for use in connection with longer or shorter shirts or socks.

f Loosely carried by loop 11 is a metal loop 15 preferably composed of strong wire suitably niclreled or otherwise finished. the inner end member 16 thereof with which the loop l1 is engaged being longer than the outer end member 17 with which a looped fastener carrying member 2O is connected. The side members 18 and 19 consequently converge toward the outer end member 17 which latter is designed to support the member 20.

The member 2O is formed from a two-ply continuous strip 21 of strong inelastic tape bent upon itself between its center and its inner end to provide an outwardly projecting lengthwise extending overlap and with the overlap secured to-the remaining portion of the strip by spaced rows of stitching, there by set-ting up said member 20 with a short loop 22 and a long loop 23, and with the long loop 23 extending outwardly from said short loop 22. The row of stitching is provided for securing the opposed plies of the long loop 23 together in proximity to the outer end of the member 20. Between the plies of the strip 21, at the bend where the strip 21 is folded to provide the overlap, is interposed the end member 17 of the loop 15. The rows of stitching for securing the overlap with the remaining portion of the strip 2-1, are indicated at 24, 24a, and the row 24 is interposed between the center and inner end of the overlap, and the row 24a is arranged between the center and the outer end of the overlap. The row of stitching which secures the plies of the loop 23 together, in proximity to the outer end of the member 20, is indicated at 3l.

A loop fastener member 25 preferably composed of stiff wire, although not necessarily so, has its cross bar 26 supported by the short loop 22 of the member 2O the end of the tape being threaded through the loop 25 before it is stitched a second row of stitching 24a being employed to secure the member 25 in the loop 22 and to secure said loop 22 to loop 23 at a point spaced from the row of stitching 24 whereby these loops and members are securely held in position.`

rl'he elongated slot-like portion 2'7 of the fastener 25 is designed to fit over and engage a rubber coated fastener element in the form of a metal stud 28 which projects laterally from the outer face of a metal plate 29 carried by the outer member of the loop 23 adjacent the fold in the strip which forms t-he loop 28 as is shown clearly in Fig. 3. This plate 29 has its side edges turned in around the edges of said loop member as is shown clearly in Fig. 4, forming clamping lips 3() between which and the body of the plate 29 the memberl of loop 23 is clamped.

The free or unfolded end of the strap 10 also Carries a metal loop 15 which is constructed exactly like the loop 15 above described and hence will not be further referred to, said loop 15 being secured to the strap 10 by threading the end of said strap through said loop and stitching it.

A fastener carrying member 20 similar to the member 20 above described is carried by the loop 15', and is designed to be connected with the sock 3 as'is shown clearly in Fig. 1.

ln Fig. 1, the fastener 2O is shown connected with the shirt 1, and the fastener 20 with the sock 3, but obviously these ends may be reversed at the will of the user, both being exactly alike except for the adjustable loop l11 which carries one of the members to provide for the lengthening and shortening of the strap 10. The rubber covering 32 for the stud 28 is grooved peripherally as shown at 83 to receive and hold the slotted portion 27' of the fastening loop 25, it of course being understood that the garment to be held is first inserted over the stud and the loop engaged as is usual in devices of this character.

An inspection' of Fig. 1 of the drawing will render clear the use of this invention and when the supporter is positioned as shown in said figure with one end engaged with one side of the shirt 1 and the other with one side of the soclr 3, the shirt will be held perfectly in place and the sock or stocking supported regardless of the position assumed by the wearer.

rlhe preferred embodiment of the invention is disclosed in the drawings and set forth in the specification, but it will be understood that any modifications within the scope of the claimed invention may be made in the construction without departing from the principle rof the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.

I claim 1. A garment fastener comprising a twoply continuous flexible strip bent upon itself between its center and the innerv end to provide an outwardly projecting length wise extending overlap, spaced rows of stitching for securing said overlap to the remaining portion of said strip thereby providing a short loop and a long loop extending outwardly from said short loop, one of the rows of said rows of stitching ar ranged between the center and'outer end of the overlap and the other row of stitching arranged between the center and inner end of said overlap, a row of stitching for securing the opposed plies of said long loop together in proximity to the outer end of said member, a rigid rectangular support positioned against and transversely of the outer face of the outer ply at the outer end of the long loop and having its ends extended between the plies of the long loop inwardly of 'the outer end of said strip, said support carried by the long loop outwardly with respect to said last mentioned row of stitching, a fastener element projecting laterally from said support, and a fastener element connected to the outer end ofthe short loop and cooperating with said element.

A garment fastener comprising a twoply continuous flexible strip bent upon itself between its center and inner end 'to provide an outwardly projecting lengthwise extending overlap, spaced rows of stitclr ing for securing said overlap to the remaining portion of said strip thereby providing a short loop and a long loop extending outwardly from said short loop, one of the rows of said rows of stitching arranged between the center and outer end of the 'overlap and the other row of stitching arranged between 'the center and inner end of said overlap, a row of stitching for securing the opposed plies of said long loop together in proximity to the outer end of said mem. ber, a rigid rectangular support positioned against and extending transversely of the outer face of the outer ply at the outer end of the long loop and bent to overlap the side edges of said outer ply, said support carried by the long loop outwardly with respect to said last mentioned row of stitching, a fastener element projecting laterally from said support, and a fastener element connected to the outer end of the short loop and cooperating with said element.
