UNITED STATES JOHN P. oDcERs, oF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, AssIGNoR To THEA PATENT OFFICE.
A. M. COLLINS MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
CARD-FRAME 0R MOUNT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 522,484, dated July 3, 1894.
Application filed April 14, 1894.
Serial No. 507,503. (No model.)
the back without distorting the face of theframe;L this object I attain in the following manner, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l, is a perspective View showing the front face of the frame or card mount. Fig. 2, is a perspective view ofthe rear of the same. Fig. 3, is a sectional plan view. Fig. 4, is a longitudinal sectional View; and Fig. 5, is -a longitudinal sectional view with a picture in position.
In carrying out my invention the card A forming the front face of the frame is ornamented in any manner desired, as it is simply a flat card. This card A can be ornamented so as to have the 4appearance of a figured frame, as shown in Fig. 1. A plain card B is then cut for the back and this card is embossed so as to project the body b of the card beyond the edge c and a slot d is cut in the lower edge of the card below the embossing to allow for the passage of the card D with the photograph mounted thereon.
The card B is cemented at the edges c to the front card A. Thus when the two cards are fastened together a space is formed between the cards suiciently large to allow the card D to pass into the space Without distorting the face of the card and without scratching or otherwise mutilating the photograph.
An opening e is made in the center of the back card B so that the photograph can be adj usted properly.
It will be noticed on referring to Figs. 2 and 5, that the slot c is below the embossing so that a shoulder b is formed above the slot, thus preventing the picture being accidentally removed, but with a slight eort the picture can be readily removed. Thus it'will be seen by my invention that the front card can be ornamented in any manner and can be `printed as desired as it is a perfectly plain card, all the work of embossing being done on the back card which can be shaped according to any design required without interfering with the ornamentation of the front card.
I claim as my invention- The combination ofa plain front card having an openin g through which the photograph is exposed, an embossed card cemented to the back of the front card and having a slot below the embossing for the insertion of a picremoved, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signedy my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN P. ODGERS.
