CALENDAB STAND.

To all whom it 122 (13/ concern Be it known that I, NELSON L. JACOBUS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of West Orange, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Calendar" Stands, of which the following is a specification.

The general objects of my' invention are to provide'a stand ,for desk calendars and the like which shall-be of extremely simple and inexpensive construction, and which at the same time shall be of ornamental and at tractive appearance. The first of these ob jects I accomplish by making the stand of a single piece of sheet metal which is first blanked out and then bent to the desired shape. In 'a preferred construction the stand, as completed, comprises a fro-ntor face portion which may be left plain or ornamented, as desired, sides bmt rear'wardly from the front port-ion to serve assupports to such front portion, a supporting shelf bent rearwardly from the front portion, and

. a back rising from the rear edge of the shelf.

The calendar ad (or other article, if the stand is used or other pur )ses than a calendar stand) is supported y the shelfand the back, and the back is preferably connccted at its upper end with the sides. Also, preferably, there are-provided inwardly extendingwings rising from the sides of the front portion and disposed so as to overlie the edges of the calendar pad, these wings forming in combination with the supporting shelf and the back, a pocket for the reception of the calendar pad or other article.

Yarious other objects and features of my invention will appear as the specification proceeds.

In the accompanying drawings I have illustrated a preferred embodiment of my invention but I will have it understood that various changes and modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.

The stand is preferably made of sheet material, usually metal, such as copper, brass, etc., and. when so constructed, the sheet metal is first blanked out, as by means of a die, and is then bent into the required shape. The shapeand size of the stand may vary to suit. different conditions and requirements but preferably. it consists in general of. a front portion 4, side portions 5 bent rearwardly from the front portion prefer-.

ably so as to serve as supports for such front portion, a supporting shelf (3 bent rearwardly, substantially at right angles to the front portion, anda back, rising from the rear edge of the shelf. This back may be solid, for the full'width of the supporting shelf, but preferably the back consists simply oftwo bars or supports 7 which may be and preferably are connected at their upper ends by a cross bar .8. For the purpose of securing all the various parts in their final or assembled form, the ends of this cross bar are preferably connected with the side portions 5 in some suitable way, such as by providing lugs 9 on the ends of the ,fqross bar to engage in the seats or openings 10 .in the sides 5. The calendar pad or other article. rests with its lower edge upon the supporting shelf and with its rear face agalnst the back in the manner shown in the sectional view. For the purpose of better holding the calendar pad'or' other article in place, there are preferably provided. two inwardly .ex-

- tending wings 11 located at the opposite ends of the front portion. These retaining wings may be provided by simply continuing the 'ends of the lront portion on up to the desired height. The back is, as shown, preferably disposed parallel to the front portion, and the back, shelf, and retaining wings form in combination, a'pocket to receive the pad or like'article. The lower edges of the sides of the stand are, as indicated, at 12 in Fig. 3, preferably cut at an angle with. respect to the lower edge 13 of the front portion so that when such sides are bent back they will support the stand in a convenientinclined position.

By reason of this arrangement the supporting shelf is thus raised above the lower edge of the front portion of the frame. In the blank illustrated the retaining wings 11 are produced without any additional bending for as there shown these wings are provided by the material of the front portion remaining between the lines of severance LL and the lines 15 on which the sides are bent.

What is claimed is z- 1. A stand for calendars and the like inade from a single piece of sheet material and comprising a front portion, sides bent rearwardly from such front. portion to form sheet material down to a line short of the out with a front portion, two integral side portions adapted to be bent back to support the front portion, and. a back portion cutout from the body of the front portion, the said back portion being bent rearw'ardly substantially at a right angle to the front portion to form a supporting shelf and thence upwardly substantially parallel'to the front portion to form a back for the calendar or other article resting onthe shelf, the said back portion being cutout from the front portion so as to leave marginal-portions at the sides of the front portion overlying the pocket formed by the supporting shelf,

back and sidesythelsides having each an opening near the upper end thereof and the back having lugs on the sides of the same adapted when engaged in the said openings to lock the back and sides together.
