Description

Sept. 3, 1957 c. T. cooMBs 2,805,035
TRASH RECEPTACLE HOLDER Filed March 1, 1954 \[6 Clarence 7T Coombs l4 INVENTOR.
7V5 BY 0 WW 25m United States Patent O TRASH RECEPTACLE HOLDER Clarence T. Coombs, Frederick, Okla. Application March 1, 1954, Serial No. 413,040 1 Claim. (Cl. 248-361) The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in trash receptacle holders and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as set forth hereinafter, a device of this character which is adapted to firmly anchor such containers to the ground and to prevent the tipping over thereof.
Another very important object of the invention is to provide a holder of the aforementioned character which is adapted to be expeditiously engaged with the trash receptacle or disengaged therefrom.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a holder of the character set forth which will accommodate trash receptacles of various heights within a given range.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a trash receptacle holder which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, highly efficient and reliable in use, compact and which may be manufactured at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view, showing a trash receptacle holder in accordance with the present invention in use.
Figure 2 is a view in vertical section through the upper portion of the device.
Figure 3 is an exploded view, showing the parts comprising the holder with the exception of the tubular post.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated, comprises a tubular metallic post 5 of suitable length and diameter which is adapted to be driven into the ground. Threaded on the upper end portion 6 of the post 5 is a metallic cap 7 having a central opening 8 in the top thereof.
The opening 8 in the cap 7 slidably accommodates a metallic shank 9 which comprises a threaded lower end portion 10. On its upper end the shank 9 is provided with a finger ring or eye 11. Formed integrally with one side portion of the ring 11 is a downwardly facing or opening hook 12 which is engageable over the top of a trash receptacle as at 13.
Threaded on the lower end portion 10 of the shank "ice 9 is a nut 14. The threaded portion 10 of the shank 9 is apertured to accommodate a cotter pin 15 constituting a stop for the nut 14. A compression spring 16 encircles the shank 9 and is engaged with the nut 14 for yieldingly urging said shank downwardly in the upper portion of the post 5. A rubber washer 17 is provided On the shank 9 between the upper end of the coil spring 16 and the cap 7 for preventing leakage of water through the opening 8.
It is thought that the manner in which the device is used will be readily apparent from a consideration of the foregoing. Briefly, the tubular post 5 is erected in the ground at the desired location and the trash receptacle 13 to be held is positioned closely adjacent to said post. A finger is then inserted through the ring 11 and the shank 9 is elevated against the tension of the spring 16 for engaging the hook 12 over the top of the receptacle 13.
The ring is then released for permitting the spring to retain the hook 12 securely in engagement with the receptacle. To release the receptacle 13, the foregoing operation is substantially reversed. Of course, the shank 9 mayalso be rotated in the cap 7 for facilitating the engagement of the hook 12 with the receptacle 13 or for disengaging said hook therefrom. As hereinbefore stated, the rubber washer 17 seals the cap opening 8 around the shank 9.
It is believed that the many advantages of a trash receptacle holder constructed in accordance with the present invention will be readily understood and although a preferred embodiment of the device is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction may be resorted to which fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed as new is as follows:
As a new article of manufacture, a trash receptacle holder comprising: a tubular vertical post of a substantial length to be erected in the ground, a removable cap threadedly mounted for adjustment on the upper end portion of said post, said cap having a centrally located opening in its top, a metallic shank slidable in the opening, a finger receiving ring integral with the upper end of said shank, a downwardly facing hook integral with one side portion of said ring, said hook rising tangentially from said ring and engageable over the top of a trash receptacle, a nut threaded on the lower end portion of the shank, a coil spring on the shank engaged with the nut and the cap for yieldingly engaging the hook with the receptacle, and a sealing washer on the shank interposed between the spring and the cap for sealing the opening against leakage around said shank.
