CLOSURE CAP SECURING DEVICE FOR CONTAINERS Filed July so, 1952 Patented Aug. 29, 1933 UNITED STATES 1,924,242 CLOSURE CAP SECURING DEVICE FOR CON- TAINEBS John W. Kaye, Luling, Tex.
.Application July 30, 1932. Serial No. 626,974
1 Claim.
The invention relates to means for holding the closure caps for containers relatively to the containers to prevent displacement thereof and to induce replacement of the cap on the container after discharging some of the contents thereof, and hasfor its principal object the provision of a device that is reasonable in cost of manufacture and that may be readily applied to containers and caps of various types.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a holding device for container caps made of flexible elastic material and including a loop to enclose the neck of the container, said loop being engageable by the edge of the cap and to perform the function of a gasket to seal the container when the cap is in position, the device including a strip extending from said loop and provided with means to engage the cap and permit removal and replacement from and to the container.
' The invention will be described in detail hereinafter and will be found illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a view in elevation of a container having a screw cap thereon with the cap securing device shown applied thereto,
Figure 2 is a similar view from another side of the container, Figure 3 is a fragmentary sectional view on an enlarged scale taken on a plane indicated by the line 3-3 of Figure 2 Figure 4 is a plan view of the securing device removed from the container and cap, and
Figure 51s a fragmentary view in elevation showing the securing device applied to a collapsible container.
In the drawing similar reference characters are used to designate corresponding parts in all the views.
The container selected for illustration of the invention is a small bottle or a vial 10 having a threaded neck 11 to receive a thread cap 12, 13 designating a flange on the neck below th threads.
The securing device comprises a strip 14 of rubber or other flexible and elastic material having on one of its terminals a circular loop 15 that is adapted to enclose the container neck and seat on the flange 13, said loop furnishing means for securing the strip 14 to the container neck and also provides a gasket between the edges of the cap 12 and the flange 13 to seal the container when the cap is in position. The other terminal of the strip 14 is provided with an opening 16 to receive the shank 17 of a button 18 the neck, the material of the strip being stretchthat may be secured to the cap 12 as shown, or made integral therewith, the material of the strip being stretchable for attaching the strip to the button shank by stretching it over the head 18. As shown in the drawing the head 18 is of 6 acorn or conical shape to provide for ready application of the strip to the button, the pointed outer portion lending itself to spreading the material of the strip by entering the opening 16 provided for this purpose.
In Figure 5 is shown the application of the securing device to a collapsible container for holding toothpastes, toilet creams and the like and designated 20, the elasticity of the material of thedevice permitting stretching the loop 15 to securely engage and slightly compress the container as indicated at 21. The cap 22 in this figure is provided with a button having a conical head 23 and a stem or shank 24 to engage in the opening 16 in the strip 14.
In use it will be apparent that when the cap is removed for decanting the contents of the container it will be held relatively to the container to prevent displacement, and to encourage replacing the cap on the container so as to prevent loss of the cap.
It will be apparent that the invention may be applied to containers of other types than those shown in the drawing, and to other forms of caps than disclosed, and I therefore do not limit myself 'to the specific structure as disclosed except where specifically claimed hereinafter.
What is claimed is:--
A closure cap securing device, comprising in combination with a container having a neck, a circumferential flange on said neck, a closure cap for application to said neck, a conical-shaped button on said cap, a strip of flexible and compressible material having a loop on one terminal seated on said flange and surrounding the neck, said loop providing, a gasket for the cover to seal the container, and the strip provided with an opening adjacent to its other terminal to receive said buton and hold the cap when removed from able to pass over the head of the button.
