Description

C. H. FINK BQTTLE OPENER March 3, 1936.
Filed June 3, 1955 Attorney Patented Mar. 3, 1936 u STATES 2 Claims.
This invention relates to bottle openers and consists in the provision of such an opener adapted for use as an attachment to the steering post of an automobile.
Briefly, the invention consists in the provision of a novelty bottle opener adapted for use as an advertising medium.
The invention together with its objects and advantages will be best understood from a study of the accompanying description taken in connection with the drawing wherein:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view illustrating the application of the invention to the steering post of an automobile.
Figure 2 is a view taken at right angles to Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a detail view taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawing by reference numerals it will be seen that the bottle opener comprises a bottle opener per se including a shank 5 equipped at one end with a suitable integral hook or operating head 6. On one face of the shank, in the preferred embodiment, the same is provided with suitable lugs'l having portions overlying and spaced relative to the shank 5.
For attaching the-shank to the steering post 8 of an automobile, there is provided what may be termed an attaching sleeve 9 formed of metal or other suitable material. Sleeve 9 is of substantially cylindrical form beingopen at one side and provided at its open side with cars In integral with the edges of the sleeve and apertured to accommodate a vbolt II and wing nut l2 through the medium of which the sleeve 9 is drawn tight about the post 8. Diametrically opposite the open side thereof the sleeve 9 is suitably developed or formed to provide an internal longitudinally extending channel IS in which fits the shank 5 of the bottle opener so that as shown, the shank is confined between the sleeve 9 and the post 8. The wall of the channel I3 is provided with openings l4 through which the lugs l are passed to engage, in a positive manner the 5 bottle opener S with the sleeve 9 to retain the. bottle opener against casual longitudinal movement lengthwise of the steering post 8.
The sleeve 9 on its outer face is provided with one or more roughened areas l5 providing a 10 match scratching surface and with suitable areas 16 adapted to have advertising indicia placed thereon in any suitable manner.
It will thus be seen that with the bottle opener applied to the post 8 as shown, the cap of a botl5 tle may be readily engaged with the hooked head 6 of the opener so that upon proper manipulation of the bottle the cap may be removed therefrom. Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is: 20
1. A bottle opener comprising a shank having a bottle cap engaging head at one end thereof, a sleeve for securing the shank to a support, said sleeve being provided with an internal longitudinal channel and spaced openings in the bottom 25 of said channel, and said shankfltting within said channel and having lugs on one side thereof engaging in said openings.
2. An attachment for vehicular steering posts comprising a sleeve adapted to embrace the steer- 30 ing post, said sleeve also having a portion thereof longitudinally of the sleeve bulged radially outwardiy, a bottle opener having a shank extending lengthwise of the sleeve internally thereof, and engaged in the bulge of the sleeve, said sleeve 3 having spaced apertures in the bulged portion thereof, and said shank having hook-shaped lugs engaging said openings.
