Description

Dec. 1, 1925.
C. E. STITCHER ANCHOR Fild July 17. 1925 CkarZesEJZa'Zcker ATTORNEY WITNBS:
Patented Dec. 1, 1925.
PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES E. STITCHER, OF BAY CITY, MICHIGAN.
ANCHOR.
Application filed. July 17, 1925.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES E. STITCH- nn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bay City, in the county of Bay and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Anchors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in anchors particularly adapted for anchoring fishing nets, an object being to provide an anchor for this purpose whose construction will insure proper holding means for nets irrespective of the character of the bottom, the anchor taking proper hold in bottoms composed of hard clay, hard pan, or hard bottoms of other character.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings Figure l is a perspective view of an anchor constructed. in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a side view of the same.
Referring to the drawings in detail wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates the shank of the anchor which is provided at one end with an eye 11 to permit of convenient attachment to a chain or cable, while extending transversely of the shank adjacent the eye is a stock 12.
The opposite end of the shank 10 carries an arm 13 which is disposed in the same longitudinal plane as the shank and extends therefrom and is shaped so as to insure Serial No. 44,339.
positive holding upon any type of bottom. For this purpose, the arm is longitudinallv curved in a direction toward the stock and is connected to the shank by a curved crown 14 having a relatively short radius. The inner face of the arm 18 is transverselv flat as indicated at 15 while the outer face is transversely curved and the outer end of said arm terminates in a gradually tapering peak or bill 16.
By reference to the drawing it will be seen that the relative arrangement and positions of the stock and arm are such to insure contact of the beak or bill with the bottom, while the angular position of the arm 13, as well as its curvature and cross sectional shape insures penetrating means for hard or other types of bottoms;
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention what is claimed is:
An anchor comprising a shank, a stock extending transversely at one end thereof, an arm extending from the opposite end of the shank in the same longitudinal plane and at an acute angle with respect to said shank, said arm also having a transversely flat inner face and a transversely rounded outer face and a gradually tapering sharp bill at the outer end of the arm. 7
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
CHARLES E. STITCHER.
