Description
Jan. 29, 1935. l. GoNYK SHUTLE GASING FOR SEWING MACHINES Filed June 19. 1933 m/ZV, l
[fyi 2;
Patented Jan. 29, 1935 4 UNITED STATES SHUTTLE CASING FOR SEWING MACHINES Ignatz Gonyk, Vienna., Austria ApplicationJune 19, 1933, Serial No. 676,556 In Austria June V25, 1932 3 Claims.
The invention relates to a further development of the shuttle for sewing machines disclosed in my co-pending application led June 8th, 1932, Ser. No. 616,111 and has for its object to provide for asready removal of the cover. In order to make the cover readily removable resilient elements are provided on the same or on the shuttle casing, which on loosening the fastening screws lift the cover off the casing automatically.
10 In a preferred constructional form helical springs are threaded on the fastening screws which springs tend to push outwards the cover of the shuttle casing.
In the annexed drawing an embodiment of the l5 subject matter of the invention is illustrated by way of example. Fig. 1 is a plan View of the bridge and the shuttle casing with the cover. Fig. 2 is a side elevation partly in section. Fig. 3 is a rear elevation partly in section, the cover being in the closed position. Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 3, the cover being lifted olf the shuttle casing.
A bridge piece 1, is secured to the workingplate of a sewing machine and has a recess 16 formed in it for the reception of an annular shuttle casing 17. In the bottom of the recess at its center there is a bearing 2 for a shuttle-driving shaft (not shown). n
The shuttle casing 17 is provided with a radial notch 18 in its interior periphery for the needle of the sewing machine. On top of the shuttle casing there is a at annular cover 24 whose inner periphery is beveled toward the' shuttle casing. In the cover there are provided in diametrically opposed positions counter sunk screw holes for the reception of screws 26 which pass also through registering apertures 34 in the shuttle casing but these latter apertures are somewhat larger than the screws so that helical springs 35 may be accommodated therein surrounding the shank of the screws. 'Ihe screws are threaded into the bridge 1 in position so that the axis of the bearing 2 will be coaxial with the shuttle casing 17 and cover 24.
To readily secure the cover 24 in position the heads of the screws 26 are cut away along parallel chords and the bottoms of the screw apertures in the cover' 24 are slotted as at 28 so that they may permit the withdrawal of the cover over the screw heads when they are parallel to the slots. Correspondingly when the screw heads are turned 90 the cover 24 will be locked on the casing 17. The springs 35 will force the'cover 24 up when the screw heads and slots 28 are the fastening screws 26 are not screwed into the 6 shuttle casing 17 but into the bridge 1. vAt the points of the shuttle casing 17 where the fastening screws 26 pass therethrough, the shuttle casing is provided with bores 34 suciently large to accommodate not only the fastening screws 26 but also the helical springs 35 threaded on these screws. In the closed position of the cover the helical springs 35 are compressed, as shown in Fig. 3. If now the fastening screws are turned through angles of from their positions shown in Figs. l and 3 in the direction for loosening the same, the heads of the screws can pass through the slots of the cover and then the helical springs 35 force the .cover 24 upwards and the cover. may be readily removed, as will be seen from Fig. 4.
What I claim is:
1. In a sewing machine a shuttle casing, a cover for said shuttle casing, at least two fastening screws connecting the cover to the casing, and resilient means interposed between the casing and the said cover whereby the cover is lifted off the casingv whenever the fastening screws are turned in a predetermined direction for loosening the same, said shuttle casing being provided with a corresponding number of recesses the bottom part of such recesses corresponding. in size and kshape to the size and shape ofthe heads of the screws and the top part of the said recesses being of a diameter greater than the greatest diameter of the said heads.
2. In a sewing machine a shuttle casing, acover for said shuttle casing, at least two fastening screws connecting the cover to the casing, and resilient means interposed between the casing and the said cover whereby the cover is lifted o the casing whenever the fastening screws are turned in a predetermined direction for loosening the same, said shuttle casing being provided with a corresponding number of recesses the bottom part of said recesses corresponding in size and shape to the size and shape of the headsV of the screws and the top part of the said recesses being of a diameter greater than the greatest diameter of the said heads, said' resilient means comprising helical springs threaded on said fastening screws and bearing at one end against said shuttle casing and at the other against said cover.
3. In a sewing machine a shuttle casing, Aa cover for such shuttle casing, at least two fastening screws connecting the cover to the casing, and resilient means interposed between the casing and the said cover whereby the cover is lifted off the casing whenever the fastening screws are turned in a predetermined direction` for loosening the same, said shuttle casing being provided with a corresponding number of recesses the bottom part of such recesses corresponding in size and shape to thesize andshapev ofthe heads of the screws and the top part of the said recesses being of a diameter greater than the greatest diameter of the said heads, said resilient means comprising helical springs threaded on said fastening screws and bearing at one end against said shuttle casing and at the other end against said cover, and being enclosed in bores in said shuttle casing.
