Description

J. BOTT July 19, 1932.
BADGE Filed July 25, 1931 i amado/o dsep? .Patented July 19, 1932 nNrrED STATES PATENT OFFICE JOSEPH BOTT, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO BASTIAN BROTHERS COM- PANY, OF ROCHESTER, NEVI YORK, A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK BADGE Application filed July 25, 1931.
The invention relates to the type of holders for displaying matter required to be eX- hibited and containing a license or permit authorizing one to hunt or fish.
The invention provides a badge having a receptacle formed between front and back plates adapted to receive a license, permit or other article required to be exhibited to an oiiicer on demand, and which at all times la displays matter indicative of authority, and which guards against loss of the contents of the receptacle while at the same time admitting of ready removal of said contents for inspection when required.
For a full understanding of the invention and the merits thereof, reference is to be had to the drawing hereto attached, and the subjoined description, in which corresponding parts are designated in the several views of the drawing and referred to in the specilication by like reference characters.
ln the drawing Figure 1 is a front view of badge illustrative of an embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a rear view of the badge.
3 is an enlarged cross sectional view on the line 3--3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a similar sectional view on the line 4 4 of Fig. 2.
rl"he badge comprises a front plate 1 and a rear plate 2 and is preferably of circular outline. These plates are formed at their outer marginal edges with flanges which interlock as indicated at 3, to retain the parts in assembled relation. The plates l and 2 are spaced apart intermediate their marginal interlockedges, as indicated at l, whereby to provide a receptacle for holding the license, permit or other article to be retained in convenient position to be exhibited to an oiiicer or ether person upon demand. A catch pin is applied to the badge to provide means for attaching the same to the clothing` of the hunter or fisherman. This catch pin is formed from single lengthof wire bent to provide a front portion 5, a back portion 6, a catch 7, and a spring coil 8. The back portion 6 is reversely bent, as indicated most clearly in Fig. 2 of the drawing, and is coniined between the back plate 2 and a filler 9. The filler 9 Serial No. 553,177.
consists of a block or piece -of compressed paper or similar material, which is clamped between the front and back plates comprising the badge. Portionsof the baci; plate are partly cut therefrom and pressed inwardly "55 to form ears lO-which engage an edger ofthe filler 9 to prevent displacement thereof. The front portion 5 of the catch pin is pointed to readily penetrate the fabric and constitutes the engaging element whereby the badge isf-l adapted-to be attached to the clothing.
A slot 11 is formed in the back plate 2 and provides ready means of ingress and egress to and from the receptacle comprised between the front and back plates of the badge'.
he slot 11 curves intermediate its ends.4 A lip 12 is formed at one side ofthe slot 1 1 and is deflected towards the front plate 1 and di-` rects the license or other article when introducing the same into `the receptacle or compartment formed'between the two plates for the reception thereof. A guar-d1?) is disposed at the base of the lip 12 and consists of a tongue which is partly out from the plate 2 and arranged to overhang the lip 12 and enf gage the license 14 or other paper or article when placed in the receptacle and prevent vcasual displacement or loss of the article, as
will be readily comprehended. The article receivingcompartment or receptacle is disposed at one side `of the filler 9 and the entrance is at one end thereof. Portions 15 are pressed outwardly from the back plate 2 and define ribs 15 which stien and reinforce said plate as well -as providing.ornamentation.
It is observed that the outer surface of the front plate 1 is provided with insignia or other matter to be displayed. The license, permit or other article 11i is introduced into the receptacle or compartment l through'the '90 slot 11 and is prevented from accidental displacement and loss by means of the guard 13. The license or permit 14 may be printed upon a slip of paper which is conveniently folded so as to be introduced into the space of the badge. The lip 12 serves to give proper direction and deflect the permit or license when introducing the same into the compartment or receptacle.
What is claimed is:
1. A badge of the character specified, comprising spaced front and back plates including an article receiving compartment, one of the plates being provided With a slot for the' passagel of an article, a deilecting lip at one side of the slot, and a guard adjacent the base of the delecting lip to prevent casual displacement otlthe article contained Withiirthe receptacles.
2. A badge of the character speciied, comprising front and back plat-es spaced apart` to provide an article receiving compartment, one of the plates having a slot formed theren in to provide for introducing an article into the compartment, a lip at one side ofthe slot forming an integral part of the plate, and deflected towardsthe opposite plate, and a guard forming apart of the lip and plate and f adapted to engagethe article to prevent acc-i- Y dental displacement thereof from the compartment.v Y
3.' A badge of the character specified, com- `pris'irig'spaced front and back plates form ing. an articlereceiving compartment, a 'catch pin applied to a side portion of the back plate, a filler clamped between the plates and serving to confine the catch pin, the back plate having portions partly cut therefrom and pressed inwardly' to provide ears which engage and retain the filler in place, said back plate havingfa slot formed therein to provide an entrance tothe article receiving compartment, a lip at the outer side of the slot,
Iand a 'guard on the lip adapted to engage an articleintroduced into 'said compartment and prevent itscasual displacement therefrom 'from the receptacle.
41A badge comprising complemental rfront and backplates formed With interlocking marginal flanges Which space the plates to providean article receiving compartment therebetween, a catch pin applied to a side portion 'of the back plate, a filler clamped be- 'tvveen the plates and serving to confine and retain the catch pin in place, the back plate having portions partly cut therefrom and pressed inwardly to form ears'which engage and retain theiiller in place, said back plate being 'further provided' with a slot forming an entrance to the `article receiving compartment,"a deflecting lip at the outer side of the slot;r anda guardgiorming apart 'of the deiiectingfflip .and adapted to engage an article introduced into saidv compartment and prevent f its f accidental displacement therefrom.
