Application July 27, 1934, Serial No. 737,256 3 Claims. (01. lo-1L5) My invention relates to badges in general and more particularly to a new, useful and ornamental badge designed for general badge use such as at conventions and meetings of various kinds of as- 5 sociations and organizations.

The main object is to provide a simple, inexpensive and novel badge for the purpose set forth.

In the accompanying drawing several forms of my device are illustrated all of which embody the same basic principle of construction, as hereinafter fully set forth, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which:-

Fig. 1 is a face view of a two-window type of my badgeframe or main holder in condition just previous to bending or folding three flaps thereof on three of its adjacent sides.

Fig. 2 is Fig. 1 showing the three flaps folded back and inwardly at the rear side of the holder.

Fig. 3 is a rear view of the type of badge illustrated in Fig. 1 and with a two-pin type of back tab, one pin to secure the badge to a garment and the other pin holding a ribbon.

Fig. 4 is an enlarged cross sectional view as on line 4-4 in Fig. 3.

Fig. 5 is a modification of Fig. l and Fig. 6 is a cross section as on line 6-6 in Fig. 5.

Fig.7 isa rear view of the badge shown in Fig. 6 folded or assembled and ready for use.

Fig. 8 is merely a picture of the badge complete with ribbon and attached to the lapel of a coat.

Referring to the drawing by reference letters, like letters being used in the various views to designate corresponding parts, A is a preferably rectangular main frame or plate, which in Figs. 1, 2 and 4 is provided with two parallel windows or apertures B and B2 of which B is shown just above B2. In the form of my device shown in Figs. 5-8 inclusive there is but one window B.

In most forms of my device said entire main plate A is made of light, pliable sheet metal and having a paper backing on its rear or inner side only.

A2 and A3 are respectively an upper and a lower integral extension of the corresponding sides of the frame or plate A, each adapted to be folded back as on lines 0 and parallel to the rear side of the main plate. A4 in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 designate a similar integral tab or flange at one end of the main plate and adapted likewise to be folded back and parallel to the rear side of the main plate. Thus is provided a holder as illustrated in Fig. 2 for a rectangular insert D of a size to be slipped between the flanges A2 and A3 and under flange A4. This insert is preferably of similar but heavier material than the main frame A and to hold it securely after being slipped into place it is provided with struckout tongues E spaced apart so as to contact the rear innermost- .edge parts of the flanges A2 and A3 and which may further be pressed downwardly upon said flanges for frictional engagement.

F in Figs. 4 and 8 designates a paper card or equivalent with a suitable writing surface, said card adapted to be retained between back plate D and the frame A, a large part of the writing surface being exposed in the window B or windows B and B2 as the case may be. On the exposed surface may be inscribed or printed any suitable or appropriate matter for example the name of a delegate, his home address and further designation or information. It is desirable and obvious that in most cases the exterior face of the badge be formed with any suitable or appropriate design, this pertaining mainly to the parts surrounding the window or windows. Where there is a considerable area adjacent a window, as area G above window B in Fig. 5, the same may be embossed, imprinted or in any other suitable manner with a design or informative matter on all or part of said area. Colors or various color combinations are also optional, with or without combination with any design or lettering desired on said display areas.

In the modification in Fig. 5 the main frame is formed with a longitudinal extension A5 to the left, of such size that it can be folded back as on line C2 toward the rear face of the main frame and parallel to the latter, after which the flanges A2 and A3 are folded upon the upper and lower parts of the folded extension (see Fig. '7). The paper area of tab A5 thus exposed in window B may be used for informative display without use of a card insert such as F.

In Figs. 3, 4, 5 and 7, H designates a pin device resembling a safety-pin and preferably removably retained in and adjacent to a pair of apertures J in the upper part of plate D, or in similar apertures in upper part of tab A5. This pin projects rearward from the badge and can be opened for securing the badge to a garment, or a lapel L as in Fig. 8. This pin is of course invisible when the badge is in place.

In Fig. 3, H2 designates a pin similar to pin H but located parallel to and below pin H. From the prong of this pin may be suspended ribbons R for additional decorative effect. B may also represent any other article desired to be exposed below the main badge. Other means equivalent to the fasteners H-H2 may be used.

In most instances it is preferred to use light sheet metal with paper backing, as stated, but in the larger types of my device, as shown in Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 4, where inserts are used for display of informative matter in the windows, it is optional to use a metal frame only.

For any of my badges which may be used more than ordinarily a slip of transparent material (not shown) such as celluloid may be inserted to protect the otherwise exposed written or printed matter. 7

The use of my badge and its construction have been fully disclosed simultaneously. Preferred embodiments are illustrated in the accompanying drawing. Modifications within the scope of the claims may be made without departing from the scope and spirit of the invention.

I claim:

1. A badge comprising a single, elongated quadrangular sheet of pliable material with a facing of paper or the like on one side only, said sheet adapted to be folded upon itself, paper side inwardly, on a central transverse line to provide front and rear registering panels, one of said panels formed with flange extensions at the top and bottom edges and arranged to be folded over and upon the adjacent edge portions of the other panel, said front panel provided with a Window aperture exposing a predetermined area of the papered face of the rear panel when the two panels are folded as described, mounting means for the badge comprising a pin removably retained in the rear panel, said exposed area of the rear panel adapted to bear suitable informative matter.

A badge comprising a single integral piece of fiat material of elongated quadrangular form adapted to be doubled upon itself on a transverse line to form two registering panels, means for interlocking said panels comprising flange extensions on opposite edge parts of one panel and adapted to be bent over the adjacent edge parts of the other panel one of said panels comprising the front and formed with a window aperture, the other panel comprising the rear section and provided with a pair of perforations positioned in ofl'set relation to said window, a safety pin re- ,movably retained in said pair of apertures with its prong and catch parts exposed exteriorly of the rear panel.

3, A badge comprising a single integral piece of fiat metal with a facing of paper or the like on one side, said piece originally of elongated quadrangular form and adapted to be doubled on a transverse line toform two registering panels, metal side outwardly, means for interlocking said panels at opposite edge parts, one of said panels comprising an ornamental front formed with'a window aperture, the other panel comprising the rear section with its papered side exposed in the Window aperture and provided with a pair of perforations in oil-set relation to the said Window, a safety pin removably retained in said pair of apertures with its prong and prong catch parts'exposed exteriorly of the rear panel, as shown and described.
