Description

April 26, 1932. F. w. LAENCHER PRICE TAG Filed Nov. 6, 1950 INVENTOR fieoez/b/ W Zoe/fiber BY n's ATTORNEY Patented Apr. 26, 1932 UNITED STATES, PA-TENTOFFICE;
FREDERICK W. LAENCHER, F ELMHURST, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO A. KIMYBALL COM- PANY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y A. CORPORATION OF NEW YORK v PRICE TAG Original application filed March 13, 1929, Serial No. 346,538. Divided and this application filed November 6, 1930.
This invention relates to price tags, and has for an object the provision of improvements in this art.
The nature and object of the invention will be best understood by reference to a specific embodiment of the invention which will now be described, this embodiment being also illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in
which, the figure is a perspective view of a gang strip of price tags embodying the invention.
This application is filedas a division of Laencher application, Serial No. 346,538, filed March 13, 1929, entitled Tickets and apparalfij tus for printing them. The said application describes a machine for printing and "severing individual tags from a gang strip such as illustrated herein, and as explained in the said application, the said strip cooperates 2 functionally with the feed mechanism in order to secure proper intermittent feed of individual tag lengths. The said gang strip may also cooperate functionally with the feed mechanism of other types of printing and severing machines, such, for example, as that illustrated in Laencher application, Serial N 0. 451,222, filed May 10, 1930, entitled Printing apparatus. 7
The said gang tag strip, designated generally by numeral 1, is formed from a suitable length of paper or cardboard having any desired dimensions, and, if desired, individual tag lengths 2 may be indicated by'rounded portions 3, which, when individual tags are severed from the strip as contemplated in the two machines previously referred to, provides neatly rounded corners for the individual tags.
The individual tickets ordinarily'require some attaching or securing means for fastening to the goods to be marked, staples or strings being commonly used. In the preferred embodiment illustrated, staples 4 are securedjto the individual tags closely adjasaid staples extending approximately per pendicular to the plane of the tickets and being arranged in a line parallel to the edge of cent the edges thereof, the prongs 5 of the Serial No. 493,731.
which extend inwardly beyond the line of the staples.
In order that the said strips may be fed edge, thus placing the slits away from the staples or other attaching means so as to prevent interference by such attaching means with the feeding mechanisms of the previously referred to printing and severing machinesi As will be understood, the said slits 6 meet the apex of the adjacent rounded corners as illustrated in the drawing. 7
It will be understood that the invention may be variously modified and embodied within the scope of the subjoined claims.
I claim as my invention:
l. A gang price tag strip comprising a series of tags provided with attaching means at one edge and'partially severed from each other by slits made from the other edge, and extending inwardly beyond the medial line of the strip to provide abutmentsfor engagement by feedingmechanism.
2. An article of manufacture comprising a strip divided into equal tag widths by aligned cusps along the opposite edges of the strip, an attaching device secured to each tag, the said devices having prongs arranged in alignment along one edge of the strip, and slits between each two tags at the other edge.
3. A price tag strip comprising a series of tags provided with attaching staples at one edge and partially severed from each other by slits made at a distance back of the staple bearing edge and extending .to the other edge of the strip, uncut material being left between the slit and the staple bearing edge.
4:. An article of manufacture compris-.
ing astrip divided into equaltag lengths by aligned cusps along the opposite edges of the strip, attaching staples along'oneedge of the strip'having aligned prongs, said cusps along the stapled edge of the strip extending inwardly beyond the line of prongs, and slits between the tags extending inwardly from the points of the cusps along the unstapled edge toward the points of the cusps along the stapled edge of the tag, said slits providing abutments for engagement by feeding mechanism.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification this 5th day of November, 1930.
FREDERICK W. LAENCHER."
