Description

Nov. 19, 1929. 5. SENATE 1,736,724
LIQUID CONTAINING COMBINATION COMPACT Filed Dec. 15, 1928 BERNARD G. SETVATE Patented Nov. 19, 1929 UNITED STATES BERNARD G. SETVATE, F INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA LIQUID CONTAINING COMBINATION COMPACT Application filed December 15, 1928.
This invention relates to compacts of that nature adapted primarily for containing a variety of cosmetics, such as powders, face lotions, perfumes and the like, and one feature of the invention is the provision of separated compartments for powder, rouge and the like commodities, with appropriate closures therefor.
A further feature of the invention, in con- ],0 junction with the other compartments, is a compartment within the confines of the compact for receiving and retaining a face lotion or other liquids.
A further feature of the invention is the provision of a closure for the liquid compartment, which when turned to closed position, will rest substantially flush with the outer face of the compartment.
A further feature of the invention is the provision of a sealing means for the liquid compartmentclosure, thus insuring against leakage of the liquid around the closure.
Other objects and advantages will be hereinafter more fully set forth and pointed out in the accompanying specification.
In the accompanying drawing which is made a part of this application, the
Figure is an enlarged central sectional View thru the compact, said compact being in open position with the closures for the several compartments in open position.
Referring to the drawing, the numerals 1 and 2 indicate the respective sections of the compact case and 3 indicates a hinge for securing the two sections of the case together.
The sections 1 and 2 are shaped to form interior recesses over which are placed walls 4 and 5, respectively, each wall being set in from the inner edges of the sections 1 and 2 to provide a housing space for a mirror 6, said mirror being of any suitable material, preferably of highly polished metal, the mirror being secured to the hinge 3, so that it may be swung back and forth to uncover one or the other of the walls 4 or 5.
Formed thru the wall 4, is a compartment 7, adapted primarily for containing face powder or the like, said compartment having a hinged cover 8 forming a closure therefor, which is inset a suflicien't distance to allow Serial No. 326,163.
the mirror to nest thereover without contacting therewith.
The wall 5 forms a compartment 9 in the section 2, into which may be introduced any suitable form of liquid, such as a face lotion, perfume or the like, an opening 10 being formed thru the wall 5, thru which the liquid may be introduced or removed, an inwardly extending, threaded collar 11 being placed around the opening 10, into. which takes a threaded closure or plug 12, the outer edge of which is provided with a flange 13, which, when the plug is turned home within the collar, will rest flush against the outer face of the wall 5. The plug 12 is preferably a wing or rib 14, so that the plug may be easily and readily turned to open or closed position and to insure against leakage between the plug 12 and wall 5, an annular recess 15 is formed at the juncture of the collar 11 with the wall 5 and in said recess is placed a gasket 16, against which the flange l3 presses when the plug is turned into the collar.
An open compartment 17 is also provided in the wall 5, into which may be placed rouge or the like, the mirror forming a closure for the compartment 1 when the two sections 1 and 2 are in closed position. By arranging the several compartments in the manner shown, they are all excluded from view, when the sections of the compactvare closed, and by extending the threaded collar inwardly from the inner face of the wall 5, no parts thereof will project beyond the outer face of the wall'to which it isattached, thus providing a uniform unbroken contour for the outer surface of the compact and an article in which several different commodities may be stored without increasing the of the compact.
WVhile the description and drawings illustrate in. a general way certain instrumentalities which may be employed in carrying the invention into effect, it is evident that many modifications may be made in the Various details, without departing from the scope of the appended claims, it being understood that the invention is not restricted to the particular example herein described.
dimensions I claim as my invention:
1. In a compact, a pair of hinged sections; a wall in each section set inwardly from the open edges of the sections to form a housing 5 space, one of said walls forming a liquid receiving compartment in one of said sections; a threaded collar extending inwardly from the inner face of said last mentioned wall; a closure member adapted to enter said collar and have its outer face substantially flush with the outer face of said wall and a mirror adapted to nestin the aforesaid housing space, whereby the two sections may be closed without encountering any internal obstructions.
2. In a compact, a pair of sections hinged together; a wall closing the open ends of said sections, one of said walls forming a liquid receiving compartment; a threaded collar extending into said compartment from the inner face of the wall forming said compartment; a cover member for closing the opening in said collar; and a sealing means between said collar and cover.
3. In a compact, a pair of hollow sections hinged together; a wall in each section, set inwardly from the free edges of said sections to provide-a housing space; a mirror adapted to nest in said housing space; a condiment 39 receiving receptacle formed in one of said walls; a collar extending inwardly from the inner face of the other wall; a cover member for said collar adapted to rest substantially flush with the outer face of the last mentioned wall when in closed position, whereby no parts will'form a projection; and a sealing means between said collar and cover member. i
4. In a compact, a pair of hollow sections;
40 a wall closing each section, one of said walls having an opening there-thru; a collar surrounding said opening on the inner face of said wall, a cover member for said opening; a sealing means between said cover member "and collar; a compartment also formed in, the latter wall; a similar compartment formed in the wall of the other section; and a mirror hinged between said sections and adapted to rest substantially flush over either 59 of said walls.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand on this the 11th day of December,
A. D. 1928. y
' BERNARD Gr. SETVATE.
