My invention relates to a new and improved vanity case. j
One of the objects of my invention is to provide an improved vanity case intendedto hold face powder either in the loose form or in the-compact form. 1
Another object ofmy invention is to provide an improved vanity case which isadapted to contain powder either in the compact form or in the loose form and which is adapted to dispense this powder through a perforated member, such as a sieve or the like. r r
Anotherobject of my invention is to pro 5 vide a vanity case in which thepowder is con tained in a cup or other receptacle, said cup or other receptacle being movable in the case,
in order to facilitate the dispensing of the powder. 29 Another object of my invention is to pro vide a vanitycase in which the powder is'kept in continuous contact with a spring-pressed perforated member, the powder being dispensed through the perforations of said spring-pressed member.
Other objects of my invention will be set forth in the following description and drawings which illustrate a preferred embodiment of my invention,'it being understood that the above general statement of the objects of my invention is intended merely to generally explain the same and not to limit it in any manner.
Fig. l is a perspective view showing the improved device, it being understood that the cover of the device is omitted in order to more clearly illustrate the important parts of the device.
Fig. 2 is a central sectional view on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 shows the device in the open position.
Fig. 4 is a plan view of Fig. 3.
The device comprises a body portion 1 having a ring 9 turnably connected thereto by means of a hinge H. The vertical wall of the body 1 is provided with a latch 2 of any suitable type, in order to hold the ring 9 in the operative position shown in Fig. 2. Said vertical wall is also provided with a latch 2 for holding the cover of the device in positionw This cover may be of any suitable type, and it may be connected to the body of the vanity case in any suitable manner. This cover may have a mirror and a powder puff located therein, as iswell known. A plate 4 is 5 turnably connected to the bottom of the body member 1 by means of a pivot member5. The turnable plate 4is provided with a flange "(I and with inwardly bent lugs 7, in order to releasably hold a cup 3'in central position, so that the cup 3 turns in unison withthe plate 4. If desired, the cup 3 may be'provided with lugs which may abut or engage the lugs 7 in order to positively ensure the simultaneous turning movement of the cup 3 and of the plate 4. r V r As shown in Fig. 4, I prefer that the flange 7 should bea partial one. 'The'ring 9 is provided with a sieve 8 movably mounted therein, the sieve 8 being forced into the position shown in Fig 2, by means of the coil compression spring 10. The ring9 is provided with lugs'9a in order to keep said ring 9 and the sieve 8 assembled. u
The sieve 8 is provided with openings 8a formed by means of a suitable stamping process. Since the parts, including the sieve 8, are made of suitable metal, the operative ends of said perforations 8a, that is, the ends which are adjacent the 3am roughened, soithat said roughenedends serve to break or grind up the powder which is located in the cup 3. Said roughened ends also cause the powder to-pass through the said openings 8a, so that the powder enters the cup-shaped portion of said sieve 8.
- The plate 4 is provided with a manipulating 'arm 6'which extends through a slot 6 of the body 1'.
In order toutilize the device, the cover of i the case-is opened or removed, and the parts are moved into the position shown in F 3;' The cup 3 is either filled with loose powder or with a powder compact, and said cup'3 is then mounted upon the turnable plate 4, as shown in Fig. 2, so that the cup 3 and the plate 4 turn in unison. The ring 9 together with the sieve 8 is then moved into the position shown in Fig. 2. Since the cup 3 contains :a substantial amount. of powder, the
powder locatedin the cup sieve 8 is caused to move backward, so that the spring 10 is compressed.
If it is desired to dispense some of the powder, the handle 6 is moved to and fro so as to grind up some of the powder and to cause it to pass through the openings 8a into the cup-shaped portion of the sieve 8, in which a powder puff may be located, so that the powder puff takes up the powder.
Hence, the device can be operated when the cover of the case is either open or closed.
Heretofore in devices of this type, the powder has been placed in a container located upon the bottom of the box and this container was pressed against the sieve or other perforated member by means of a spring and washer. On the contrary, the spring utilized in my device causes the sieve to remain in yielding contact with the powder.
\Vhile I have shown a vanity case having a circular horizontal cross section, it is clear that the case could have any desired form. Likewise, I do not wish to limit myself to a turning movement of the plate 4, as this plate could have a sliding or any other movement so as to cause a relative movement between the cup 3 and the sieve 8.
Of course, the device could be operated to cause powder to pass through the sieve 8, and powder puff could be subsequently used to take up this powder. hen the sieve 8 is in operative position, it enters the cup 3 and the spring 10 continuously presses the sieve 8 against the powder. I do not wish to be limited to a removable cup 3, although this is the preferred construction.
I have shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, but it is clear that numerous changes and omissions can be made without departing from its spirit.
I claim:
1. A vanity case comprising a body portion having a turnable mount located therein, said mount having manipulating means extending through the said body member, areceptacle adapted to contain powder, said receptacle being removably located upon said mount so as to turn in unison therewith, and a perforated member adapted to be held in contact with the powder in said receptacle.
2. A vanity case comprising a receptacle portion adapted to contain powder, a perforated member, a spring abutting said perforated member and adapted to force said perforated member against the powder located within said receptacle portion, and means adapted to produce a relative movement between said receptacle portion and said perforated member.
3. A vanity case comprising a receptacle portion adapted to contain powder, a perforated member, a spring abutting said perforated member and adapted to force said perforated member against the powder located within said receptacle portion, and means adapted to produce a relative movement between said receptacle portion and said per forated member, said perforated member having openings provided with roughened ends adjacent said receptacle portion.
4. A vanity case comprising a body portion, a cup adapted to contain powder and to be removably located within said body portion, a sieve-mount hingedly connected to said body portion, a sieve movably located in said mount, a spring located in said mount and adapted to bear against said sieve, said sieve being shaped to enter said cup when it is moved to operative position.
5. A vanity case comprising a body portion having a plate turnably connected to its bottom wall, a cup adapted to contain powder, said plate having lugs adapted to centrally and releasably hold said cup, an annular sieve-mount hingedly connected to said body portion, a sieve movably located in said sieve-mount, and a spring located in said sieve-mount and adapted to bear against said sieve, said sieve being shaped to enter said cup when it is moved into operative position, said turnable plate having a member projecting through a slot in said body member.
6. A vanity case comprising a receptacle portion adapted to contain powder, an annular sieve-mount adjacent said receptacle portion, a sieve movably located in said sievemount, and an annular spring located in said sieve-mount and adapted to force said sieve against the powder in said receptacle portion, and means adapted to produce a relative movement between said receptacle portion and said sieve.
